To want to know exactly what LGBT teaching in schools will entail?

Toorahtoorahaye · 27/08/2019 22:59

There has been lots of attention around the push to teach LGBT issues in schools - Birmingham being the flash point with many parents protesting. AIBU to have doubts about what is going to be taught and to want to know which orgs will be providing the material and exactly what this material teaches?

It’s quite literally teaching that gay people exist.
That some men marry men and some wine marry women, and some families have 2 mums or 2 dads instead of one.
If you want to know exactly what your school will be teaching ask them .
The Birmingham furore is over the fact that those parents for religious reasons do NOT want their children to be taught this as being gay is not acceptable to them.

FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 08:05

Okbaby

Just report any post where you see this bigotry and MNHQ will delete it. No wishing required.

Sarahisthatyou · 29/08/2019 08:06

And of course this thread descends immediately into homophobia and trans bashing. FFs. What IS wrong with Mumsnet.

FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 08:08

Again, report the posts where you see this happening and MNHQ will delete them.

My child is at at Stonewall Champion School. The material is regressive, sexist and homophobic.

I would be extremely concerned if Mermaids were delivering material, like the OP said and she'd have every right to challenge that.

FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 08:25

Hands

My local NHS hospital trust is a Stonewall Champion.

After contacting them to find out if they had a statement about this and what it would mean for patient care, then waiting six weeks for a response, no-one in the CEO’s office could tell me which rights they felt trans people didn’t already have that necessitated them getting Stonewall in to deliver training to their staff.

Wurzelsnewhead · 29/08/2019 08:27

Where is the homophobia?
I can see the concern about trans ideology which centres on the magical ability of people to change sex. A man claiming he’s a lesbian, a woman demanding she be accepted as a gay man; these are both outcomes of the trans ideology and both are homophobic as they deny same sex attraction.
What IS wrong with posters who demand this kind if debate is shut down? Why are posters ranting that trying to discuss these valid concerns is bigotry?

Moo5ele55 · 29/08/2019 08:28

Can we have some examples Handsoff

Bezalelle · 29/08/2019 08:35

Surely people can see that there's a different between teaching that gay relationships are fine and natural, and teaching that you can CHANGE SEX either through magical thinking or through mutilating/sterilising your body. SURELY.

FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 08:37

Have a read of the Allsorts toolkit for schools, Moo.

It’s the one recommended by Stonewall, while at the same time they write on their website that the Transgendertrend toolkit, with its CAMHS-style watchful waiting approach, is “dangerous” and contravenes equality law.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/08/2019 08:38

How is living as a man different from living as a woman?

You get listened to in meetings?

Seriously though, no-one ever wants to answer that one, do they.

Moo5ele55 · 29/08/2019 08:38

No I’d like some exact examples from the pp’s school. It was quite an accusation.

CassianAndor · 29/08/2019 08:38

Jesus fucking Christ, can people please stop bleating about denying trans people’s existence. It is so fucking tiresome, is blatantly not the case and is yet another way to shut down debate.
Just bore off with that one. Seems to me that a lot of trans people, or their parents, are shoving their existence down everyone’s throats. How come such a marginalised, existence-threatened group have managed to persuade so many that the law is not what it actually is? Bangin, the government website listing the protected characteristics is free for anyone to access. And when you’ll do you’ll see that ‘sex (including transgender)’ is not on that list. So I and others would, perfectly legitimately, like to know why organisations are listing the protected characteristics incorrectly.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/08/2019 08:41

Year 7s take a quiz asking for the figure for young trans people who have attempted suicide.

The figure quoted has been debunked by the NHS. Stonewall knows this.

The glossary it terms includes

Transsexual - This was used in the past as a more medical term (like homosexual)

Cisgender or Cis - someone whose gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned at birth

Intersex - a term used to describe a person who may have the biological of both sexes or whose biological attributes do not fit with societal assumptions about male and female

Homosexual - this might be considered a more medical term.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/08/2019 08:41

biological attributes

FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 08:44

Year 7s take a quiz asking for the figure for young trans people who have attempted suicide.

I have no words, hands.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/08/2019 08:46

Alongside the description of Transsexual (and as a further insult to transsexuals) they also add - This term is still used by some although many people prefer the term trans or transgender.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/08/2019 08:53

I know, Family

I expressed my concerns to the head. Stonewall's reputation in schools is based on the robust and commendable work they have previously done around bullying and homophobia.

They've lost their way, however.

FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 08:55

But loads of older transsexuals are perfectly happy to describe themselves as transsexual!

This whole reinventing of others to fit your narrative - including people who have intersex conditions - is hideously egocentric.

sackrifice · 29/08/2019 08:56

Hey lets play...Queer Theory Jeopardy...

HandsOffMyRights · 29/08/2019 08:58

Completely agree, Family.

Toorahtoorahaye · 29/08/2019 09:19

I rarely report posts I don’t like or disagree with, even if they’re bigoted- always think it’s better to let them stand unless they are really obscene or something. But you do you.

OP posts:
Toorahtoorahaye · 29/08/2019 09:24

Cassian - perfect put, totally agree. Why are schools changing a legal Act and adding their own spin on it? Why are gay men and lesbians calling Stonewall homophobic and hugely problematic. I simply don’t want false facts and a belief system taught to my kids as fact, like I wouldn’t want them forced to accept religious doctrine

OP posts:
FamilyOfAliens · 29/08/2019 09:25

I don’t report posts either where the poster has simply stated their view, unless it’s in a way that is offensive.

I was suggesting it as a way for the posters saying the thread is riddled with bigotry, homophobia and “trans-bashing” to resolve this.

Toorahtoorahaye · 29/08/2019 09:27

Family - I know- it wasn’t in reference to you but those calling me and some other posters bigots - let them do their worst to silence folk.
