Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

The Waterboys- Whole of the Moon

Had it at my best friends funeral....it summed up her entire outlook on life.

Feed the birds and stay awake.... from Mary Poppins. I used to sing these to my son to send him to sleep when he was little. Now at 7 neither those songs (nor I) are needed at bed time anymore 😭

Your Song. Ellie Golding's cover. It played as I gave birth to DS1. Make me well up every time.

Everybody's Talkin' by Nilsson. The lyrics are really quite sad and it has wistful strings!

Away in a Manger. DS was born shortly before Christmas and it had been a very physically tough and exhausting week and Christmas Day was one of our first days at home and I was right in the middle of the baby blues. Away in a Manger came on the radio as I was changing my newborn baby and the line "no crib for a bed" suddenly had me sobbing.

It quite often gets me all emotional still as it takes me back to that first muddled-up unChristmassy Christmas of being a complete wreck of a very new mother.

Christmas Day service in church normally gets me snivelling from the Carols, but then church gets me randomly emotional for no obvious reason anyway, normally at the music stage.

Blue Angels - Pras was feeling emotional anyway when I heard this, and it always reminds me of that time

This always reminds me of my American friend Elvis (obviously not his real name)

Merename · 31/08/2019 22:13

I did once (while heavily pregnant to be fair on me) have a good cry in the car to ‘there once was an ugly duckling’ Blush

Jesaminecollins · 31/08/2019 22:13

"We Close Our Eyes" by Go West.

Played it loads during my induction with DC3 (heard it on the radio whilst we were waiting for a place on delivery ward!! I'd never heard it before, loved it and made DP play it to me a lot during a 24h induction)

Baby ended up in Neonatal, then was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition which had changed all of our lives.

That song makes me weep.

This is an understated song by Will.i.am and Cheryl

mrssillysausage · 31/08/2019 23:00

That song towards the end of Moana where her grandma comes back as a spirit to give her a pep talk whilst she's on the boat, and Moana gets her mojo back finally singing "I am Moana!" Gets me every bloody time, I just think "you go girl!"
Time for bed I think lol x

Kiss Me by sixpence none the richer. It just always reminds me how easy and care free my life was before my teen pregnancy.

@karenbokaren Since I posted about Utah Saints in this thread the other day I've been rediscovering lots of old dance tracks I've not heard for years and Love Story immediately stuck out to me as one that belongs here. Especially the version with the "Finally" vocal. Did a bit of googling and there's some suggestion the lyrics of Finally are about dying and meeting God so no wonder it gets me emotional!

mintich · 01/09/2019 09:50

I've had that Utah Saints song in my head non stop since this thread!

Schwibble · 01/09/2019 20:01

Fergie - Glamourous. Memories of when the lyrics actually described my life at the time.

Schwibble · 01/09/2019 20:04

Mr Mister - Broken Wings

MJ - Liberian Girl

Madonna - Who's That Girl

bokkleorandoove · 01/09/2019 20:13

Daft Punk Da Funk - always reminded of the video which makes me sad

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Always loved that song then I found out it was written about a friend who had cancer (pink robots). Makes it even sadder now

Yutes · 01/09/2019 20:18
