To re-wash the clothes because I didn't take them out of the washing machine straight away?

Once again, I didn't hear the washing machine cycle finish and the clothes must have been lying there for between 1/2 hour to 1 hour.

I must start setting a timer or buy a decent washing machine with a persistent alarm!

I am now re-washing the clothes before putting them in the dryer. Sick of the creases and I never iron.

I have found that if I do a wash cycle with a low spin, and then do a high spin, they don't get hardly creased at all from the high spin.

Then I hang them out.

Is much better.

augustagain · 23/08/2019 14:55

I might be overfilling the machine - there's a thought!

I thought I was being "good" to keep the number of loads I do down, but maybe I've taken that too far.

You're probably drying too much, for too long, at too high a temperature.

I sympathise re - the constant rain in Scotland. I really do.

But I have the washing and drying down to a fine art these days and rarely iron anything.

Don't overfill the dryer, especially with sheets and duvet covers. They need lots of room or they will crease.

You can come to my house for a Sir James Seminar on washing and drying clothes without needing to iron anything.

Wish I hadn't done it now.

Washing would have been dried and put away by 12 noon. instead, it's looking more like 5pm!

SirJames I have a few items of clothing I am thinking of sending to the charity shops. You know that thin cotton? I can't get it to look good.

What the hell have I just read?!

You are bonkers.

Purpleartichoke · 23/08/2019 14:57

Creases come from sitting in the dryer or laundry basket after the dryer.

I only rewash if I forget I started laundry and discover it sitting in the machine the next day.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 14:57

Seriously - your creasing problem is with the tumble dryer, not the washing machine.

I also frequently set off the washing machine overnight and take the stuff out in the morning.

You have a Tumble Dryer Technique Problem.

hidinginthenightgarden · 23/08/2019 14:58

If I leave it in there for too long - like 3/4 hours or more I put it on a rinse not a full wash again.

BeanBag7 · 23/08/2019 14:58

Oh for goodness sake. If you left them in the washer all weekend, maybe its worth re-watching but half an hour??? Half an hour??? Ridiculous

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 14:59

OP - there are some items which do need to be ironed.

I do the ironing every three weeks. That's all that is needed.

Do you live in Argyll too?

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:00

I live on a Scottish island. A wet one!

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 15:01

Aha.

The Outer Hebrides, then.

I can get to you in about eight hours for a Washing and Drying Tutorial.

You will have to put me up and pay all my fares.

And organise a ceilidh so that I can be entertained.

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:02

SirJames You are making me laugh Grin

MonChatEstMagnifique · 23/08/2019 15:02

I've re washed if it's been sitting in the machine overnight but if it's just been in there for an hour or so. In fact I hardly ever get the washing straight out of the machine when it's finished.

I wish I only needed to do 2 loads each week. We do at least 2 each day. 😓

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:02

Seriously, thanks for all the tips everyone. I am no good at household stuff.

Or is the Island of Mull?

Arran?

Arran isn't too far from me. I can do Arran as a day trip.

Cost of Washing and Drying Tutorial £350.46 (plus VAT.)

Kaykay06 · 23/08/2019 15:04

Stirling, I find is very wet so drying clothes is a pest and with myself and 4 kids I feel my house resembles a laundrette a lot of the time.
The washing machine I have is minging and anything left in it after it finishes smells so I do tend to watch out for it and hang stuff up/out ASAP. Or I’ll put it on a 15 min quick wash but rarely do that as electric metered so costs a fortune.

So it seems.

Oblomov19 · 23/08/2019 15:06

Eh? Is this a joke? Hmm

Expressedways · 23/08/2019 15:06

I will confess that I just put my washing machine on an express cycle to rewash clothes that we forgot to transfer to the dryer yesterday evening. Half an hour though, that’s crazy and unnecessary! As another believer in tumble drying everything except delicates and not ironing I think if you’re getting bad creases your dryer is either shit, running for too long or overloaded.
(We are not allowed to hand washing outside, we have no radiators and in an open plan flat there is nowhere for a rack to go without getting in the way).

Washing Arran jumpers - now THERE'S a challenge!

negomi90 · 23/08/2019 15:07

My normal is turn on the washing machine right before I go to work or go to be and then get it in the morning/when I get home (a good 12 hours including the washing time). Never had a problem.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 15:07

Bah.

I am an expert on washing anything - even Arran jumpers.

HappyParent2000 · 23/08/2019 15:08

Give it a smell, if its bad do a 15 min refresh cycle, no powder!

If I left in for a week I would rewash, a day or less... no I wouldn’t.

Refresh cycle has saved our butts a fair few times since we got our washer.
