To re-wash the clothes because I didn't take them out of the washing machine straight away?

Once again, I didn't hear the washing machine cycle finish and the clothes must have been lying there for between 1/2 hour to 1 hour.

I must start setting a timer or buy a decent washing machine with a persistent alarm!

I am now re-washing the clothes before putting them in the dryer. Sick of the creases and I never iron.

Eh?? Don't you have a job? Places to be? Do you just stay in waiting for the machine to finish? I'm sorry OP but I'm totally baffled by this!

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:09

I will be so laid back the next time my washing is going around. I just get so annoyed with myself sometimes - thinking WHY CAN'T I DO ONE SIMPLE THING LIKE HEARING THE WASHING HAS FINISHED?! Aargh! I was working at the time (work from home) but it still drives me nuts how inept I am at times.

I was listening to something for work and didn't hear the machine had stopped. Will use a timer next time or just now worry about it. I drive myself mad, I really do. Now I have posted here, I see you are all in agreement Grin

Neither do I.

I was just checking in case you wanted your Washing and Drying Tutorial in the Gaelic.

I don't use fabric softener. Does that really help with creases or is it a waste of money? It's something I've never used.

I was going to ask where in scotland you are! I'm in Lanarkshire and it is 21 degrees and glorious out today!

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/08/2019 15:17

OP, stop it. I often leave my washing in overnight and hang it out the next day. However, I do iron and can't understand people who don't...but that's another issue. Don't waste water/electricity on rewashing stuff, that's just daft. Just give it a good shake.

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:18

You lucky thing Becca This is hands-down the worst summer we've had in years. It's never great, but this year has been bloody ridiculous. If I could afford it and was okay about leaving the dog, I'd totally be booking abroad for next year. No wonder I get SAD syndrome every year!

Northernsoullover · 23/08/2019 15:19

In the winter you can safely leave your washing in overnight. It doesn't smell. Also that wonderful time delay feature? For years I muttered about how pointless it was until I realized I could set it to start at 5am and be able to put it out before going to work.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 15:20

Fabric conditioner makes no difference.

It is knowing how much to put in your tumble dryer and setting the temperature correctly which will make your life suddenly easier.

Sheets and duvet covers - do them separately from everything else.

Dry at low temp. Take out when just very slightly damp and fold.

If you overload your dryer with a huge variety of stuff, most things will come out creased.

augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:20

Oooh yes, timer delay. I've got one of those. Must re-work my whole "system". I can do this, yes I can!

OP posts:
augustagain · 23/08/2019 15:21

I think I have been overloading my dryer. I always wash sheets separately. I wish towels separately. I wash all clothes together.

I have an airer upon which I hang things like knickers, towels, tea towels.

Jumpers/blouses/shirts go on to hangers immediately and they air dry easily and mostly do not need ironing.

Never leave things in the tumble dryer once it's finished. Get them out straightaway and fold while warm.

Your life can be cease-free, OP. Let your tumble-dryer become your friend.

And FWIW do not panic about leaving washing in your machine a laver for a few hours.

It's all in the tumble drying.

Have you nowhere in the house to put an airer?

Jubba · 23/08/2019 15:25

Jesus. I leave mine for a few days sometimes! 😂😂. My washing machine is amazing. As long as you don’t open the door.

Celticrose · 23/08/2019 15:25

I left a towel in the machine overnight so this morning I just put it through the rinse cycle and then hung it out. But for 2 hours I would have just hung it out.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 15:25

Your life can be cease-free

Crease-free obviously.

Likethebattle · 23/08/2019 15:25

I’m just outside Glasgow, it’s warm today but it has been raining for weeks. I don’t run a dryer as it’s awful for the environment, I use clothes horses and a small dehumidifier. My clothes have been left in the machine for a day before,we have soft water which works really well with detergent so it doesn’t need rewashed.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 23/08/2019 15:28

I can do this, yes I can

Quite sure you don't want me to pop over to Lewis or Benbecula or wherever you hang out?

I feel that your life may only improve if you take advantage of my Washing and Drying Tutorial.

Celticrose · 23/08/2019 15:28

My machine has a timer and an alarm which goes off when cycle is finished. Maybe something to consider when buying a new one whenever that is
