About uber eats

Hi
Name change for a more fitted one. Probably the most boring AIBU you'll come across, but still need to verify if I'm still sane
Today, as a treat, I ordered Macdonald through uber eats. 2 happy meals and 1 adult meal.
I get the delivery and realise straight away that one of the kids' meal is missing.
I try to call but I'm told I need to do an online reclamation.
I'm the meantime my 6yo is upset but knows I'm sorting this out. She's watching her brother eating while she's just there, starving and disappointed.
The app says it can take up to 24h to get a reply
I decide to reorder her meal thinking that uber is a reasonable company and will refund me the money I've paid extra.
Little did I know that they would only refund the meal and not the additional delivery fee of 3.50 pounds (which was more than the happy meal)
IABU to insist they do on the basis that they are a delivery company that failed to deliver the item ordered? Or do I just suck it up and boycott them for the rest of eternity?

Yanbu, McDonalds round near me are always getting the orders wrong and frequently miss something from our meals or send the wrong thing! I ordered my son a breakfast with the pancakes and syrup and we got pankcakes with sausage (we don’t eat pork) so had to throw it away. Uber eats refused to refund me even when I sent a pic and told me if I complained further they would ban me?! All because I have complained about McDonald’s in the past, it’s not my fault they are constantly getting orders wrong!

GivenchyDahhling · 25/08/2019 21:16

In my experience with Uber (for taxi services, not Eats) if you’re not happy with the refund offered at first but keep pushing and ask to escalate they will just refund. It’s like a bit of a game to see how little you will accept.

(If interested, I’ve had to ask for refunds where drivers took ludicrous routes, in one case during a massive surge)

EllenAshSky1 · 25/08/2019 21:16

Uber eats are not the one in the wrong.

They collect the food that's in the bag and come to your door.
McDonald's are the ones that forgot your food. Literally 0 to do with uber eats.
They don't even know what you've ordered unless they're to look inside the bag which they're not even allowed to do hence why it's normally taped.

Uber eats has a service that you click and say a food item is missing and will refund you for the item that is missing - through the company you ordered the food from.

It is very annoying this is something that has happened to me and my kids.

GivenchyDahhling · 25/08/2019 21:18

Crosspost with @PumpkinP - that’s bad they threatened to ban you, I’ve never heard that! On that basis maybe take my advice above with caution 😬

bestbefore · 25/08/2019 21:20

I genuinely have no idea why people use these services; how far can you be from a McDonald's; I'd just go and get my own! Confused

Sparklesocks · 25/08/2019 21:21

I suppose they could argue that they still delivered food on both occasions so the fee still stands.
They don’t care much in my experience, once you have logged the missing items and get the refund they see it as case closed.
And as pp have said, it’s probably a case of McDonald’s packing up the meals wrong rather than Uber Eats’ error - they only pick up and deliver what they are given.
Completely understand how difficult it is when you have kids though and one of them doesn’t have what the others do.

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2019 21:27

bestbefore, my nearest McDonalds is a 30 minute bus ride away and a 10/15 walk at either end.

UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 21:27

I realise they're not directly at fault but they should refund me and claim the money back from Macdonald no?

OP posts:
UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 21:29

@PumpkinP banned? Seriously? Wow, I'm speechless

OP posts:
PumpkinP · 25/08/2019 21:31

Just checked the message again ok they didn’t say ban but they said they would deactivate my account. They used the fact I had complain about McDonald’s in the past as a reason to not believe me and ignored my picture (which included my name and the date next to it on a piece of paper) and refused to refund me, couldn’t believe how awful the costumer service was, McDonald’s have got my order wrong in the store quite a few times. Yet apparently it’s my fault Confused so don’t expect much help from them

UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 21:32

@WorraLiberty @bestbefore same. And on a Sunday its even more likely to be 45 min

This is why I don't get delivery and avoid the drive through where possible.

It's been well known since the beginning of time, OK since that came out THIRTY YEARS AGO Shock that 'they fuck you at the drive through'.

Sadly, with fast food ordering it's a case of 'if you want it doing right' do it yourself because the person who's been paid £3.50 minus probably a substantial cut to Uber, doesn't care if your order is right or not.

UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 21:38

@PumpkinP that's still quite bad
I'm seriously considering not using them again and I Litteraly use them at least once a week (uber /uber eats)
Very poor customer service

They see it like they done their job.
Deleievred food to your house so you have to pay for that service.

McDonald's are the ones that got your order wrong so when you apply for a refund you will get it straight away through the app but it's not from uber eats.. as in their eyes they done what they're paid to do. Deliver food. The fact food was missing they wouldn't have known about or are even bothered about.. They don't order it at the McDonald's. They turn up and the bag is ready to go with your name or deleivery number attached.
I do understand it's annoying having to pay twice when you were just trying to get the one full order. X

EllenAshSky1 · 25/08/2019 22:14

Ignore every typo and spelling mistake... pregnant and very tired lol

Crunchymum · 25/08/2019 22:16

Don't Ubereats have a minimum charge?

£15 + Delivery?

Crunchymum · 25/08/2019 22:21

They don't seem to have a minimum spend, as you were Grin

W0rriedMum · 25/08/2019 22:30

It's the restaurants that are to fault mostly, not the delivery company. In this case, it's McDonald's.
I ordered a Pizza Express from Deliveroo who cancelled after an hour as PE cancelled the order staying they didn't do it in my area. But they did via Just Eat. Then Pizza Express missed out half the order.
It's annoying as they won't rectify it, just return the money. Meanwhile you're sitting there with one v disappointed kid.

UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 23:52

@Crunchymum no minimum
Happy meal was 2 pounds something
I paid more in delivery
@W0rriedMum I agree it's the restaurant's fault but there should be some sort of insurance to cover additional deliveries
Ive ordered directly from pizza hut in the past, they had forgotten something, they sent it back even though it was just the dessert
It was really frustrating and ruined the treat because I waited for her food and ate a cold meal 😭

OP posts:
UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 23:54

And also my reasoning is that, they always send me offers and vouchers, they could offer a free delivery with next order for instance.

OP posts:
UberEattamere · 25/08/2019 23:56

@EllenAshSky1 what I told them is :your job is not to deliver any food, it's to deliver 2 happy meals and 1 adult meal you haven't fully completed your task. That's my pov obviously and was trying to figure out if IWBU

Swer987 · 25/08/2019 23:58

Same thing happened to me before. They forgot an item I ordered and refunded for it. I then mentioned I didnt want to pay the delivery fee again and they sent an additional refund to cover the cost. It was very easy to do.

QuitMoaning · 26/08/2019 00:04

Uber eats (as well as Deliveroo and Just Eat) also get a cut from the restaurant which is between 20 and 30% of the food bill. And then you pay their delivery charge.

Roozy123 · 26/08/2019 00:07

But he wouldn't have known what was in the bag????
The bag is sealed and closed for him then was his job to deliver food. Not any particular food... just food from the place you picked.
The people that need to get the order correct is..... McDonald's. He doesn't work in or for McDonald's.

Yes it s pain in the arse but they done their job. Food missing is down to McDonald's not the uber driving picking a bag up and bringing it to your home.

Roozy123 · 26/08/2019 00:09

He done what you paid him to do.

McDonald's are the one that fucked the order. 🤷🏻‍♀️
