Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

Mr Brightside. I remember hearing that the very first time it was played on BBC Radio 1. I think it was on John Peel's show.

It takes me back to being 16/17 again and wishing I could do it all over and maybe make better decisions :(

Tested myself with John Denver's Annie's Song, then Calypso. In ridiculous pieces.

whizzpopbangalang · 28/08/2019 22:38

The song at the end of Bridget Jones when she marries Mr Darcey. Think it might be by Will Young. That song makes me ball my eyes out and I have no idea why!

Schwibble · 28/08/2019 22:38

Sweet Disposition - Temper Trap

Craftycorvid · 28/08/2019 22:38

An embarrassing one, this: ‘Fields of Gold’ Blush I well up every time I hear it!

Schwibble · 28/08/2019 22:39

Ten Million People Can't Be Wrong - Example

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/08/2019 22:42

Wichita lineman by glen Campbell

I agree with this one, the lyrics:

And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time

Get me every time.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/08/2019 22:43

@Craftycorvid is that the Sting song that goes on about fields of barley? If so, then I agree.

Sugarformyhoney · 28/08/2019 22:44

The piece of music River flows in you- I first heard a teen play it in the piano and it made me well up and still does now
Angel Sarah McLaughlin reminds me of a time in the past and makes me so sad I can’t even listen to it

Yoohoo16 · 28/08/2019 22:45

Ludovico Einaudi I giorni
and Kate Bush this woman’s work.

Craftycorvid · 28/08/2019 22:47

Daniel yep, that’s the one!

mintich · 28/08/2019 22:50

Off topic but I thought that the sea part of 'In the Night Garden' was just him sailing off to dreamland, not that hes literally lost at sea

mintich · 28/08/2019 22:51

The Verve - Sonnet

0blio · 28/08/2019 22:53

Laughing my head off at the thought of someone crying over 500 Miles!!

Hsve you never never seen Sunshine on Leith? Fabulous film with the most amazing music.

Hippopotas · 28/08/2019 22:55

Kiss from a Rose by Seal.

OctopusNow · 28/08/2019 22:57

Fifteen Years - The Levellers.

Reminds me so much of my ex. I wonder if he thinks of me if he hears it, "The girl from fifteen years ago has packed and gone away"
It does sum up our relationship. I'm proud I got out but sad for the wasted years and everything I lost.

aufaitaccompli · 28/08/2019 22:58

Oh I'm in floods here and I've not ventured near Youtube. Very emotional lately.

Wichita Lineman without a doubt
Miracle of Love - Eurythmics
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
Lovesong - The Cure
Sweet Disposition - Temper Trap
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Nights in White Satin - Moody Blues
Bridge Over Troubled Water - S&G
In Paradisum - Faure's Requiem

Shufflebumnessie · 28/08/2019 22:59

Little wonders by Rob Thomas. I love it but the moment I hear the opening notes I start welling up. It plays at the end of Disney's Meet the Robinson's (again, which I love) but can't watch the ending without crying.

StealthPolarBear · 28/08/2019 23:00

Born to run. Reminds me of my godmother, a huge Springsteen fan. All his other songs are fine. Just that one.

Booboooo · 28/08/2019 23:01

Heres another... Justin Timberlake lovestoned/I think she knows interlude. The ending bit. Very moving

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/08/2019 23:05

Maybe some of these are meant to be sad but whether they are or not they’re the ones that catch me with a lump in my throat.
Carrickfergus (Hothouse Flowers version particularly)
Zombie The Cranberries
The Whole of the Moon The Waterboys
Vincent Don McClean
First of May The Bee Gees (about Barry’s dog that had passed away Sad)
Man of the World Fleetwood Mac (especially ‘I just wish I’d never been born’ line sung so plaintively, my heart breaks for Peter Green)

LookDontTeuch · 28/08/2019 23:06

Paupers dough - raw, frustrating, uplifting

Onesailwait · 28/08/2019 23:08

Set you free by N Trance. Makes me cry happy tears. Takes me back to 1993, i was 19 working as a holiday rep in Malia. Such a fun and carefree time.

MotherofTerriers · 28/08/2019 23:08

Worried about Ray by the Hoosiers, perfectly cheery song bu5 makes me well up, no idea why

supermum85 · 28/08/2019 23:09
