The knives are out for the royal family

It may be deserved in some cases, however it would seem the gloves are off as far as the media are concerned. They have lived high on the hog for centuries so what is new?

Am scratching my head here is it shoot the royal family season or a smoke and mirrors exercise designed to distract us from something more important??

I would hate to be in the PR business with the RF just now.

Absolutely cedar leaf. So many millions of people in UK working crazy hours on zero hour contracts in shitty conditions. This elevation of privileged ( very unremarkable) people has had its day. We can and should be able to discuss this openly without fear of reprisals. We do not live in the Tudor times. Our heads will not be placed on spikes outside the tower. ( But our threads on mumsnet might be exterminated)

Confusedbeetle · 19/08/2019 17:07

Prince Andrew has been implicated years ago in the sex with underage girls and it has been glossed over. The Epstein scandal has revived it. No royal bashing just an investigation. He should not be exempt. The girl was 17 and procured

SeriouslyEnoughAlreadyRantOver · 19/08/2019 17:08

I'd love to see Will and Kate holidaying around the country to promote tourism and encourage visitors.

That would be a refreshing change from their luxury Caribbean and luxury ski resorts holidays Grin

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 17:08

bit harsh, some of us like "Suits"

Filmed in Toronto.

I am getting bored of the attacks against Meghan.

Well, nobody is obliged to entertain you! And referring to something as 'attacks' is a way to dismiss all scrutiny of someone who enjoys a massively luxurious lifestyle at our expense. Meghan knew what she was getting into when she chose to marry into the world's most famous family and certainly isn't shy about courting publicity. So she's going to have to accept that not everyone is going to fawn over her.

We still have freedom of speech here, however much that 'bores' you.

NeelixFelicis · 19/08/2019 17:10

I really do like the Queen. She's been steadfast & performed the job she never asked for very well, and for a very long time.

But, once she shifts off this mortal coil, I'd happily see the RF disbanded, and them all go and live as private citizens.

King Charles as head of the monarchy just feels like a pretty bleak future for it.
-Charles' mentor Mountbatten and his alleged proclivity for check the news, I don't want this to be deleted ,
-his well-known interfering in government matters purely to suit personal agenda

  • his Brother being in the pockets of a sexual predator, and possibly having participated in the acts himself

Not to mention the hypocrisy of PH & MM and their carbon footprint preaching, while taking two private jets in a week.

And all the talk about Fergie and PA wanting to remarry now, after 20yrs divorced seems rather odd.
In completely unrelated news, a husband or wife cannot be compelled by court to testify against their spouse, can they?

managedmis · 19/08/2019 17:11

YANBU. I smell a rat...

Or just Andy

SeriouslyEnoughAlreadyRantOver · 19/08/2019 17:11

IcedPurple

yes, in Toronto, why?

Freedom of speech doesn't allow abuse, racist and vile attacks. The Monarchy has absolutely no place in these days and age, but the personal abuse against Meghan are unacceptable, and frankly embarrassing.

Call them all a waste of space if you want, but no need to because so vicious. WHen I say "you", I mean the general haters, not you as a specific poster.

Pamplemousecat · 19/08/2019 17:11

@Doyoureallyneedtoask. A classic example of reading what you want. I write H and M and you delete H and just read M. Oh my god someone is picking on Meghan again!!!!!! No I said both of them. I also expressed my displeasure in degrees, which doesn’t mean I have never been displeased , but that I am now more displeased. It’s the fake wokeness and hypocritical eco warrior displays. This push pull of wanting to be celebs at the publics’ cost but pushing us out when it suits.

dworky · 19/08/2019 17:14

Hopefully more people will wake up to the reality. They can't really complain, they've had a good (privileged) run.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 17:16

yes, in Toronto, why?

Why? My point being that America offered her nothing but the role of briefcase girl, and nobody there gave a toss about her until she got with dumb Harry.

Freedom of speech doesn't allow abuse, racist and vile attacks.

And... we're off. All criticism of St. Meghan, patron saint of faux wokeness, dismissed in advance. Never mind that not one person here has done any of the above. If they had, their posts would have been deleted, and you know it.

Call them all a waste of space if you want, but no need to because so vicious. WHen I say "you", I mean the general haters, not you as a specific poster.

"Haters" is another infantile term used to dismiss views you disagree with.

And I'm not responsible for what anyone else says. I'm only responsible for what I say. And I will continue to criticise Meghan, Harry, Andrew and any other member of this freeloading clan as much as I wish, however 'boring' it may be for you.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 19/08/2019 17:16

Harry was never criticised before he married. Obviously people’s real issue is with Meghan despite their protestations claiming otherwise. Some people find fault with every single thing the woman does from her trousers being too long to using a private jet. Nothing is said of the £27K a week chalet Kate and William spent on their holiday.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 17:19

Harry was never criticised before he married.

Quite. The press had absolutely nothing to see about his donning a Nazi costume, his naked shenanigans in Las Vegas, or his use of a certain term to describe one of his comrades in arms of South Asian descent.

No, absolutely nothing at all. Not a word.

BrendasUmbrella · 19/08/2019 17:21

But even I'm now thinking "Jesus wept, what are you doing????"

I agree with you. The media are running a hate campaign against Harry and Meghan (well, Meghan with Harry as collateral damage) but the couple keep giving them new stories to chew on. It was very tone deaf of Harry to announce he and Meghan would only have two dc's, right after William and Kate had their third. not to mention that having two dc's puts them in line with the average in the UK, it's hardly a big sacrifice.

Ibiza2015 · 19/08/2019 17:21

The BBC lunchtime made it their headline re: Andrew and Epstein. which set off my thinking, tabloids print everything and everything when the BBC say something I sit up and notice.

It always makes me giggle people say ‘oh I don’t believe the tabloids’ when as far as the RF are concerned they’re absolutely bang on for almost everything.

Re Epstein, this isn’t the first time the royals have been taken in by a predatory paedophile. They were very, very chummy with Savile too.

QualCheckBot · 19/08/2019 17:21

DoYouReally Harry was never criticised before he married.

Well, apart from the time he dressed up as a …. and was criticised all over the press for it. And the time he was naked and photographed.

I think he was very protected while he was young from the worst press due to respect for his mother.

With the whole RF, it just seems to be a series of one scandal after another (with the exception of the Queen), with blatant flouting of privilege.

If PC were going to be popular as King, she would have abdicated by now. Most likely PC will abdicate quickly and lead a quiet life away from the limelight as much as possible and the quiet and slightly boring Cambridges will take over.

hereforasillygoosetime · 19/08/2019 17:21

@joyfullittlehippo YOU are the one who hijacked the thread by bringing race into it.

Heartofgoldheadofcabbage · 19/08/2019 17:22

I would love for Harry and Meghan to be free of the Royal Family and their restrictions. They would be able to better defend themselves and challenge the lies told about them.
They would be free to champion what they wanted and not be dragged down by current and future scandals
They are more popular than William and Kate who although restricted by their future future roles do not seem to have the same passion to champion successfully any particular causes.
Meghan was established and successful before she met Harry in terms of charity, humanitarian projects and earnings, she has tried to continue this and been vilified.
Grenfel Cookbook
clothes for getting people back into work.
The bakery for battered women
The charities that benefit and continue to do so following the global Sussex baby shower..

The usual tabloid rubbish been trotted out that fools so easily believe, fgs Google is your friend, before some of you belive what you read in the papers and from the likes of Piers Morgan, the Daily Heil, ITV, loose women, Jeremy Vine etc do your own homework; for example;
The company H&M fly privately with have compulsory carbon footprint offset in place.
Private holidays are paid for by the individuals (security by the crown estates)
Quite complicated to explain but ‘our’ taxes do not pay for the refurb on Harry&Meghan home (crown estates, queens building earmarked for refurb, bla bla bla)
They didn’t demand privacy, just refused for their child Archie to be monetised (as a private citizen without a title)
Refused to whore themselves to the disgusting, toxic, racist press.

So so much more.

Meghan is repeatedly thrown under the bus to distract for other stories about the RF and the state of UK politics...she sells papers as idiots keep buying them and believing the BS.

We are a laughing stock across the commonwealth and to the rest of the world. I for one am embarrassed and ashamed to be British.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 17:23

It always makes me giggle people say ‘oh I don’t believe the tabloids’ when as far as the RF are concerned they’re absolutely bang on for almost everything.

The tabloids may be tacky but they often have very good sources, and very good lawyers. Especially important when dealing with the RF. Which isn't to say they're always right by any means, but more often than not they likely are. Everyone dismissed the rumours of a rift between Charles and Di back in the day, but they turned out to be quite an understatement.

Weebitawks · 19/08/2019 17:23

What's the country coming to if the Royal family can't even hang around with known sex offenders/paedophiles/rapists and not have people going on about ir

Wehttam · 19/08/2019 17:24

Is there a pattern here

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 17:25

I would love for Harry and Meghan to be free of the Royal Family and their restrictions.

I too - along with an increasing number of others - would be overjoyed if they renounced all their titles, diplomatic priviliges, taxpayer funding and all the very many other perks that go with royal status and live as private citizens.

But we all know they never will.

Pamplemousecat · 19/08/2019 17:28

@Heartofgoldheadofcabbage

I think you for one being delighted if M and H were “ free of RF” would probably be more accurately millions of people. Delighted to see the back of them. Oh but hang on would M have been interested in H if it weren’t for his RH title. Probably not.

SeriouslyEnoughAlreadyRantOver · 19/08/2019 17:28

IcedPurple
hopefully freedom of speech doesn't protect "you" individual or general for making vicious comments about real people.
Racists or not.

You are not as anonymous as you think you are.

The personal attacks against the York sisters were just as bad, but this is taking a ridiculous level.

You are right, there are a lot of better words than haters to describe the idiots who have so much bile to spread about somebody's appearance, pregnancy and invent
To be fair, Kate was also accused of using a surrogate, most of the hatred is just recycled nonsense. It doesn't make it right.

WHY does it matter if Meghan work on a show btw? It make you sound very bitter to look down at her for it, it's pathetic. Yes, she had a role in a show filmed in Toronto, among the rest of the cast. What's embarrassing about that exactly?

Your childish bitterness is boring.

SeriouslyEnoughAlreadyRantOver · 19/08/2019 17:30

Oh but hang on would M have been interested in H if it weren’t for his RH title. Probably not.

would Kate, Sophie, and any of the others be interested?
Would Diana, even, despite from being from a much better background herself?
probably not - about Diana, we'll never know.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 19/08/2019 17:31

More tripe from the ‘We don’t hate hate Meghan’ brigade.

Harry dressed up FOURTEEN years ago! He was in the news again over Vegas. Nothing like the venom he has had since he married. If he had married Cressida Bonas, people would never have been as outraged but the audacity to marry an American ^actress’.
