AIBU?

AIBU to be pissed off with Greggs?

So,two weeks ago I go in my local branch of Greggs to buy my usual vegetable bake. Sorry says the 12year old boy man behind the counter, but we have no vegetable bakes today. The same thing happened again the next day,and the next. On the fourth day,I asked the manageress what was the problem with the vegetable bakes. Apparently, they hadn't been sent any,and wouldn't be for the 'foreseeable future'.
I am not a vegetarian or a vegan, but I am not a big meat eater. I don't like beef, lamb or ham. I like chicken, but I am not a fan of most of their chicken sandwiches/baguettes etc as they are smothered in mayonnaise which I detest.
Then yesterday,I read in a newspaper that Greggs are in the process of 'substantially extending their vegan range'. Apparently, their vegan sausage roll has been so successful, that they are going to be rolling out a load more vegan options in their stores. (Just for the record,I can't eat the vegan sausage rolls as they contain quorn, and quorn makes me ill).
I am annoyed by the fact that they have stopped selling their vegetable bakes, but are increasing their vegan range. I appreciate that the veggie bakes are probably not vegan, but am I right in thinking that those of us who are vegetarian and not vegan,or like me,aren't much of a meat eater, are being sidelined, while they fall over themselves to extend their vegan range?

My sister made a point recently that she's noticed there aren't many vegetarian options, most are either for meat eaters or vegan! I get that it's annoying. I've just started being a vegetarian again but personally I'm fine with vegan options too.

You can get them from Iceland, you know?

I agree it is annoying that veggie options are being taken away in favour of vegan. Why not take away meat options too. Meat eaters can eat vegan too. I've eaten a lot of vegan food as I have a vegan friend who insists on going to vegan restaurants. !lots of it is nice, but a lot just isn't as nice as food with dairy and cheese.

I’m very happy with good, imaginative vegan food that is made with fresh proper ingredients, but not the fake meat, fake cheese stuff. It’s highly processed and it’s nasty - putting the vegan label on it doesn’t magically make it healthy, or even tasty.

But obviously I wouldn’t be going to Greggs for good vegan food - it’s convenience food and it fills a different niche!

I've been getting pissed off about this for a while. Vegetarian options were limited as it was. Now alot of places have no vegetarian options. Instead they have multiple vegan options.

It's not the same fucking thing. These twatts think, vegan and veggie are the same, we'll just do a few vegan options then it's more choice.

I want cheese, I want eggs, I want cream, I want butter. I don't want boring vegan shit. There are less vegetarian options now then there were 15 years ago when I first went veggie.

But a vegan option is vegetarian! If it bothers you that much then can you not customise it; e.g. asking for some cheese to be added if it's a tomato pasta dish?

It's not as simple as sprinkle some cheese on. Vegan food won't be cooked in butter, won't use eggs to bind, won't use cream/milk sauces. You can't change a vegan lasagna into a veggie one just by sprinkling on cheese. The vegan dairy alternatives are really processed crap that taste awful, and I don't want to eat them.

Isn't that how meat-eaters feel about veggie options?

It's nice to be tolerant.

Doesn't Quorn contain egg?! And therefore make it not vegan?! - i know it's not what you asked/spoke about. Do they do any salad sandwich options ?

But the meat options aren't being reduced or in some cases taken away completely. The vegetarian options are. I've nothing against vegans, but I don't want to eat their food. I can't eat meat options, so I'm back to having chip buttys when I should be having a nice meal

I have never come across any restaurant that serves vegan lasagne in place of veggie lasagne.

Then again I have never come across anywhere which serves vegan lasagne...

The vegetarian options are

People keep saying this but so far have yet to provide any examples.

I've nothing against vegans, but I don't want to eat their food.

So you literally just eat dairy and eggs? Interesting.

Instead of forcing yourself to endure chip butties, can you not just go to a restaurant which still serves plenty of non-vegan veggie food?

But that's the point. Places are reducing and in some cases getting rid of the vegetarian options. When eating as part of a group I can't dictate that everyone eats in a veggie place to appease me.

Most pub restaurants used to have maybe two or three veggie options. Now you're lucky if their is one veggie option. If that's something you don't like then your left with vegan which for me isn't a treat, which eating out should be.

Instead of forcing yourself to endure chip butties,

I actually like chip butties and would rather that then a quinoa salad or hummos wrap.

So what's the problem then?

@HugsAreMyDrugs

You're really tedious.
Because if I pay to eat out I expect to have a nice meal and hopefully have at least a couple of options to choose from. I don't expect to be left with no vegetarian option so I have to have the same meal that I make myself at home when I can't be bothered to cook.

When I've eaten Quorn,I've had a really bad stomach ache within about an hour of eating it,also feel very nauseous. The first time I ate it,I didn't make the connection, but the second time, when I was actually sick,I suspected that it might have been the cause. I did a bit of research and found that it isn't that uncommon to be intolerant to it.

Although I wouldn't go as far as saying I don't want boring vegan shit,I do get what you mean about wanting cheese and eggs. OK,so I'm not totally vegetarian,I do love a bacon sandwich and a roast chicken dinner. But just because I don't like beef, lamb, ham, and the vast majority of meat derived foods, such as sausages, beef burgers, saveloys, frankfurters etc,it doesn't mean that I'm a vegan, and don't want cheese or eggs.

@Owlettele some quorn is vegan and some isn't. They tend to mark the packaging.
