To re-wash the clothes because I didn't take them out of the washing machine straight away?

Once again, I didn't hear the washing machine cycle finish and the clothes must have been lying there for between 1/2 hour to 1 hour.

I must start setting a timer or buy a decent washing machine with a persistent alarm!

I am now re-washing the clothes before putting them in the dryer. Sick of the creases and I never iron.

You can leave your machine on a rinse hold for several hours and just spin it just before you want to get the clothes out to save on creases.

Jubba · 23/08/2019 15:30

However. DONT EVER USE YOUR TUMBLE DRYER OVERNIGHT!!!

the biggest cause of house fires are tumble dryers. My neighbours house burnt down only 6 weeks ago. His children were in the house. It’s set light and 6 mins later the youse is pure flames.

Not worth it. Not at all

Rubicon80 · 23/08/2019 15:32

YABVVVVVU

I often CBA to take the last load out at night. And I don't even have a tumble dryer and I don't iron.

Shame you’re not on the east coast, I’m in Scotland’s sunniest City amd it’s about 23oC here with a light breeze. If it isn’t nailed down it’s been washed and dried already today!

You could save yourself a lot of angst by being a bit mental and ironing-I never wear creased clothes! (Yes I do judge the non ironers-despite what you think, yes it shows)

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:35

I feel that your life may only improve if you take advantage of my Washing and Drying Tutorial

It's improving my life already and making me smile. Thank you. Grin

Agreed. I'd never leave a machine unattended. Our sink backed up once when I left the washing machine on once. I had told my DH it wasn't draining properly, but of course he has to wait until something actually goes wrong, despite my heads-up. Sigh...

There is a definite smell if the clothes stay in the washing machine too long. I have a strong sense of smell so what bothers me may not bother others. I put clothes on a quick 30min cycle if I’ve left too long

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:37

Probably should iron. I'd need a tutorial for that too. I have actually made things WORSE by ironing. Yes, really!

Ah, but we on the West Coast have the midges to keep us happy.

Rinse hold - another great tip. Thanks for this!

Washing machine ON

"hey google, set a timer for X mins"

Timer goes off

Set washing machine to 1400 (max) spin, just a spin

"hey google, set a timer for 12 mins"

Job done. The second spin gets them a bit dryer so cuts down on drying times.
Make sure you empty the drier as soon as it's done and you avoid creases (as far as possible). And don't overload either the washing machine or drier as this will make creases worse.

HTH :D

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 15:38

More evidence that DHs are not all they're cracked up to be.

pooopypants Thank you! No poopy pants for you, I'm sure Wink

@JudgeRindersMinder (Yes I do judge the non ironers-despite what you think, yes it shows)

You misunderstand. It's not that I think it doesn't show that I haven't ironed. It's that I literally couldn't care less.

What is the judgement there - "she hasn't ironed her clothes"? Correct! I haven't. Grin

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/08/2019 15:43

And that is your absolute right, but from what OP says, it looks like creased clothes do bother her to some degree

@SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum and you can keep them all!😂 Sunshine is my drug!!

diddl · 23/08/2019 15:44

I would just rinse & spin, not wash again.

TurquoiseDress · 23/08/2019 15:45

I wouldn't re wash the clothes, would only do this if I'd left them overnight or something and they had started to smell funny!

Definitely think you are ok with leaving for half an hour!

dementedpixie · 23/08/2019 15:46

Not wet in my bit of Scotland today. I have towels hanging outside. I would not rewash from sitting in the machine for an hour or 2.

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:47

Re the creases. I would like them to be as little creased as possible whilst not lifting a finger. Unreasonable, I know! I would put up with some creasing as my laziness would win out. I live rurally and have no social life. Jeans/t-shirt/fleece is my wardrobe.

OP posts:
poolblack · 23/08/2019 15:47

Bloody hell what an absolute wasteful thing to do.

Rubicon80 · 23/08/2019 15:47

@JudgeRindersMinder

Absolutely. Just thought I'd point out that 'non-ironers' are not necessarily distraught at the idea that someone might notice!

If I had servants, I'd get them to iron my bedsheets to make the beds either to make. Mind you, if I could afford servants I'd have sheets that actually fitted our beds...

Lindormilk · 23/08/2019 15:48

Seriously?

Mine lie there overnight if im late in the night putting a wash on.

Just put them out to dry.

MmmBlowholes · 23/08/2019 15:48

If you think they're gonna smell then a rinse cycle with some fabric softener will do the trick, but only after a few hours AT LEAST otherwise its very wasteful.

AuldAlliance · 23/08/2019 15:49

If your washing machine gets pongy and/or if you have hard water, run a hot cycle every month or so with a cup of white vinegar or a cup of hot water with soda crystals dissolved in it.

I'm happy to come to your island and do a demo, but I live in Provence, so travel costs are quite high. (Can't help with tumble drier demo as I've never owned one and nobody here has one. (smugface))

AuldAlliance · 23/08/2019 15:49

Fabric softener is the devil's very semen. White vinegar is what you need...
