As inusing the correct floss or teepee for each tooth gap size? And if so how regularly? Daily? Twice daily?

OP posts:
madcatladyforever · 20/08/2019 23:03

Everyday twice a day or my breath would be rancid.

4strings · 20/08/2019 23:08

I don’t floss Blush. Makes me feel physically sick. Weirdly though my hygienist always congratulates me on how well I floss Hmm

MitziK · 20/08/2019 23:14

@raspberryk, all my teeth are perfect. Including the one that the emergency dentist pinged out of my jaw on a Sunday morning with less pressure than you use to open a fizzy drink (and then she opened the abscess stretching along my jaw).

Spongy gums are when they are a little soft and, well, spongy, rather than firm. It's a stage in gum disease - the one where flossing is a little bit uncomfortable and you might see a little bit of blood or pinkness on the floss.

Autoimmune diseases are shit. And their treatments aren't that much better in some respects.

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 20/08/2019 23:15

I use tepee brushes.

Waterpik does nothing. I have one and it definitely is more cosmetic than practical.

BlueCornsihPixie · 20/08/2019 23:17

I do it everyday!

Honestly if you aren't flossing you are missing 40% of your tooth surface, plaque is just pure gunk and bacteria so you are just leaving all that shite between your teeth. It's really gross. You woudltn shower and only wash one armpit

It takes 24 hrs for plaque to cause gum inflammation. So needs doing daily. You floss to prevent gum disease, inflammation leads to perio disease

Get yourself an ID brush, push it between your teeth and then smell it. Then floss daily Grin

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 20/08/2019 23:18

Don't kid yourself, if you don't floss, your breath stinks. Guaranteed.

This is ridiculous Grin

(From someone who flosses daily.)

BelgianWhistles · 20/08/2019 23:21

I floss and tepe most days. If I’m in a rush, I might skip it, but I do try to stay on top of it. I only started doing it a couple of years ago and I can really see the difference compared to before.

Motherofacat · 20/08/2019 23:22

I floss every day. I use the oral b mint tape one. I'm a bit weird about my teeth though as had recurring nightmares about them falling out as a kid.

crazycatgal · 20/08/2019 23:25

I floss every day, my teeth are really close together so I'm not sure I'd get the brushes in there.

ZincOxideEugenol · 20/08/2019 23:27

I Tepe everyday. Not necessarily when I brush my teeth though. I keep one in my handbag and one in my car so I'll often Tepe while sat in traffic.

Flurgle · 20/08/2019 23:29

I think you can get away with it till 40s/50s a bit. Then you have to get the little brushes out. I really want to keep my teeth and they aren’t great so just suck it up.

Passthecherrycoke · 20/08/2019 23:49

I really agree flurgle- I think you can get away with it until middle age hits! If water piks are that good why don’t hygienists use them for your professional clean? They use floss usually (after all the scale and polish equipment obv)

My teeth are all too close together for brushes but floss is fine. Last time I tried a brush it snapped off in my teeth and I had to floss it out, it felt gross

Bambamber · 20/08/2019 23:53

I use the brushes and floss daily. I use 4 different sized brushes and then floss. I never used to, but since starting my gum health has improved

BeanBag7 · 21/08/2019 01:29

I bought the inter dental brushes but even the tiniest ones weren't event close to fitting between my teeth Sad
I hate flossing and can never work out the right action that doesnt just put the stuff right back again where it came from so I would really like to be able to use the brushes. I must just have freakishly close-packed teeth Confused

CucinaBreakfast · 21/08/2019 01:54

The smallest interdental brushes didn't fit between my teeth at first and they made my gums bleed. That's normal (dentist told me to expect it), you need to keep at it. My gums don't bleed now and the brushes fit easily.

penguingorl · 21/08/2019 02:48

Very rarely remember, and hadn't been worried as hardly anything on floss on odd occasion I actually do it. However, this thread has convinced me that I probably have rancid breath so have just ordered myself a variety pack of hepe brushes Grin

Drum2018 · 21/08/2019 03:54

Floss, use 2 sizes of tepe brushes, brush and use mouthwash most nights. Just brush in mornings.

Propertyofhood · 21/08/2019 09:07

Yes same here. And sometimes it gets stuck between my teeth and I panic and think ill never get it out again! It does smell though so I know there is bacteria in there...

The interdental brushes I hated - they are made of sharp metal wire in the middle, I feel like that can be good to be rubbing near your gums! Plus I didn't have a hope of getting them between my teeth without doing some serious damage! Am I doing it wrong?

Might go upstairs and dig out one of my 50 packs of floss that I buy straight after every dentist appointment! 😂

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 21/08/2019 09:21

I am another one can't get floss in-between my teeth. I also have a small mouth, and honestly, I can't get my fingers in the back of my mouth without gagging.

On the occassions when I try, after a meal of ribs for example, the floss breaks and gets stuck, and then it is really difficult to get out.

I go to the dentist annually, have never been to a hygenist, and have perfect teeth and gums.

Passthecherrycoke · 21/08/2019 09:23

If you go to a hygienist Arthur they’ll show you how to do it.

I have never heard of a hygienist unable to use floss on a customer so although it is tricky (my teeth are v close together and it’s taken a lot of practise) it is possible

Propertyofhood · 21/08/2019 09:27

I like the idea of the Waterpik but a) they are kind of expensive and b) I feel like they would get manky and limescaled up quite quickly?

JellyfishAndShells · 21/08/2019 09:28

Daily flossing and usually daily waterpik. I have a lovely hygienist who I could not lie to ( she would be invaluable at criminal interrogations) and an implant that cost the equivalent of a reasonable second hand car so that focusses the mind on taking very good care.

sheshootssheimplores · 21/08/2019 09:28

I use this one and it’s fab

I live in a very hard water area and am usually fighting limescale off everything but have not experienced any problems with the waterpik at all. I don’t leave water standing in the tank but I usually use it all up in a session anyway.

TheRobotsAreComing · 21/08/2019 09:36

I floss once/brush twice per day. And floss first. Flossing after brushing doesn't makes sense to me.
