I've tried

Lucifer- didn't like it
Stranger Things - loved it
Handmaid's tale - amazing
The Good Place - probably love it too much
Poldark - Aiden Turner is my perfect man, so may be biased, but so good
Being Human - see above
Shameless - lol
House - one of my favourites and one I go back to
GOT - the ending though?
The Kominsky Method - very well done
The OA - amazing
That one with Richard Gere - pah, dragged out

I'm sure there's tons more, but I need some inspiration. I do like a bit of action and drama.

For AIBU purposes, AIBU to ask for inspiration (here for the traffic as I want to start now).

Good Omens would fit into your list. It's very quirky and amusing. Also Call My Agent, french, also quirky and amusing.

Passionaria · 22/08/2019 07:58

Ripper Street - dark and a bit violent at times but entertaining if you let go of today's reality and put yourself in the characters' world.
Shetland
Fosse/Verdon - a limited series with Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell at their best
My sister enjoyed both Orphan Black and The Americans

Not action at all, but family comedy/drama, Bonus Family. It’s Swedish, 3 seasons on Netflix. Two hetero couples split. Bloke from one partners up with woman of the other. We follow the lives of these 4 main characters and their families. Bonus family is what we’d called step families or blended families.
It’s low key, well observed, well played and absorbing. I liked it cos it’s very recognisable, people have ordinary jobs, family life is at once infuriating and joyful, sexual relationships fraught and fulfilling.
The characters of the two therapists are really well drawn and funny.
I have to say, I generally choose films/books/tv in which nothing much appears to happen, everything is low key.

I can't believe no-one has suggested narcos! Bloody brilliant TV.

And chetnobyl is a must too. The podcast was brilliant too, there's one episode for every episode and it made the series for me.

NavyBlueHue · 22/08/2019 08:48

New Amsterdam

waggydog21 · 22/08/2019 09:18

Netflix:
Castlevania - it takes a while to get going but is a good cartoon, dark and a little violent but really entertaining.
The let down
Brooklyn 99 if you haven’t seen that
North and South (the Elizabeth Gaskell one), Richard Armitage is just lovely (also he’s in castlevania, I might have a problem..)
Salem, it’s weird and horrible but strangely addicting

Amazon
Just echoing everyone else and saying good omens. Brilliant.

Catastrophe

sparkysdream · 22/08/2019 19:16

Good Omens on Amazon prime, was surprised to get to last page before someone suggested it.
Also Years and Years

SheChoseDown · 22/08/2019 21:45

Travellers. Remember Will and Grace? He's the star ❤️. It's about people's minds travelling from the future into bodies of people who are about to die. To save the world from the shit in the shitty future.
Its amazing. I'm sure there are 3 seasons now. Amazing characters and cast, good story and its interesting.

AwdBovril · 22/08/2019 21:49

Penny Dreadful

IamtheOA · 22/08/2019 21:55

I keep saying it, in hopes someone will watch it...
Ku'Damm 56. Best thing ever....

Marvellous Mrs Maisel

Designated Survivor

Anne with an E

LannieDuck · 22/08/2019 22:27

More votes for:

Good wife - really good legal drama
Travellers - as prev PP have said, time travel. But as you get into it, they start to question whether they're still working for the good guys, because the future has changed so much. Interesting stuff.

Also, have you ever watched The Wire?

Chickoletta · 22/08/2019 22:28

Bodyguard
This is Us
Outlander

LannieDuck · 22/08/2019 22:29

Also, the first season of 3%. South American (I think?) Hunger Games-esque.

LannieDuck · 22/08/2019 22:30

Oh, and how could I forget The Expanse?!

If you like Sci-fi, it's great. And based on a book, so good plot.
