To bicker childishly over the temperature of chocolate

Oh wise people, please help me settle a long running dispute.

My husband and I bicker (lightheartedly) a lot over chocolate.

I eat mine at room temperature. I delight in the thrill of it melting in my mouth and putting it in the fridge disrupts this.

I end up with cold unyielding crunchy chocolate that I'm too impatient to warm in my mouth before that 'ahhh' moment.

My husband insists on eating all chocolate after it's been cooled in the fridge. If he buys me a bar I have to rescue it to bring it up to room temperature before I can enjoy it.

My only exception is soft caramel. I prefer these firm and will just have to accept the chocolate coating will spoil.

AIBU to want to eat my chocolate at room temperature and tell him refrigerated chocolate is just wrong.

Refrigerated chocolate is one of life’s simple pleasures. Sorry, OP. Wink

CherrySocks · 24/08/2019 23:46

He likes it one way, you like it another way. You don't have to like it the same way.

SamBeckett · 24/08/2019 23:47

I am with you @theorchidwhisperer if it is milk choc , however I prefer dark chocolate and I like that cold . and white chocolate can just go in the bin !

IncyWincyGrownUp · 24/08/2019 23:47

You’re both wrong. Chocolate out of the freezer is the best.

LaBelleSauvage · 24/08/2019 23:48

My DH does this. Divorce-worthy sin.

KeepHimJolene · 24/08/2019 23:48

All our chocolate goes in the freezer

GiggleMcDimples · 24/08/2019 23:50

Absolutely with you OP with the exception of Snickers, they belong in the fridge.

GiggleMcDimples · 24/08/2019 23:51

LTB

Talksunderwater · 24/08/2019 23:53

Freezer???!!! Tooth breaking stuff.

My teenage son and I were (spookily) discussing this very important issue just before you raised it OP. DH had put the caramel chocolate in the fridge (where he puts all chocolate) and we both agreed that it’s better gooey/room temperature...

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 24/08/2019 23:53

Room temp all the way!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 24/08/2019 23:55

Even the children know chocolate doesn’t stay out of the freezer. All very well trained.

SirB0bby · 24/08/2019 23:56

Room temperature, or possibly warmer.

MyOtherProfile · 24/08/2019 23:56

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the pinnacle of all chocolate - a bar that has been sitting on the radiator for a while, or on a sunny window sill. Nothing beats opening a wrapper to find soft, melted chocolate. Nothing except opening a tub of vanilla ice cream and finding that it has melted.

Andallofasuddenitsover · 24/08/2019 23:56

Freezer for me!

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 24/08/2019 23:57

Definitely room temperature. Cold chocolate just doesn’t taste the same.

Blibbyblobby · 25/08/2019 00:07

“bicker childishly over the temperature of chocolate” sounds like a crossword clue

Apileofballyhoo · 25/08/2019 00:12

Fridge chocolate is an abomination.

user1473878824 · 25/08/2019 00:55

I love Mumsnet just for the fact that two comments in it’s like “why is this an issue it’s fine” on a lighthearted thread.

bwydda · 25/08/2019 00:57

Urgh. Your and my dh is bu. Warm chocolate Envy

Polydactyly · 25/08/2019 01:03

He’s wrong and this is definitely grounds for divorce. Is he rich? Are you likely to get a good payout from him? If so make sure you send him a picture of all the unrefrigerated chocolate you buy with your settlement money just to rub it in some more.

WhatWouldJohnSay · 25/08/2019 01:07

I like chocolate from the freezer unless it's a Turkish delight which should be room temp to melt ASAP.
Dp likes his is the fridge.
We just half whatever we've got. Meh

Deadringer · 25/08/2019 01:10

The fridge kills the taste imo. Your dh is an idiot. Ltb and eat all the room temperature chocolate yourself

70sWitch · 25/08/2019 01:34

I'll eat chocolate any way it comes. Not fussy. It's CHOCOLATE.

Just me then? Grin

BikeTart · 25/08/2019 01:47

Room temperature. Always.

And it's cream then jam on scones, too.

xsquared · 25/08/2019 02:02

Putting chocolate in the fridge ruins the texture and taste, as it will absorb odours and leave a film of condensation on the chocolate. Fact.

Chocolate is best s'eaten at room temperature.
