Nando’s is hugely popular in multicultural Leicester. It’s a place where young people can meet their friends and socialise in an alcohol-free environment and enjoy spicy food, which everyone likes and which is halal with no pork on the menu to put off the Muslims, and no beef to put off the Hindus.

Dessert parlours operate in a similar niche and are also very popular.

Arnoldthecat · 21/08/2019 22:59

YANBU..i think its a triumph of marketing,,all this crap about .."a cheeky nandos". I went in my first nandos about a year ago. The menu was baffling, the service was shite and the food was shite. Maybe its marketed at the younger set who are happy to put up with shite to be in the in crowd? What a crap organisation.

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 21/08/2019 23:02

It used to be good around 15-20 years ago but then they got too big I think. Portion sizes got smaller and prices got bigger. It's a shame really because I love the flavours but it's too over-priced these days.

TriciaH87 · 21/08/2019 23:02

You can by the peri salt in shops. Have some in my food cupboard.

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2019 23:02

But there are much better halal places surely

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2019 23:03

The portions sizes are so small

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2019 23:03

They need to provide a full meal for one

I don’t mind Nando’s, but it wouldn’t be my first choice of eating place. I do know someone who had their wedding meal there, obviously big fans.

MidniteScribbler · 21/08/2019 23:04

I've never been. There's no fast food chains where I live now, so it's nice to be able to have lots of choice of small businesses, and the whole area has a paddock to plate philosophy, so everything is grown local. I hate going back to the mainland and seeing so much bland food.

Wolfiefan · 21/08/2019 23:05

Wedding meal there? Shock

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2019 23:06

I was dragged in there few week ago by my sister and thought what the hell are we doing here when I wanted to go across the road to the sizzler and get a decent meal and decent price

Sparklesocks · 21/08/2019 23:07

I guess a lot of people just like it.

whattodowith · 21/08/2019 23:07

I thought it’d had its day tbh. I remember the major hype about 4/5 years ago regarding ‘cheeky Nandos’. My best mate was always bleating on about it so I relented one day to see what the fuss was all about. Terrible, never again.

SoLost101 · 21/08/2019 23:09

It’s nothing special ... Iv always thought it was cheap though ?

Just a cheap and cheerful kind of meal but haven’t been in a couple of years so maybe they have raised there prices as a lot of posters seem to think it’s not cheap!

Whatisthisfuckery · 21/08/2019 23:09

I love chicken but Nando’s is too expensive, the seasoning is crap and it’s horribly noisy. We have three in our small city and I’ve been to them all, and they’re all shite.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 21/08/2019 23:11

I love a nandos. I think standards have slipped a bit recently, the menu seems to get bigger every time so maybe that has an impact.

I used to work away a lot and they were a reliable spot for a decent dinner that didn't look too oddly at a lone woman and her book!

Mymygivemeafry · 21/08/2019 23:12

@Stefoscope my work place used to make us go there for treat team lunches too and I always felt bitter! Ended up taking my own pack lunch, eating it sneakily and then just buying a drink 😕.

Howlovely · 21/08/2019 23:12

I've been once and thought it was shite. I hate the aftertaste (undertaste?) of all their sauces. My husband, having grown up with it, raves about it and couldn't wait go get me to go. I was completely underwhelmed and won't go again. Apparently I just 'don't get it' 😆

Radyward · 21/08/2019 23:13

Me and DH absolutely love Nandos. We love it like twice a year if we are on our own without DC and just indulge as its so expensive!!!

UniversallyUnchallenged · 21/08/2019 23:13

Agreed, though stupidly I’ve been back a few times, trying to ‘get it’ ...
Each time, thinking, is this actually it?

TatianaLarina · 21/08/2019 23:13

Never been. Until recently I thought it was Mexican.

What’s the point of lots of chicken?

Boobahs · 21/08/2019 23:15

Only ever been 4 times because it was friends' choices... way too over-priced for what is essentially chicken and chips Hmm

Nothingcomesforfree · 21/08/2019 23:15

I’m sure I posted about this before and was shouted down in chorus of “ we all like different things, shocker”.

But I still think on the whole people like to eat well and a Nando’s is the antithesis of this.
Didn’t realise it was booze free though. That’s good to know.

ElizaDee · 21/08/2019 23:16

I like nandos.

It's a good option if you are trying to be healthier. When I am I have chicken, peas & coleslaw with a salad for the table added.

It's good value too if you get the 20-odd quid meal deal.

SingingSands · 21/08/2019 23:17

We went on Saturday after meeting our kids off the train, somewhere for a quick tea before hitting the road.

Had to pull over at a retail park halfway home as DH was ill. Bleurgh!!

We won't be back!
