It's just oranges. I need to let it go. Why am I so pissed off??

DS (8) ate 4 oranges a couple of weeks ago.
Bought some more, I told him not to eat 4, so he took the whole packet and said he would eat 5 Hmm

He refused to put them back, I confiscated his phone he had a tantrum that I haven't seen since he was 3.

Roll on 3 weeks and I bought some oranges an hour ago.
We all like the bloody oranges.
I go up stairs to settle the baby, come back down and he's eaten all of them.

I was supposed to take him to the park for ice cream but now I'm so livid he's in his room and I said no to park and ice cream because he's been selfish.

But it's just oranges, I should let it go shouldn't I?

We were all looking forward to getting out and enjoying the sun. I'm just so pissed off with him doing whatever the fuck he pleases.

Oh your initial response was as twatty though.

I take it back.

It was for you after all.

"No more until I buy more."

That doesn't even make sense.

How could he eat more before I bought more?

Anyway, you read the thread now, I'm off to make myself some coffee.

*No more until I buy more.

Job done.*

Good plan, baffle him with nonsense. Even with the extra vitamin C coursing through his veins he will never make sense of this and he will be put off satsumas for life.

These dc whose parents would get more oranges are the ones who hold five coloured pencils in their other hand at school when everyone on the table needs the coloured pencils. Fact.

YANBU to nip this in the bud with the cancelled ice cream and perhaps more consequences of about the same level of seriousness if he does it again, or to physically restrict his access to oranges in future. Yes, they are relatively healthy but I think it's a matter of principle at stake. He shouldn't be doing things he's been told not to do, even if they are sensible in themselves.

I'm astonished that so many people are saying oranges cause diarrhoea. I've never heard of that before and DH eats a lot of clementines when they are in season. If there are people who have that reaction then I guess it would be sensible to restrict their intake, In this child's case, the point is nothing to do with his health, it's that he can't be allowed to take for granted that he can take anything he likes.

I think OP handled this really well. It was discussed calmly with her ds and him not getting an ice cream so his ice cream money was spent on more satsumas was fair.

I’m not the twat over reacting about oranges 🤷🏻‍♀️
