To think DP is being a bit ridiculous

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 20:05

My DP hates me walking about the house in a vest and underwear, we have a taxi rank directly across from our house but a good enough distance that they wouldn’t see into the house clearly. We have big windows but no air con so particularly on these hot days I just cannot force myself into pj’s trousers with this heat.
He says clothes are respectful and does follow this himself and wouldn’t even answer the door for post without a shirt on but I’m not answering the door I’m just chilling out.
Maybe I should just wear the damned trousers and quit fighting him on it..
My legs just love the freedom 😂

@weliveinapigsty the gent downstairs has his heating on so I totally benefit haha. Still not surviving outside with a coat on though, thin layers max. Such an odd country for weather, I was freezing this morning and sweating this afternoon. A very pretty place to live though 😍

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 22:41

@weliveinapigsty sorry forgotten NC again

He should dictate what you should be doing but I personally would feel comfortable walking around the house in underwear without nets or blinds at the window....

Ironically I’ve even started a thread about it earlier Grin

CTRL · 21/08/2019 22:43

Have you asked this before though ?

Feel like I read this yesterday

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 22:46

@ctrl nope haven’t asked before, I’ve got blinds and curtains but no nets...
My mum makes nice homemade nets though, might look into it!

NTHWT but I'm in a 2nd floor flat (in London) and usually strip down to vest and knickers (boy shorts ones), having said tht I'm single - if BF was hear I'd probably want to ensure my pot belly was hidden and refrain Grin at mo I'm pleasing ones self Grin Grin

FattyPeddledFuriously999 · 21/08/2019 22:48

*NRTWT

dollydaydream114 · 21/08/2019 22:48

YANBU. Wear what you bloody like in your own home. I can’t believe all the posters telling to put some shorts on! Why on earth should you? It’s nobody else’s business.

I’d forgotten how incredibly weird Mumsnet is about the way other people choose to dress in their own homes Hmm

FattyPeddledFuriously999 · 21/08/2019 22:49

geez *here

thecatinthetwat · 21/08/2019 22:50

How many people on this thread have net curtains- seriously?

I remember my gran having these. Many years ago. Do people still have net curtains? Or blinds? She had blinds too. Grin

MoaningMinnie1 · 21/08/2019 22:51

Nothing to stop you buying some loose (longish) shorts with a drawstring waist or comfortable joggers which look nice with a vest top. I spend a lot of time indoors in that sort of gear and can go out the front in them but I wouldn't do that in my knickers!

There are times for being undressed or in underwear and other times - and places - when it is not appropriate.

CTRL · 21/08/2019 22:52

If you have a window covering I don’t see the issue. It’s hot and your modesty is covered and your inside your own home🤷‍♀️

His being unreasonable

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 23:02

@MoaningMinnie1 I get dressed if I have to pop out, stick pj’s on if I’ve to get the door and get dressed completely if I have anyone round. I don’t see any time chilling in my house in a vest and underwear as inappropriate but respect some people see otherwise... clearly my partner does too Grin

Lunde · 21/08/2019 23:12

I really don't see what the real difference is between OP's boxer/vest combo and someone wearing shorts and a vest-top indoors in terms of being visible. Yet if someone posted that her DP didn't like her wearing shorts in her own home there would be howls of outrage instead of the people here trying to body shame OP!

EllenAshSky1 · 21/08/2019 23:19

You're a grown woman.. wear what you want in your own home that you're comfortable in.

I'm the same, I love a strappy top and pants to just chill around the house.

I wouldn't answer the door like this but it's super comfy, so I can relate.
If it's cold I'll bung a dressing gown on top or put pj bottoms on.

If he has an issue it's his issue. I'm sure you don't tell him what to wear around his own home lol. X

ElizaDee · 21/08/2019 23:27

@DeadSouth oh god yes I totally forgot I like to strut in front of my open curtained windows in my underwear, got to give the 2 old men taxi drivers a show day to day.

That's what it sounds like.

POP7777777 · 21/08/2019 23:27

I only wear pants and a top when at home. Obviously, not to answer the door and obviously, not in view of anyone. So what?

QueefLatifah · 21/08/2019 23:30

So shocked at head responses?what the fuck mumsnet.
Your body.
Your home.
Your clothes/underwear

YOUR CHOICE.

I also don’t own shorts. Not comfy with my lumpy legs out in public in full glare of the sun.
But I walk about the house in my pants. It’s comfy, they are my pants, it’s my fucking arse and if that’s what I want to wear then I will?! The freedom is nice after being in trousers all day, and since when did a bloke get to decide what his partner wears!

Clearly, he thinks someone outside can see, and that bothers him.

Tell him tough shit.

ElizaDee · 21/08/2019 23:31

What's wrong with leggings as indoor clothes

QueefLatifah · 21/08/2019 23:33

*these responses

By the way, if this was posted in relationships, saying “my partner doesn’t like me walking about in underwear”

You would have been advised to leave him, and that he was controlling you...

CheshireChat · 21/08/2019 23:33

We lived in a first floor flat before and unless someone was right near the window, you couldn't really see in.

Mind you, my DP was trying to tell me it's different for a guy to be walking around in boxer shorts than a woman. It didn't work.

QueefLatifah · 21/08/2019 23:34

@ElizaDee
What is wrong with pants and a vest exactly?? Why do her legs need to be covered up

Durgasarrow · 21/08/2019 23:41

I think it's a little underdressed. And I'll bet people do look in the windows.

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 23:41

@QueefLatifah I am really surprised at the amount of MNers who are against being able to wear what you want in your own home.
@CheshireChat yeah I think it’s the same here cause whenever I walk or drive by all I can see is the cats scratchpost by the windowsill

God knows many guys like to stoat about in boxers but I guess covering my body should include legs 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
QueefLatifah · 21/08/2019 23:44

@Durgasarrow and so what if they do?? They see a woman in a vest and pants? She’s not legs akimbo on the back of the sofa in a thong ffs
