To think DP is being a bit ridiculous

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 20:05

My DP hates me walking about the house in a vest and underwear, we have a taxi rank directly across from our house but a good enough distance that they wouldn’t see into the house clearly. We have big windows but no air con so particularly on these hot days I just cannot force myself into pj’s trousers with this heat.
He says clothes are respectful and does follow this himself and wouldn’t even answer the door for post without a shirt on but I’m not answering the door I’m just chilling out.
Maybe I should just wear the damned trousers and quit fighting him on it..
My legs just love the freedom 😂

Lights on- curtains closed so not too bad.

It’s just Me DD (8 months) and DP in the home so no need to cover up? I’m not in just knickers it’s a vest and boxers, so only arms and legs show. It’s also only during the summer after work or on the odd day chilling in the house.

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d never answer the door like it and it’s my own home.

I find it strange that you don't own shorts.

How does that work? It generally gets really hot at least a few times in the summer- why is this summer so unbearable that you need to wander around in pants, but every other summer of your life was so manageable that you've never even bought shorts ?

( genuinely curious!!!)

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 21:33

@user1493759849 oh god yes I totally forgot I like to strut in front of my open curtained windows in my underwear, got to give the 2 old men taxi drivers a show day to day.

As a teen I thought I couldn’t be seen. It was only when DM shouted up asking if I was getting changed because the man in the shop over the road kept coming to the front of his shop and looking up at my bedroom window that the horror hit me.
I had been trying bras on Blush and the perv in the shop had been coming over so he could get an eyeful of 14 yer old me - shudder.

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 21:35

@IamtheOA I don’t wear shorts outside, I’m actually not comfortable showing that much skin outdoors and Scotlands only really started getting too hot the past 2/3!years but I’ve sweated it out in jeans and trousers for the most part.

Tell him to stick his nose in his dirty laundry. Wear what you fucking want. This should be a no go area for him, next he will be telling you your skirts are too short. He is not your blooming dad.

thecatinthetwat · 21/08/2019 21:44

Honestly op, it’s totally fine. What an odd response you’ve received.

You must go out right away and buy shorts, what kind of person are you Grin

Well you said it. And that's what it sounds like from what you said in your OP. I (and others on here) are only responding to what you are saying. Confused

We get it. You love to parade around in your undies and vest with a taxi rank opposite. We are also entitled to say YABU, and an attention-seeking exhibitionist.

Crunchymum · 21/08/2019 21:55

Where are you that its that hot? Confused

Whateven · 21/08/2019 21:57

@user1493759849 Did you even read the full thread? You know the bit where I’m upstairs? If the lights on my curtains are closed? Also my couch and doors are nowhere near the windows so unless I’m standing doing yoga style stretches at the window I’m pretty sure I’m fine. Pop outside doors and you’ll see people in less clothes on the street.

Attention seeking exhibitionist is going on my CV though Tah

NC- my bad!

In a previous post the OP mentioned Scotland ... I guess the temperature is comparative, it probably is warm compared to normal for them Grin [tongue in cheek as I lived there for ten years and miss the battered haggis ]

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 22:03

Yeah it’s in Scotland, I’m used to mild rainy days, anything above 15 degrees Celsius kinda sits uncomfortably and since LO was born I burn super hot.

Just buy proper clothes that are comfortable for lounging around in and aren't revealing. Confused

Fatted · 21/08/2019 22:06

YANBU

I'm honestly surprised by home many people are actually agreeing with your DP! Yet so many times on bloody MN it's declared men are controlling for telling the woman what to wear.

In the comfort of your own home, wear whatever the fuck you want. Tell him to jog on.

I do slouch around the house from time to time in a vest and my pants. Usually the vest or t-shirt is long enough to cover my arse. I wouldn't answer the door like that, but if I'm just chilling out I really don't see what's wrong it?!

user1493759849 · 21/08/2019 22:10

@DeadSouth / @Whateven

Yeah I did read your drip feed when you weren't getting the answers you want, saying you keep the curtains closed. Never mentioned that in your OP!

And it's not CONTROLLING for a man to suggest you should not be parading around in the lounge (in full view of a taxi rank!) in your bloody vest and knickers!

Quartz2208 · 21/08/2019 22:13

You have an odd attitude you won’t wear a bikini shorts or one assumes dressed outside so you don’t wear clothes inside

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 22:14

@user1493759849
I didn’t call it controlling. Wasn’t an intentional drip feed, was providing more detail and it’s been pretty 50/50 so I’m not not getting the answers I want. If anything I’m getting exactly what I want. A clear view of how DP feels in contrast to how I feel.

Also again not in full view of a taxi rank, calm yourself.

OP posts:
Dmacka75 · 21/08/2019 22:15

Why should you have to wear shorts when you're not comfortable in them?
I walk about nude quite often and would not be happy with my husband telling me to cover up

phoenixrosehere · 21/08/2019 22:17

Yanbu

It’s your home too and you should be able to wear whatever you want that makes you feel comfortable in your home.

Everything else is irrelevant. Why does your dh care so much?

DeadSouth · 21/08/2019 22:20

@Quartz2208 I’m comfortable wearing what I want with my partner or on my own is all 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
JockTamsonsBairns · 21/08/2019 22:26

Wait, you're in Scotland and the summer weather is so hot that you can't bear to wear any clothes?? ShockGrin

ReanimatedSGB · 21/08/2019 22:28

Tell him, once and for all, that you are comfortable wearing what you currently wear, that you have heard his opinion but don't agree with it, and the matter is not up for further discussion. It's your body, not his, and how much of it you choose to show or cover is up to you, not him.

It is never ever up to a partner to tell you to cover yourself, and a man telling a woman to wear more clothes than she wishes in order to be 'respectful'... that's a red flag and you need to be very firm with him that your body is not his property. If he gets angry or aggressive about your refusal to obey him, that's a pretty good indicator that you need to dump him.

weliveinapigsty · 21/08/2019 22:35

I'm in Scotland and put the heating on at the weekend - and I got my Big Dressing Gown out. So I'm pretty jealous of wherever you are in this miserable place.
