As inusing the correct floss or teepee for each tooth gap size? And if so how regularly? Daily? Twice daily?

I tepe every night as it's easier than flossing. If I miss a night or two my gums bleed until I get back in routine and they stop being spongy again

limitedperiodonly · 20/08/2019 22:13

It takes two minutes a day and saves a world of pain. And you can do it while watching the telly.

HelloyouKant · 20/08/2019 22:14

Literally never

ComeOnGordon · 20/08/2019 22:14

Floss every night before brushing. Have been doing it for maybe 7 or 8 years - it’s made such a difference to my gums

Leftiefterson · 20/08/2019 22:17

Floss with the little wand things daily. I feel gross if I don’t.

SinglePringle · 20/08/2019 22:17

I LOVE flossing, it’s so satisfying!

Every night, getting right in there!

cushioncovers · 20/08/2019 22:18

Yep floss or use interdental brushes everyday. I've tried only doing it once a week but the brushes stink when I do so obviously bits get trapped and begin to smell.

HoorayItsToday · 20/08/2019 22:18

I've never flossed!! I am 40, have no fillings and no tooth problems and never had more than a check up at the dentist! My dentist always tells me how well I look after my teeth! Don't have the heart to tell her I've never flossed!

My DH flosses everyday! He also watches how much tea and coffee he drinks etc.. and really looks after his teeth, but they are stained and wonky and he's always told when he sees the dentist that he needs to look after them better!

I think basically that tooth condition is genetic! Flossing or not flossing seems to make little difference to anything!! Dentists tell you otherwise though and seem pretty wedded to the idea that flossing is close to godliness

limitedperiodonly · 20/08/2019 22:19

I'm wrong there. It takes about a minute. And to those people who say their dentists can't tell - they can, they're just diplomatic and good at holding their breath and staring into the abyss.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 20/08/2019 22:20

I really recommend a Waterpik for those who struggle with ordinary floss. It's like a pressure washer for your teeth. It blasts out any visible bits of food between your teeth, and presumably all the invisible gunk as well. You're left feeling really zingy. If I miss it for a day now my mouth feels not properly clean, even after a thorough brush.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 20/08/2019 22:22

I floss a couple of times a week in all honesty as I’m just so tired at the end of the day. I floss then brush, is that wrong? It feels weird to clean your teeth and then release a load more dirt with floss without then brushing again.
I went to hygienist today and was done in 10 mins as she didn’t need to do much. No fillings, she said I have healthy gums although so did say a 3 & 4 when checking my gums which is the worst I’ve ever had!! My teeth are really close together so has to be floss, although I can’t say I’ve ever noticed anyone with teeth so gappy they would be able to fit those interdental brushes between them... I just can’t imagine how it’s possible!!

MiniMum97 · 20/08/2019 22:23

I do. Twice a day. I use 3 different sized teepees for he back teeth. Plus a special plastic floss for around my implant. I then floss the front teeth with normal floss. Sounds a lot but I am v quick at it and don't think about it as am in a routine. I don't mind the teepee and flossing. It's brushing I find super boring and difficult.

Missanneshirley · 20/08/2019 22:23

Is there anything you can floss with that isn't disposable? I mean obv it would need replacing like a brush, but i am throwing out so many of these wee floss stick things it seems v wasteful

hawleybits · 20/08/2019 22:23

Floss and interdental brushes of varying sizes. I like to dip the little brushes in toothpaste before use, it's very satisfying. Also discovered, it's easy to reach better between back teeth from inside - sounds awkward but isn't.

notso · 20/08/2019 22:24

I always floss. I have this weird thing where I feel really claustrophobic if I can't push air through my front teeth.
I use harps at the front and interdental brushes at the back.
Have never heard of a tepe so will google ASAP.

MiniMum97 · 20/08/2019 22:26

@Biancadelrioisback you don't need to throw them away after every use. They can last a number of weeks - they are just like a small toothbrush and you don't change that daily. I change them when they start to feel a bit thin. You just rinse them like a toothbrush after use.

FlorencesHunger · 20/08/2019 22:28

I use a water jet flosser once per day before bed, if I dont use it after a few days I can feel the gums getting irritated. Love seeing the gunk come out.

raspberryk · 20/08/2019 22:42

I can't get floss between the majority of my teeth, so I've never really bothered. I always wondered who flossed, no one in real life only mum's net it seems.
I am 32 with a full set, no fillings, no gum disease.
Btw what the hell is spongy gums?!

panticus · 20/08/2019 22:43

Daily, without fail. I think I've maybe missed flossing 5 days in the last 15 years? I use a device called a Flossmate which is amazing and I recommend them to everyone. My dentist bills are very cheap now - always get a clean bill of health Grin

Pretendapony · 20/08/2019 22:48

I’ve never been a flosser and you’ve all inspired me! Just did it and made my gums bleed so I really think I need to do it daily! Really struggled getting to my back teeth (especially wisdom teeth) but I’ve only got normal floss.

Blibbyblobby · 20/08/2019 22:50

Every morning. I use silk floss, because it’s biodegradable. The standard stuff isn’t.

I used an air floss thing for a while but it’s nothing like as thorough as actual floss.

Zenithbear · 20/08/2019 22:52

Every day and brush 3 times a day. My dad is 80 and only has two real teeth left so he's my inspiration.

JazzyGG · 20/08/2019 22:59

I am addicted to flossing love it! I can't figure those fiddly little brushes out. However having been told by my dentist for the last few years my teeth are great and I don't need to see a hygienist I've recently become beset with problems and new dentist says I have a lot of tartar build up which is irritating my gums and I need regular hygienist treatment. I am very cross.

ScabbyHorse · 20/08/2019 23:00

About once every 17 days

helacells · 20/08/2019 23:02

Floss doesn't cut it anymore. Dentists are now recommending waterpik instead. Makes a HUGE difference. I can always tell when someone doesn't floss, the odor of plaque and rotting food is enough to wipe out a small village. Don't kid yourself, if you don't floss, your breath stinks. Guaranteed.
