How often do you wash your towels?

I wash mine after two goes and I regularly bleach... husband thinks I'm mental? AIBU??

I'm sorry but some of these are just so selfish, in environmental terms - it's irresponsible to use all that water & energy unnecessarily!
Plus there's the hygiene hypothesis angle; whether or not it's actually true, it's worth considering - who really wants or needs a sterile environment?

Every 7-10 days is enough for us, providing they dry properly between uses (& aren't flung on the floor to fester, typically in a teen's bedroom, then claimed by a dog or cat 😟).

I'm sure this makes me very smug & irritating, but that's just the way it is.

FeeFee832 · 27/08/2019 09:52

@Expressedways it's just us, I work from home so find it easy just to pop them in after a couple of used. My husband showers twice a day - once in the morning and then again after he exercises. He tends to exercise outside and plays rugby, so the towels can get a bit muddy even after he has showered...

I’d rather a sterile environment than a dirty one

CecilyP · 27/08/2019 09:54

Think she odviously means she puts them in a dryer! @CecilyP

Oh, I see - even more wasteful than I thought.

FeeFee832 · 27/08/2019 09:55

Bleach is for making them white again! Not because my family is covered in germs 😂

@BellyButton85 thank god there’s someone else who seems normal! 😂 I literally thought everyone washed towels after one use out of the shower/bath.
Saying that I come from a culture where cleanliness is so important!
Just shows why my ethnic minority ancestory didn’t get the plague when it was about and all others did! As we had different ways of washing.

LadyCarolinePooterVonThigh · 27/08/2019 09:56

Womble thank heavens there is still some common sense in the world. Your immunity will be in good shape from meeting lots of towel germs. Keep up the good work!

OtraCosaMariposa · 27/08/2019 09:56

You don't really know what sterile means, do you? Bugs, germs and bacteria are EVERYWHERE. You have billions living on you and inside you.

Sterile is not desirable. And there is a massive spectrum between "sterile" and "dirty".

Or are you one of those ewwwwww germs, dirty, nasty, zap everything with anti bac, bleach and fill the air with noxious Zoflora people?

Spidey66 · 27/08/2019 09:58

Every 2-3 days, we both use the same towels (we're mingers by MN standards) so an average of about 5 showers and handwashing. I do a 90 degree wash weekly with towels, teatowels and dishcloths.

Never bleach them though.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/08/2019 09:58

It is not 'disgusting' (or any other hyperbolic word of choice) to use a towel more than once.

We wash our hand towel every few days, in with a clothes wash, and the towels get a dedicated 60 wash once a week.

CecilyP · 27/08/2019 09:59

Are you sure about that, Maybe? Would people who have clean every day still do so if they didn’t have a tumble dryer?

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 27/08/2019 10:00

Do you change your knickers after every toilet trip Maybe? Imagine the poo particles.

Maybe2020 · 27/08/2019 10:00

Yes I guess I am one of those!
I like my home spotless and clean every day.
No Before you ask I can’t stand miss hunch or whatever her name is lol

FeeFee832 · 27/08/2019 10:00

@Maybe2020 I'm with you! Blush

MIL is one of those "wash towels every day with a fuckton of washing powder and fabric conditioner then tumble dry" people and her towels are awful.

So "conditioned" that they don;t actually absorb any water, they just sort of slide all over your body while you drip on the floor. Totally rubbish.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 27/08/2019 10:02

Surely they’re even wetter after you have washed them than if you’ve just used them to dry yourself!

I hang them on washing line outside or
put them in the tumble dryer.

Maybe2020 · 27/08/2019 10:02

Well like I said in my other post I said no offence each to their own!
As I knew everyone would jump on me.
Because I love cleanliness and don’t want to use dirty towels?
Lol
It’s a matter of personal choice. Yes I do think it’s disgusting but I couldn’t give a shit if someone wants to live like that it doesn’t concern me.

Maybe2020 · 27/08/2019 10:04

No of course not @Yogurtcoveredricecake!

I change them after every fart.

kittie01 · 27/08/2019 10:04

I wash towels after every use. I dry my lady parts (maybe I have a big fat Mary that needs drying cos it won’t drip dry 😱) I look after the environment in other ways but I’m never going to use a towel twice after showering.

CassianAndor · 27/08/2019 10:05

Maybe along with not understanding what sterile means, you also don't seem to know much about history.

Benjispruce · 27/08/2019 10:06

TOWELS USED TO PAT A CLEAN BODY DRY ARE NOT DIRTY!

Maybe2020 · 27/08/2019 10:06

Yeah I find it hard to believe people don’t wipe properly either!
I need to make sure I’m nice and dry down there as i couldn’t put my fresh clean underwear on in the morning if it wasn’t properly dry.

Maybe2020 · 27/08/2019 10:07

What don’t i know about history? What part of history do you think I was talking about ?

RavenLG · 27/08/2019 10:07

A towel isn’t dirty after one use though. And we need a bit of bloody bacteria. We’re subjecting ourselves and kids to such over sterilised environments now they’re not building up any immune systems.
You want to create more washing and wear out your towels, good for you. But don’t call other people disgusting because they’re sensible enough to know using a towel once to dry your clean body doesn’t make it dirty.

MargotLovedTom1 · 27/08/2019 10:08

Well, that's got to be the first time actual plague avoidance has been mentioned on a rabid laundry washing thread 😂. Madness!
