As a take away option, nandos is far better for you than KFC. We have the chicken, rice, salad options.

While I love, absolutely love, KFC, I cant eat it because of the fat content. Makes me ill.

We’ll only get Nandos as a take away if we need something quick and can’t otherwise get to the supermarket or can’t cook for some reason. We don’t go there to eat in.

nagynolonger · 22/08/2019 07:32

Alright if you're 14 and just been to the cinema with your mates.

I've only been there twice with DD and GC. Second time DH refused to go in and ate a supermarket meal deal in the car.

I won't bother again. One of the chain family pubs gives more choice. And even KFC is better.

rslsys · 22/08/2019 07:34

Went once to see what all the fuss was about. Not a mistake I will be repeating!

BlueSkiesLies · 22/08/2019 07:35

I can’t belive everyone saying it’s dry and bland. Really? Chicken always juicy and everything v tasty when I go. Love the macho peas.

WrongKindOfFace · 22/08/2019 07:35

I don’t mind it. Wouldn’t be my first choice, but it’s ok. I quite like the sunset burgers (most definitely nothing dry about them). The rice isn’t great but I usually get vegetable sides if we go.

I realise I’m strange in this but I like paying upfront and not faffing around waiting for the bill. I dislike that part of a meal.

Chivers53 · 22/08/2019 07:36

I used to go all of the time at uni, I don't think it's that expensive for the amount you get? Or it didn't used to be at least. Order a tap water, then a main and 2 sides used to be around £10 (also got student discount which was 25% off). Could never finish all of the chips, you get loads! I don't go anymore as there isn't one locally, but surprised to hear so many people have been poorly from it.

SinkGirl · 22/08/2019 07:37

I don’t understand the allure of chain restaurants generally, at least for adults. I can understand having a consistent menu that you know your child will eat when you’re in a different town. But for adults without any issues that affect food intake / choices? I don’t get it.

The food is always poor. Why would you go to Zizzi when there’s probably at least a few far superior Italian restaurants in your town? They’re not generally cheaper either, unless I suppose you’re using something like clubcard vouchers. There’s three Pizza Express venues within 20 mins of me, and three amazing stone baked pizza places... why would you go to PE?

Going out to eat is one of my favourite things to do - the thought of wasting a meal out on Nando’s makes me sad.

What really makes me sad are the complexes where there’s 10 restaurants and they’re all crappy chains.

WhatNoNotYouAgain · 22/08/2019 07:38

Yabu, food of the gods.

LeysaV · 22/08/2019 07:39

I agree OP

I have been twice (one was a free promotional meal) and once with DD

It was tasty enough but the price, for me, was high . I know some who are forever in a Nando's though so its horses for courses I suppose.

LeysaV · 22/08/2019 07:39

Oh and I did not like the coleslaw , found it very "stringy"

WhatNoNotYouAgain · 22/08/2019 07:39

People are snobs about it though, as demonstrated on this thread.

I love eating out. I live in London, we go to fantastic independent restaurants all the time. Shock horror, we also do nando's and greasy spoon cafes Shock

Troels · 22/08/2019 07:42

Nandos is not really good food at all. I tried it as everyone went on about how good it was, hated it. But to give it a fair chance we went back a year later. Still a load of crap. Not bothering again.

WhatNoNotYouAgain · 22/08/2019 07:42

I am taking my 3 year old there today in fact.

Shoxfordian · 22/08/2019 07:42

I don't like Nando's
It should either be all table service or queue up and get food like a Mcdonalds. Not halfway
The food isn't great
I don't like kfc much either but I'd rather go there than Nandos.

LaurieMarlow · 22/08/2019 07:44

I don’t understand the allure of chain restaurants generally, at least for adults.

Depends where you are.

I found them great in central London for a group for lunch or a quick dinner when working late.

independent restaurants near the workplace either struggled with the numbers or service was too slow.

Also when you’re taking kids out, Pizza Express (for example) have the serving of kids down to such a tee that it now almost pains me to go elsewhere. Though I do occasionally Grin

Toneitdown · 22/08/2019 07:45

People are snobs about it though, as demonstrated on this thread.

Doesn't the food have to be cheap for in order for people to be snobby about it? Surely if it's both shit and expensive, as Nando's is, then it's not snobby to say you don't like it?

user1493494961 · 22/08/2019 07:45

Totally agree, vastly over-hyped.

LaurieMarlow · 22/08/2019 07:45

It should either be all table service or queue up and get food like a Mcdonalds. Not halfway

Why though?

I find their set up much more practical for groups

WhatNoNotYouAgain · 22/08/2019 07:46

Surely if it's both shit and expensive, as Nando's is, then it's not snobby to say you don't like it?

Well personally I don't think it's remotely expensive.

However no, it's "chain restaurant" snobbery.

rookiemere · 22/08/2019 07:46

I don't get it - it's not cheap and it's not cheerful. If we're going for fast food then give me Five Guys ( also not cheap but good) or a Subway salad any day.

I can see why the ordering at the counter may be popular for groups of teens though.

LaurieMarlow · 22/08/2019 07:47

It’s not expensive.

LaurieMarlow · 22/08/2019 07:49

God, I’ve never come across a more over hyped franchise than five guys. Terrible burgers.

ethelfleda · 22/08/2019 07:52

YANBU
I’ve tried it a couple of times - the second time because I thought maybe I was missing something as it seems so popular? But it was completely mediocre.

OtraCosaMariposa · 22/08/2019 07:56

Gosh some people are getting very worked up about whether or not people like a particular restaurant.

We have been a few times, it's a favourite of teen DD's. Obviously it's not Michelin star level cooking, but it's not the same as a chicken takeaway either.

Kids like that you can customise your chicken with the level of chilli which you're comfortable with. The service is usually very quick. Refillable soft drinks. Last time I went I had a pitta thing with halloumi and chicken thighs which was lovely and very tasty.

It's not expensive - yes it's more expensive than takeaway but the two aren't comparable as you're sitting in and paying for the convenience of that. It's comparable with similar places like Chiquitos, Pizza Hut, Wagamama.

LonelyTiredandLow · 22/08/2019 07:58

Five Guys where I live has an actual display of peanuts. Huge open bags of them with boxes that state they shouldn't be on the shop floor. Apparently they use peanut oil for EVERYTHING. How do peanut allergy sufferers know this before they enter?

So much of the cheap rubbish food is wildly overrated these days. Nandos chicken, the 2 times I've tried it, is dry. Really basic chicken I can cook far better at home - I'm not a spicy sauce fan admittedly and personally think Nando's is more about men willy waving that they can eat that rather than any of the actual food.
