To bicker childishly over the temperature of chocolate

Oh wise people, please help me settle a long running dispute.

My husband and I bicker (lightheartedly) a lot over chocolate.

I eat mine at room temperature. I delight in the thrill of it melting in my mouth and putting it in the fridge disrupts this.

I end up with cold unyielding crunchy chocolate that I'm too impatient to warm in my mouth before that 'ahhh' moment.

My husband insists on eating all chocolate after it's been cooled in the fridge. If he buys me a bar I have to rescue it to bring it up to room temperature before I can enjoy it.

My only exception is soft caramel. I prefer these firm and will just have to accept the chocolate coating will spoil.

AIBU to want to eat my chocolate at room temperature and tell him refrigerated chocolate is just wrong.

We just had some lovely warm pain au chocolat. Imagine how shit it would be with cold firm chocolate inside instead of warm and melty.

MyOtherProfile · 25/08/2019 09:23

Ah but pain au chocolat chocolate is shit anyway and only gets nice when it's warm and melted!

Freezer for sure, especially fruit and nut.

I argue with my DP about this exact thing.
There is nothing better than room temperature chocolate slowly melting in your mouth.
He puts it in the fridge and then skulls it down like a Labrador without even chewing it. It’s infuriating.
He doesn’t agree when I say putting it in the fridge ruins it & makes it all waxy.
I’ve just had to accept the fact he’s an idiot. We tend to have our own bars, or break big ones up to put half in the fridge and half in the cupboard where it should be!

Is chocolate stored in a fridge in the shops? Nope, because it doesn’t need to be and if you bought a chocolate bar from a fridge in a shop and ate it straight away it would be crap. YANBU.

Fridge chocolate is wrong wrong wrong.

Years ago I watched a documentary about OCD (before we realised how serious actual OCD is). There was a woman who would hold her bar of Galaxy between her thighs for the duration of an Eastenders episode to make it the perfect temperature and texture for her to eat it. I'm guessing it had come out of the fridge. (I'd need more than a bar of chocolate after enduring an episode of Eastenders!)

In in the fridge chocolate camp, it takes longer to eat that way.

minimonkey11 · 25/08/2019 11:33

We have the exact same thing! I like it room temp and my husband always puts it in the fridge. Ridiculous!

Asthenia · 25/08/2019 12:59

Fridge chocolate is horrible - it loses its taste! I’m with you on this OP.

dollydaydream114 · 25/08/2019 14:33

I prefer it from the fridge.

I can never really understand why people argue over each other’s arbitrary food preferences, though. It just ... doesn’t matter? I must have listened over the years to so many people arguing over what colour a cup of tea should be and how to arrange jam and cream on a scone and whether to put pineapple on pizza and if you should have beans on a cooked breakfast. And I always just think “Just have it how you want, mate.”

Pretendapony · 25/08/2019 14:44

I can never taste it properly if it’s been in the fridge. I just crunch it up and it’s gone. Pointless calories! I prefer it at room temperature or warmer so it’s all melty and tasty. Oooh delicious!
