Friend helped herself to Calpol while house-sitting

Got a message from my friend (call her L) who had been house-sitting and dog-sitting (for no pay) for her friend ('D') who has a lovely massive house while D was away. L told me that she felt unwell and helped herself to some Calpol in the house. However, she forgot to replace it and now D is going bananas at her saying it wasn't there when her son needed it. L doesn't know what to do... was she BU in using it in the first place? 🤔

Of course not. D is being ridiculous. Yes, L should have replaced it, but it's hardly the crime of the century.

Fancyseeingyouhere · 31/08/2019 17:46

L should tell D to stop being a dramallama and to pay for a dog sitter next time.

Countrylifeornot · 31/08/2019 17:46

If she used it all (and what adult actually uses Calpol!?) she should have at least told her friend. If a child takes ill and there's no Calpol in its often pretty hard to get to a shop if you're the only adult.

CallmeAngelina · 31/08/2019 17:47

Massive over-reaction on D's part.
Maybe she can stick her hand in her pocket and pay for "proper" house/dog-sitters next time. That will cost her a darn sight more than a bottle of calpol.

elvis86 · 31/08/2019 17:47

Of course she wasn't. It would have been polite to replace it, but seems she genuinely forgot.

And no matter how "nice" the other woman's house is, house and dog-sitting is a favour and one I wouldn't be repeating if I was your friend.

"Are you actually being serious?" would be my polite response upon her going crazy about it.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/08/2019 17:49

I’d not be dog sitting again for her. Calpol can be bought from any supermarket, chemist etc so hardly a hardship to buy a bottle again.

Bluntness100 · 31/08/2019 17:49

Blimey this can't be serious?

raspberryk · 31/08/2019 17:50

What adult uses Calpol? Hmm
But it's only calpol ffs, in exchange for a weeks dog sitting is not a big deal.
My brother cat sat a few weeks ago, he ate and drank us out of house and home as per expected. Because he was doing us a favour. He asked if I wanted it replaced and I of course declined. He then got pressies on top to say thanks.

BeanBag7 · 31/08/2019 17:51

What adult takes Calpol, you would have to drink half a bottle to see any effect!

In any case, D is unreasonable. It's a £2 bottle of medicine and shes really over reacted.

Usernamqwerty · 31/08/2019 17:51

Completely agree that D is being ott!

I use Calpol. It's nicer than getting a paracetamol tablet stuck in your throat.

SleepWarrior · 31/08/2019 17:52

Freaking out is an over reaction, but taking children's medicine and not even telling parent is downright odd, you'd have to take quite a lot to get the right dose which makes it really unfair when you go to treat a poorly child in the night and find it empty. Unreasonableness all round!

AnyFucker · 31/08/2019 17:53

Call the cops !

Baguetteaboutit · 31/08/2019 17:54

Are you omitting important information, like D's child is prone to febrile convulsions with a temperature?

ATowelAndAPotato · 31/08/2019 17:54

I wouldn’t have a problem with someone using medicine, assuming that’s the only paracetamol based painkiller they had.

But I prob would be a bit annoyed if they didn’t tell me it was finished, and I found out at 3am when one of the DC was poorly and I wasn’t able to go out and get some more.

Not sure I’d “go bananas” though, that does seem a bit over dramatic!

FuckFacePlatapus · 31/08/2019 17:55

Tell her when she gets paid for the week of dog sitting, she will then replace the Calpol.

HeffaLump1 · 31/08/2019 17:55

Why didnt she just go and get some instead of contacting you about it? Pop to shop, pay, drop off. Job done

elvis86 · 31/08/2019 17:55

People saying it's reasonable for her to go mad about the calpol! Grin

OMG I love that there's always some loon here to argue the (blatantly) unreasonable party's corner!

Divebar · 31/08/2019 17:56

Was there no other pain relief available other than Calpol? ( If so I find that a bit weird ) If your child is unwell and running a temperature and you discovered you had no pain relief it would be bloody annoying but I certainly wouldn’t berate the person doing me the favour. I would also find it a bit weird that they wouldn’t have sachets of Calpol in a first aid kit that they took away on holiday with them. Do people not do that as a matter of course for any holiday?

Tigerwhocamefortea · 31/08/2019 17:56

I would be fine with a friend using it but I would have been annoyed in the middle of the night with a poorly child if I was expecting to have some.

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/08/2019 17:57

I dont know. I wouldn't kick off at my friend for it, especially after doing me a favour.

But I might be a bit what the fuck, if it was 2 in the morning and I went to get some.

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/08/2019 17:59

I wouldn't say she was BU using it, but as Calpol is used for children I would think to replace it before shes home. I've been there in the middle of the night with a screaming baby. But I still wouldn't have said anything to my friend about using it so she is BU to kick off.

Passthecherrycoke · 31/08/2019 17:59

Erm how much calpol would you have to drink to get an adult dose of paracetemol? Like half a bottle? OP your friend is a Wally, I know that

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/08/2019 18:01

Assuming there was no paracetamol etc in the house I dont understand the issue but she should've replaced it asap or at least told D she had used it.

I'd be pissed off if my child was sick and the calpol I thought was in the cupboard had gone.

Baguetteaboutit · 31/08/2019 18:01

It's bad enough when you have to give it to an older child and 4 spoons later you're wondering when they can get the 12p paracetamol like everyone else.
