So much love, babe, hun and xxxx on here lately.

I'm getting viper withdrawal.

Am I imagining it?

Thanks in advance x

The hunning doesn't bother me too much. What I have noticed is that the sense of humour has changed massively. It's turning into an irony-free zone with zero sense of humour.

I posted about one of the mini royals reminding me of Harry Enfield every time I saw a photo in the press. I've no idea what happened on the thread, but it was taken down as 'not being in the spirit of..' very soon. My reason for posting was that it genuinely made me chortle each time I saw a pic. It was not intended meanly, just gently funny. An awful lot of people, it seems, couldn't see the humour in it and just thought it was "mean to a poor ickle baby". My first child looked like an angry old man crossed with a chimp. I was quite clear about this even though I love him to bits. Doesn't mean I, or others, couldn't affectionately josh his appearance.

It's all a bit too po here these days. That's what makes it much less enjoyable for me

I don't know about "turning into" because I've not been here long enough.
But compared with a previous message board I've posted on I've found that often jokes/irony are misunderstood.

Unless you post: SmileSmileGrinGrinGrin😂😂🤣LOL

And also: THIS IS MEANT TO BE LIGHTHEARTED.

It can be quite tiring.
The jokes don't seem anything snide or nasty.

Just, well.... jokes.

multivac · 01/09/2019 12:48

I thought this was going to be a xenophobic thread as Huns= Germans in ww1. I am delighted to see I was wrong!

Yeah. Misogyny so much more palatable than xenophobia. Especially when expressed by women. And fun, too!

derxa · 01/09/2019 12:51

I also love that the 'everyone else' camp hasn't noticed or asked what on earth it means in the 'WoS'camp...! Grin

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2019 12:53

It’s not snobby to write great instead of Gr8 for heavens sake. Jesus wept.

I think if you took that from the PP's post, you totally missed the point of it.

The point was, people get snobby about such things as 'hubby' 'U' and 'Gr8', whilst being perfectly happy to type 'DC' 'DD' 'DH' etc.

They're all just used to save time.

hunsontherun · 01/09/2019 13:12

Do people think their dog will be offended if they're not classed on Mumsnet as dear or darling?

IKR? but I couldn't take that chanse - not wif my snookysnugglebums 🐩

He has left 🐾 on my 💗 xxxx

hunsontherun · 01/09/2019 13:16

LMAO! I herd once that all newborns look like phill collins 😆

I disagree. If people wanted to save time they would write Ur, Gr8 etc as well as DH, DD etc.

hunsontherun · 01/09/2019 13:28

peachypetite · 01/09/2019 13:30

The recent baby names threads are full of xxx

thenightsky · 01/09/2019 13:52

Gr8 always makes me stop and think as my eyes read it as Gee Are Eight. It slows down my reading, rather than speeding it up.

*disclaimer - I'm really old.

NerrSnerr · 01/09/2019 13:57

DN is a weird one because no-one knows whether it means niece or nephew and 'DF' is also confusing as it can mean either 'father' or 'friend'.

DF can also mean fiancé.

NoSauce · 01/09/2019 14:06

It’s pretty easy to decipher what DF or DN means if you take on board the content of the thread!

Don't fight and speak lovely to everyone

That is excellent Grin I might get it tattooed in a really prominent area of my body, e.g face

I've just caught up with the thread, as have had a busy weekend.

Blimey, I think I need to respond to some PP. If you knew me, you would laugh at the accusations of snobbery, cliquery, middle-classery, and mean girl-ery. I could not be further away from these things rough as arseholes, me .

@hunsontherun your posts were SO good up thread, I nearly thought you were serious a couple of times Grin

And for the record, I agree that the DH, DD, DS acronyms are almost as bloody annoying as text speak but I use them to fit in but at least they make actually reading the post possible.

Apologies to all the German and Scottish MNers for obvious reasons.

Peace. Love. Harmony.

xxxxxx love you all

Whatever is wrong with being kind to other people?

SistersOfMerci · 01/09/2019 18:48

Bendy I'm a mummy of bastards too, little shits the lots of them.

And I'm not living my best life because I don't know what my best life would be. I'm living my life.

And I don't have a fabulous hubs, I have an ordinary one that can be an utter arsehole sometimes Grin

I'd be the crappiest of fucking crappy instagrammers.

I am middle class supposedly, I'm not snobby or cliquey and I'm most definitely not a mean girl.

But I still have an issue with the Hun invasion.

WeWantSweet · 01/09/2019 19:39

Perhaps the "hun-haters" should have a designated Viper Room to knock themselves out in.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/09/2019 19:53

At least we've still got Pedants' Corner.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/09/2019 20:04

Perhaps the "hun-haters" should have a designated Viper Room to knock themselves out in.

We did.

Bouffalant · 01/09/2019 22:25

We did. That's the point.

Unburnished · 01/09/2019 22:51

YANBU. It’s the emojis more than anything that really annoy me. I can forgive the odd ‘x’ at the end of a message (but not multiple xxx) and I dont mind the twee ‘mummytoarchie’ names but cant abide the ‘hunning’ and lolz or bubs and hubbie . it reminds me too much of Facebook.

Has anyone noticed the sharp rise in illiteracy too? There are an alarming number of posts along the lines of ‘an a told im like its me cuz dats how a do it an hes not gona stop us’

I miss @BertrandRussel’s clever contributions, @anyfucker’s arch wit and @WorraLiberty’s amusing comments.

MoobaaMoobaa · 01/09/2019 23:01

Unburnished oh stop with the sycophant stuff.

They are all still posing regularly. two of them on this thread Hmm
