The knives are out for the royal family

It may be deserved in some cases, however it would seem the gloves are off as far as the media are concerned. They have lived high on the hog for centuries so what is new?

Am scratching my head here is it shoot the royal family season or a smoke and mirrors exercise designed to distract us from something more important??

I would hate to be in the PR business with the RF just now.

No, I do.
Yet somehow she doesn’t get people quite so exercised, does she? Wonder why. Can’t think.
In any event she could be 10 bloody kitchens and it would pale into insignificance next to andy’s associates.

QualCheckBot · 19/08/2019 16:43

Mandalorian "His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behaviour is abhorrent."

And that is not a denial. "The suggestion" is abhorrent. It doesn't say he didn't do it.

Linseedlill · 19/08/2019 16:44

I thought it was interesting that the BBC news reporter (Jonny Diamond I think?) ended his lunch time TV report about Andrew and Epstein with words to the effect of "will this die down or is there more to come"? which set us all thinking that there definitely must be more info out there.

CedarTreeLeaf · 19/08/2019 16:44

I think they're all equally unworthy. Seize the assets and buildings of the crown, turn them in to tourist ticket money makers. Put the money in to the areas suffering from austerity. Give people the NHS they deserve. Stop killing people with disabilities by denying their DLA on shady grounds. Feed the children who go to school hungry. Make a robust benefits system so no one ever needs to visit a foodbank.

All of those things are so much more worthy than the RF.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 16:46

"His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behaviour is abhorrent."

Notice that it doesn't say the suggestion is untrue.

Classic non denial denial.

MangoFeverDream · 19/08/2019 16:47

threads about Andy’s links to child sex abuse rings are permitted to remain

They are often deleted

the last thread was deleted because the Meghan bashers descended and tried to hijack a perfectly reasonable thread about carbon footprints

There was one post that referenced it, but you were accusing many of those making perfectly reasonable objections as having some sort of ulterior motive.

We were actually complaining about their hypocrisy and their hopeless PR team.

chomalungma · 19/08/2019 16:47

His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behaviour is abhorrent

That's the kind of thing Trump's spokespeople say when he is accused of stuff. They call the suggestion 'abhorrent, disgusting" etc.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/08/2019 16:47

If I were her I’d bugger off back to the US with my kid and a nice fat divorce settlement. Good luck to her

Wait … Sad

ChlamydiaSoup · 19/08/2019 16:49

@cedarleaftree
I agree. I’ve always thought we could put the hangers on (like Beatrice and Eugenie) to work as tour guides. Give them something to actually do.

areyoubeingserviced · 19/08/2019 16:51

@joyfullittlehippo- totally agree with your post.
Threads have been deleted because of some of the racist bile written by some posters.
I have read some of those threads and have cringed with embarrassment at the way some poster have conducted themselves. There idea that there is some conspiracy to pull threads attacking the Royal Family is hogwash.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 16:51

Thing is, nobody in America would have crossed the road for her until she married a dumb prince. The height of her career there was the briefcase girl on "Deal or no Deal'. And the monarch is the official ncustodia of any 'royal' child, so she can't simply take him to another continent.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/08/2019 16:52

Loving the statement, though … it's almost up there with Clinton's "it depends what the meaning of IS is"

I just wish we could get rid of the whole darned lot of them, but am realistic enough to know it won't happen while the Queen lives

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 16:52

I agree. I’ve always thought we could put the hangers on (like Beatrice and Eugenie) to work as tour guides. Give them something to actually do.

The York girls do have jobs though. They aren't full-time (!) royals.

Funghi · 19/08/2019 16:53

the last thread was deleted because the Meghan bashers descended

Hmm

So strange how defensive posters get over her.

didofido · 19/08/2019 16:55

Would abolishing the monarchy make any difference? They would then be extremely rich private citizens - and the media would still report their doings (and failings) in detail. Just like they do now.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 16:55

So strange how defensive posters get over her.

Especially as not one of them gave a damn about her before she got with an intellectually challenged princeling.

MangoFeverDream · 19/08/2019 16:56

Yet somehow she doesn’t get people quite so exercised, does she?

You mean the Duke and Duchess of Doolittle? Willnot and Kannot? I mean, they’ve been (rightfully) accused of being workshy since the very beginning.

Really, I don’t know what William is so angry about, H&M are the best thing to have happened to them as far as PR goes.

As for Andy, QE isn’t going to do this for her precious Andrew, but he needs to be stripped of his rank and told to pack his bags. Unless he comes clean with what he knows ...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/08/2019 17:00

The rumours about Andrew and under age girls have been circulating for years, but there hasn't been anything concrete. Now it looks as though there might be.

He is not above the law - if evidence points to inappropriate behaviour, he has to be investigated. And if he's guilty he should be punished as severely as any other similar offender. ie jail.

Good luck with that.

CedarTreeLeaf · 19/08/2019 17:01

Would abolishing the monarchy make any difference?

Once they lose the crown, they do not get to keep the crown estates. Those funds would go entirely back to the public so it would make a difference.

Pamplemousecat · 19/08/2019 17:03

Where has anyone been racist? It simply isn’t a factor here. The implication it is is just not on. You can’t keep accusing people of it without evidence.

Steppenwolverine · 19/08/2019 17:04

I don’t know what William is so angry about, H&M are the best thing to have happened to them as far as PR goes.

Good point, H&M have worked wonders for Kate's popularity, in particular. She's been cast as a thrifty, modest and humble antidote to MM's nouveau extravagances.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2019 17:04

Also, one of the major - if not THE major - expenses incurred by the royals is security, something which is conveniently left out by the 'the royals only cost you 0.0000000001p a year" (or whatever) brigade. So long as they retain 'royal' status, that security bill is paid by the taxpayer. It would not be the case were they to become private citizens. Granted the security costs would obviously be lower in that case, but it would still be a very substantial expense to come out of their own pockets.

SeriouslyEnoughAlreadyRantOver · 19/08/2019 17:04

The height of her career there was the briefcase girl

bit harsh, some of us like "Suits" more for Gabriel Macht

I am getting bored of the attacks against Meghan. Accusing Kate of being work shy was one thing, even the Queen famously had to put her foot down, but abusing a young woman whose only crime was to marry the "darling prince" Hmm is a step too far. You can disagree without being so rude and vicious.

At least this thread might have been put up on the reddit MN subforum for people to see what gets deleted on here

phlebasconsidered · 19/08/2019 17:05

Knives out isn't enough - guillotines do the job.

Failing that get shot of the lot of them and leave them to work in the real world. Keep an odd palace or two for the tourists ( earns Versailles enough) and give the rest of their land over to sustainable, green, low cost initiatives for work and housing for ordinary people. It's a crime to be doffing our caps at the aristocracy in 2019.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 19/08/2019 17:05

M and H have just brought the country’s disaffection to the fore more than ever before with their ridiculous behaviour. I have never been so displeased with the Royals as I am right now.

You are easily displeased. The vast amounts of money they spend, Charles affair, Andrews associates, but Meghan is the one who makes you the most upset. How very dare she marry into the blue blood gods. Who does she think she is!!!!!
