Do people think their dog will be offended if they're not classed on Mumsnet as dear or darling?

Well, knowing cats as I do - I think they would be terminally offended and outraged by not receiving the appellation DCat

But dogs wouldn't give a shit as they cannot read as well as cats can

Wauden · 01/09/2019 00:53

We need 'dhun' now, innit. Like. LOL n hugs xoxoxo

NoSauce · 01/09/2019 05:31

I can't believe people who use "darling husband" or "dear husband" all over the place are mocking the word "hubby."

DH, DS etc etc is just quick and easy. Keeps things neat. People know what it means.

Hubby takes longer to write as does daughter, grandmother, brother, mother in law etc.

NerrSnerr · 01/09/2019 05:45

What about DDog then? That takes longer to write?

NoSauce · 01/09/2019 05:54

DDog is ridiculous. I have no idea why someone would put the D in front of dog.

But DDog isn’t on the acronym list, it’s just something that some posters do.

Lucafritz · 01/09/2019 06:32

I think the whole DH DD DS etc is weird anyway you wouldn't call them that in real life Confused why not just say my husband daughter son etc and usually the threads are moaning about something they've done wrong so there's no Dear or Darling about it Grin

Ticklemeelmo · 01/09/2019 07:03

I can't bring myself to use these acronyms, I find them as twee as the use of 'hun'.

CarolineKate · 01/09/2019 07:19

@bendylikebeckham yes it has. It went down for nearly a month whilst they updated. Then when it came back not many people returned!

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 01/09/2019 07:55

@CarolineKate

I think the people that did return to Netmums were thoroughly bewildered by its new look.

Nobody could work out how to find any of the current threads, so most gave up.

Bridget1983 · 01/09/2019 07:57

Yesss! This is a bunch of people (who if they’re the originals they claim to be) decided to use the abbreviations DH,DCs etc which I believe are to mean “darling husband” and they’re getting stroppy at the use of hubby 😂😂😂😂😂 (and yes these are not MN approved emojis 😏🙈😜)

birdsdestiny · 01/09/2019 08:02

What do you mean it went down for a month. That wouldn't happen here though would it? No MN for a month Shock

NoSauce · 01/09/2019 08:03

The thing is I wouldn’t refer to my husband as DH in real life. People do call their husbands, hubby or even worse hubs.

That is twee.

DarkNoise · 01/09/2019 08:07

I thought this was going to be a xenophobic thread as Huns= Germans in ww1. I am delighted to see I was wrong!

Bridget1983 · 01/09/2019 08:08

I wouldn’t refer to mine as any of those things consciously either but it is pretty funny that a group of people who created some massively twee abbreviations back in the late 90s or whenever it was are berating the way others refer to their partners and kids 🤷🏼‍♀️

BitOfFun · 01/09/2019 08:10

The DH etc stuff wasn't invented by mumsnet.

WalkofShame · 01/09/2019 08:10

I haven’t read the fucking thread (written in full because some people insist it’s read the full thread ... now I think that maybe they’re nethuns) but what happened to netmums?

WalkofShame · 01/09/2019 08:11

I normally would RTFT but all the huns, angles etc is making my hangover worse

WalkofShame · 01/09/2019 08:12

Oh, don’t worry. I just read it

Bridget1983 · 01/09/2019 08:15

I’m genuinely interested in where the DH etc abbreviations came from? Find it fascinating that a group of strong feminist women found these to be the best abbreviations they could come up with. . DC was maybe a 90s take on “mummy’s little angels” etc?
Also until a few days ago I genuinely thought STBXH was stupid bastard ex husband 😂 - I suppose in many cases that might be more appropriate

Sux2buthen · 01/09/2019 08:15

It's a public forum, luckily scrolling and the hide function exist so both can be utilised

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 01/09/2019 08:21

I like Ddog, Dcat, Dtortoise etc. It shows they are a much loved part of the family. Lovely and cosy and inclusive.

NoSauce · 01/09/2019 08:29

I had presumed the acronyms were created by MNHQ. I don’t know though. Although I’ve seen them used on other sites and various other places on the internet over the years.

bellainthemiddle · 01/09/2019 08:29

I totally thought that this was a racist thread by a German-hater! That must say something about the current climate...!

Hmm, "hun" doesn't bother me so much. My GP calls me "sweetie", which I think is something you shouldn't be allowed to say to anyone who isn't at least 10 years younger than yourself :D
