As inusing the correct floss or teepee for each tooth gap size? And if so how regularly? Daily? Twice daily?

OP posts:
JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 21/08/2019 09:38

I use the satin tape every evening although I brush after flossing - is that the wrong way round??

I can't use the teepee type things as my teeth are so tight together they won't go in. Sometimes I can't even get the tape in!

Teeth always feel cleaner after flossing.

yeahokright · 21/08/2019 09:56

Yes morning and night. I thought most did! Confused

firstimemamma · 21/08/2019 09:58

Every evening before I brush my teeth. Just regular floss.

BertieBotts · 21/08/2019 16:28

I do, I notice the difference since I didn't though.

DH gets the same "You must floss, well done" comments even though he doesn't Envy

YesQueen · 21/08/2019 16:43

This thread has made me order a water flosser Blush

MitziK · 23/08/2019 17:41

My hygienist says it doesn't matter which order you do it, as long as you do, because either way, you're getting the stuff out from just under your gumline.

However, she does also say that waterpiks can't break up the biofilm and it takes a physical brush or floss to do that.

After this thread, I actually went and looked at some more dental care stuff. I needed to get some more interdental brushes anyway and I was nearly out of toothpaste, but I got one of the individual tuft brushes, as a couple of mine are slightly crooked, and I realised it's much easier to get to the backs of my molars and the bits where even floss is difficult to get in with it.

Dongdingdong · 24/08/2019 07:38

I floss every night before I go to bed. Not much point flossing in the morning as I don’t eat anything while I’m asleep!

Eesha · 14/01/2020 10:38

Just reading about the waterpik and people have complained about battery lives. Can anyone give thoughts on whether countertops are better? I never floss as teeth are bit crowded and I'm slack!

LucaFritz · 14/01/2020 10:44

I can never get the floss or brushes between my teeth so gave up on them ages ago. I do brush 3 times a day and use corsodyl though so my teeth are fine they're just too tightly packed together to get anything in between them

SoundofSilence · 14/01/2020 10:52

I use a water flosser once a day. I've been told it's not as good as proper floss but I hate using proper floss so I know I'd soon stop doing it again. At least this way part of the job gets done.

Bloomburger · 14/01/2020 10:56

I use the brushes then an air floss with hydrogen peroxide solution in it every day.

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 11:27

I floss every evening before I brush my teeth. I find it's better to floss before brushing because then I can brush anything flossed out away from my teeth :) I have very good teeth so I like to think it's served me well.

Ariela · 14/01/2020 11:52

I confess to giving up on flossing, there are literally no gaps between teeth, dentist says my mouth is overcrowded despite having teeth removed as a child (small jaw). I either cannot get floss in between and it breaks or I shove it so hard I end up cutting the gum when it finally pings through. I do us interdental brushes from time to time, but again limited where I can get them in. Upside I suppose nothing is trapped in there?

SmellMySmellbow · 14/01/2020 11:53

I use a waterpik water flosser once a day. Unearths all kinds of crap.

Thelnebriati · 14/01/2020 11:54

I treated myself to a water flosser and its amazing. I use it now before I brush, then I rinse and floss with a bit of toothpaste.

TuppenceDarling · 14/01/2020 11:56

I’m all about the TeePee! Changed my dental health

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/01/2020 11:56

I use different sized interdental brushes for the various tooth gaps, then I have a tiny edge brush, followed by two minutes with the electric toothbrushes. Do that twice a day.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 11:57

Yes quite do daily with floss.

Even if you use a water pick or air jet you still need to floss. It's not a replacement for flossing.

berlinbabylon · 14/01/2020 11:59

I don't use floss, I use the tipi brushes. The ones on a long handle last quite well and don't bend so quickly. I use the blue size which more or less fits all my teeth so I don't have use several different sizes.

Floss/tape doesn't work well enough for me, and it also shreds too easily.

Snidpan · 14/01/2020 12:00

I diligently used those little wire brushes for 8 months, and at the next visit, my dentist said "you really need to use those little wire brushes". So they'd done nothing. "OK", I said, and went home and binned them.

pigsDOfly · 14/01/2020 12:05

I use both interdental brushes and floss and then brush - electric brush - every night before bed.

Brush in the morning obviously, but like pp, I don't floss in the morning as I haven't eaten over night.

Lockheart · 14/01/2020 12:08

I have permanent retainers glued to the back of my teeth so flossing with tape is not possible for me. I use an interdental brush where my teeth allow!

JellyfishandShells · 14/01/2020 12:12

My hygienist says the order should be flossing, water pik, then brushing. She has also ( more than once ) shown me how to floss properly , right down to the gum line. I have really narrow gaps between my teeth and the interdental brushes are very difficult for me.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 14/01/2020 12:13

However, she does also say that waterpiks can't break up the biofilm and it takes a physical brush or floss to do that.

I was told this, but I only use the waterpik and toothbrush, no floss or interdental brush. I had a checkup a few days ago and was complimented on the standard of my gum and interdental cleanliness.

The jet from the waterpik seems very powerful to me. Drawing analogies with my patio, the pressure washer shifts grime in seconds that would take three minutes of scrubbing with a brush Grin

Baaaahhhhh · 14/01/2020 12:17

I have tried a few times, but find it really difficult to get the floss between my teeth. I must also have a small mouth, because I can't get my fingers in far enough without gagging. I use a sonic toothbrush, so think that probably does the job? Also never seen an hygenist, and dentist has never suggested it, so I assume I am OK.

DM is 92 and has all her own teeth, no gaps, never flossed in her life. Fingers crossed for me then Grin.
