As inusing the correct floss or teepee for each tooth gap size? And if so how regularly? Daily? Twice daily?

Philips Airfloss thingy here, love it, and my gum scores have improved massively since using it. I have teeth that seem to like to hold on to things, especially seeds from bread and it's very satisfying blasting it all out.

speakout · 14/01/2020 12:20

I floss several times a day- but just one or two places where food gets stuck

Equanimitas · 14/01/2020 12:20

I'm like Baaaahhhhh, I can't physically get floss between my teeth and if I try it makes me gag, but me teeth are actually pretty good.

HoldMyLobster · 14/01/2020 12:21

I’m in the US - saw the dentist and hygienist yesterday morning. They checked my teeth and gums and told me all is good and carry on as I am.

I floss my teeth about once a month.

Plsnomorepeppapig · 14/01/2020 12:26

Every evening before brushing - I use Wisdom fresh burst expanding floss - only Morrison’s seems to sell it (sometimes) so I order from eBay. It’s the only floss that I find works. It’s great. I’d feel disgusting if I haven’t flossed - I went away for a weekend a while ago and forgot to take some and I lay in bed thinking of all the food between my teeth and almost lost my mind.

wishingyouluck · 14/01/2020 12:28

I use a waterpik as have fixed retainers so flossing a nightmare - it's probably not as good but so easy for anyone that can't be bothered with floss!

FinallyHere · 14/01/2020 13:29

It could well be that tooth condition is genetic! The big difference for me is in how close teeth are together. ExP had really excellent teeth with very small gaps between them so that the bristles of a toothbrush could get in between to clean all the surfaces. He hardly ever flossed but could pass the 'disclosing tablet' test with ease.

My teeth are smaller but more crowded in my mouth. No matter how throughly I brush, chewing a disclosing tablet afterwards shows up lots of gunk between my teeth. So I do floss daily (at night after brushing). Assuming I've not eaten anything since last floss I only brush in the morning.

My teeth have got much better since I started flossing. As I child I had loads of fillings.

dottypotter · 14/01/2020 15:48

im supposed to floss everyday but im confused do you floss twice or once and when. I also use mouthwash. Dentist said use it 10 mins after you have brushed teeth. How often do you floss though?

Also when you have cleaned your teeth at night is it ok to drink tea before you go to sleep?

SmellMySmellbow · 14/01/2020 20:24

@dottypotter Once, at night. And no nothing but water between tooth brushing and sleep. No tea.

HowManyToes · 14/01/2020 21:31

I’m in the middle of having my teeth straightened with Invisalign. I floss and brush about five times a day 😂

FromEden · 14/01/2020 21:38

I do! Thanks to having invisalign and having to brush and floss after every meal. Dont have them anymore but still floss at least twice a day. Brushing doesn't remove all the little bits of food that gets between your teeth.

Teensruletheroost · 15/01/2020 07:42

I don’t floss as I find it difficult with a small mouth but have just ordered a water flosser as a result of this thread.

I find it hard to get into new habits but will do my best.

Thelnebriati · 15/01/2020 11:16

If you have sensitive teeth, use your flosser with warm water. I use water from the kettle and lug it upstairs in a thermos.

IAmNotYourSlave · 15/01/2020 11:25

I had never even heard of flossing until I was 40, (just assumed it was an American thing) I am now 49 and try to floss once a day, but I can only do the front teeth, there are no gaps in the others and I cannot get anything in them.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2020 13:03

IAmNotYourSlave

Haven't you been you been to the dentist recently?

BertieBotts · 15/01/2020 13:08

I do, not flossing is like showering but not washing your armpits or between your legs.

I admit some days I skip but I try to do it regularly. I am saving up for a water one.

BertieBotts · 15/01/2020 13:10

You shouldn't drink tea after brushing no, but if you have it black without sugar it's not too bad. It will stain over time though. The only think you should drink after tooth brushing is water (or breast milk, but I'm assuming you don't drink that in your tea :o)

blubberball · 15/01/2020 13:14

Flossing is satisfying.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2020 13:17

I am saving up for a water one

You still need to floss even if you use a water or air jet one.

Sceptre86 · 15/01/2020 13:20

I floss every day, twice a day and use mouthwash. I used to have bleeding gums and have noticed that this very rarely happens now I take better care of my teeth. My dentist is great with nervous patients like me so I actually do attend appointments unlike when I was younger and didn't.

IAmNotYourSlave · 15/01/2020 15:52

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

why? I go to the dentist every 6 months, always have done. My old dentist never mentioned flossing to me at all, a new one has taken over and they are more up to date

MonstranceClock · 15/01/2020 15:54

I don’t floss. Never had any issues with my teeth though.

HoldMyLobster · 15/01/2020 16:03

I'm in the US and our various dentists/hygienists no longer talk to us about whether or not we floss. They used to ask every time, now they don't.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2020 16:20

IAmNotYourSlave

Every dentist over been to had always benefits on about closing, even in the waiting room they're were posters saying 'floss the teeth you want to keep.'

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2020 16:33
