Aibu to think I am the only person who didn't take out PPI?

With the deadline nearly here and the constant reminders from ads on TV and radio, I feel a slight panic rising that I actually did have it and I'm missing out on thousands. We don't believe we had PPI but made an enquiry as a friend said the same and got some money back but we were told we had no claim. Everyone I know has had some money back. Never had car finance, or loans only mortgage and credit card bit no fees to policies attached. Are there others like us out there ? Have I missed something?

I have a feeling it might have been added to my first car finance back in 2005 but I used an online company to check for me and it came back saying they couldn’t find any record of my account and needed more information

I left it at that as the account was closed 10 years ago and I’ve moved 4 times since so have no details

HearMeSnore · 28/08/2019 23:19

MissDew the same thing happened to me. When I got my first mortgage I was mis-sold PPI. I was much too naive to suspect skullduggery and assumed it was a necessary expense that just comes with a mortgage, like interest payments. A few months later I cancelled the plans and disposed of all the paperwork. Now, of course, the bank deny that I ever had insurance and I can't prove it.
It wouldn't have been much. But I'm still annoyed Angry

Bed I found a form online for Santander for checking for PPI. I don't know if they have a form for complaints too? Being that they're not accepting the check one as a complaint but apparently if the the check comes back with PPI you have so many weeks from the date of their response to claim (was on mse website today under emergency ppi toolkit) and that's different from tomorrow night deadline is how I read it. Hope that helps.

katewhinesalot · 28/08/2019 23:20

We tried checking too just in case. But no we were right. Nothing.

Speakercube · 28/08/2019 23:25

Trouble is banks only keep their paperwork for so long and how many people hang on to really old paperwork? Bet more will now as you never know what might come up! First it was endowment mortgages then PPI....

TokyoSushi · 28/08/2019 23:27

We got around £600 a few years ago, we went to Center Parcs with the money!

Speakercube · 28/08/2019 23:30

I started a thread about Scottish Life and PPI this morning hoping someone might have had some luck with them(mortgage profit builder plan) they said ScotLife never offered it but I can see life assurance mentioned on the paperwork! Has anyone on this thread been successful with them? Wondering whether to go to Ombudsman with it?

AndWhatNext · 28/08/2019 23:34

I didn't... xp got a few grand back on his credit card so I went back and made some claims.
Each organisation came back and gave me details and had no claims due to me.
Once credit card even said that I did take out PPI, but cancelled within the cooling off period... which wasn't a massive surprise.

I strong encouraged my sister to do it and she got back enough to go on holiday, a new boiler and a little left over!!

If in doubt check. Yourself. Don't use a claims company like xp, where they took a hefty percentage of the claim.

Speakercube · 28/08/2019 23:35

I mean Scottish life said they'd never offered it( when I rang them under Royal London umbrella)

BEDinhalfanhour · 28/08/2019 23:36

Thank you
I can't get the month of birth to drop down on Santanders form.

I have tried it on my phone & kindle.

BEDinhalfanhour · 28/08/2019 23:38

If anyone wants to do it, each form takes 2 mins. So dont be put off.

Except Santanders Hmm

I cant believe I had so many c.cards & loans.

Cahoot, Egg, Marbles, MBNA, A&L, Northern Rock etc etc etc Sad

Speakercube · 28/08/2019 23:39

What about trying it on a pc/laptop. It worked on my laptop. Is there anyone elses u can use if you don't have one? That's so bloody frustrating isn't it? I had to play about with the last page on mine.

BEDinhalfanhour · 28/08/2019 23:41

I will ask if I can use the P.C at work,

Im sure they owe me.

The worrying part is joint claims with a horrible Ex, I can't deal with the stress/contact

Frustratedmummy79 · 28/08/2019 23:48

I was absolutely sure I had never taken out PPI but DH was recommended a PPI claim firm (he’d already claimed on everything he knew of). Turns out the bank had sneakily added PPI to a graduate loan (didn’t need it as I had a secure job) when I’d said no. I got £1.3k back!!! They found tiny bits more for DH from accounts he can’t remember having!

Speakercube · 28/08/2019 23:58

bed hey guess what? I filled out the complaints form on Sant (had filled out check only before) I couldn't do the year either but could do the rest so says I was born in 2019! So I left that date in and then in previous address box I added a note saying my dob is.... This was on the which site. Before I went on the sant site.

Speakercube · 29/08/2019 00:01

That's shitty bed but maybe they would have to do that and not you for legal/ document reasons iykwim?

UnfamousPoster · 29/08/2019 07:03

@Tippexy it was on a loan not a credit card and I paid it off before the first annual statement came around, hence why I only got £400!

Cookit · 29/08/2019 07:06

Not sure I know anyone who has claimed actually.. at least no one has mentioned it.

I’ve never had a store card or a loan so wouldn’t have had it.

BEDinhalfanhour · 29/08/2019 08:08

16 hours everyone!

BEDinhalfanhour · 29/08/2019 08:11

Cookit Its bank accounts, credit cards, sofa's, catalogues, car finance etc.

I think the biggest one is going to be mortgages.

PrimalLass · 29/08/2019 08:12

I got £35.

MrsCollinssettled · 29/08/2019 08:21

Santander's online forms are currently unavailable due to essential maintenance. Funny that...

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/08/2019 08:23

I was certain we’d never PAID any PPI. It was attached to the first ever credit card we had but as we always pay it off in full each month we’d never actually paid for PPI.

Last year we ended up saying “oh go on and check then” to a particularly persistent caller who was adamant that we had paid PPI. We both filled out all the paperwork. DH has a credit card that I also have a card for and over the years we have had various store cards to qualify for deals (but always pay off in full). Anyway.... results came back..... NO PPI FOR EITHER OF US...the company seemed almost angry about it....

AuntieStella · 29/08/2019 08:25

Posting to bump for anyone else.

I'm one of the rare ones who was never missold it. I have only ever had one qualifying product (mortgage) and I went through its PPI equivalent quite carefully, as I needed to select which level of cover I wanted (and I chose one which matched my then employment situation and had some critical illness cover).

I dare say I might get something if I claimed under the Previn rule (ie it was all so wrong no consumer could have made a good choice) but I was provided with information and did make a choice (rather than being sold a pre-set bundle), so I've decided not to do it.

Itsjustmee · 29/08/2019 08:26

Have you checked that you didn’t have a packaged bank account that you didn’t need
We never had ppi aa my Dh always refused as said it was a con
But we did have a bank account that had phone insurance holiday cover and rac cover
None of which we needed and we didn’t realise that we had
We got back just over £4000 using resolver
