The knives are out for the royal family

It may be deserved in some cases, however it would seem the gloves are off as far as the media are concerned. They have lived high on the hog for centuries so what is new?

Am scratching my head here is it shoot the royal family season or a smoke and mirrors exercise designed to distract us from something more important??

I would hate to be in the PR business with the RF just now.

I thought the same of PW when he lectured on society needing to reduce the amount of children they were having "to reduce overpopulation"...while KM was pregnant with their third child in 4 yrs

I thought the same too, Neelix.

QualCheckBot · 20/08/2019 12:01

MrsJay Harry is like an over grown rich gap year kid wearing friendship bracelets, trying to be woke, worthy and lefty, whilst being a massive bloody hypocrite and an appalling example. It’s just embarrassing

Yes to ALL of this he is just become irritating has he always been that annoying ?

I don't think he has always been that annoying. "Woke" people are generally very irritating, as they love to lecture you and assume they are superior, without actually bothering to find out the background.

George Clooney didn't used to be all that annoying, and look at him now. Elton John presumably used to be hip and cool due to his natural songwriting talent at one time, rather than being a professional celebrity/royalty *e licker, and look at him now.

If I sound harsh, I just prefer being lectured to by non-hypocrites with actual qualifications in their subject, rather than those who have a vested interest in coming across as appealingly woke.

NeelixFelicis · 20/08/2019 12:06

Elton John making a 'carbon tax' donation after his besties flew 2 private jet trips Hmm
I'm going to kick some puppies this afternoon. But don't worry, I'll make a donation to the RSPCA tonight so it's okay.

QualCheckBot · 20/08/2019 12:06

Redtoothbrush That's why Brexit DOES come into all this though. Through the actions of Johnson mentioned above and through Farage opening his mouth the other week. Its unavoidable because it is literally dominating everything and is a symptom (not a cause) of the wider political culture war which is polarising society.

Its symptomatic of an inadequate Constitution. The UK has a political and legal constitution, which means that parliament can basically make it up as it goes along, with checks provided by the courts, and with the historical background of certain constitutional documents. It clearly needs updating as it just isn't working very well.

The lack of constitutional discussion at this seminal moment in history for the UK is disappointing and doesn't really say much for the education system. Compare with nearly every other civilised country in the world, which has a single constitutional document and established procedures for changing the constitution with appropriate checks and balances built in and laid down clearly. Sometimes with constitutional courts, sometimes with a form of judicial review but the latter nearly always being less restricted than the UK version.

Well, except for Poland at the moment, but there are at least historical justifications for that. Poland and Hungary are not shining examples of the EU in action.

Gobbolinocat · 20/08/2019 12:15

So prosecutors have welcomed Prince Andrew latest statements and welcome back the opportunity to work with him and helping the girls who were abused.

How is he going to wriggle out of of this. He is well and truly snookered.

ssd · 20/08/2019 12:16

When Elton John and Ellen are leaping to your defence, 2 mega millionaires defending more millionaires, it doesn't exactly endear you to Joe public.
I'm worrying about getting a better job and how brexit will affect my kids and trying to donate to homeless charities and there's Elton saying he's paid their carbon footprint when they flew in a private jet to his 15 million pound home?
They can all fuck off.

Gobbolinocat · 20/08/2019 12:17

We're talking about this because a nasty evil man from the States trafficked young girls. And our royal family is involved.
. Honestly shoe Horning brexit into everything.

catinboots99 · 20/08/2019 12:22

Cannot believe this thread hasn't been pulled. Which is a good thing. We need open and honest discussion.

GlitchStitch · 20/08/2019 12:23

Yep the only thing more annoying than being lectured at by rich celebs is being lectured at by more rich celebs for daring to be annoyed at the first lot.

They can all fuck off

My sentiments exactly.

travellerexpat · 20/08/2019 12:31

In Prince Andrew’s head, he probably thinks it was ok to s**g a 17 yo as she was over the age of consent ( although not in her home state; I think it was Florida).
He has blindly ( conveniently) ignored the trafficking element and happily accepted loans from Epstein.
Didn’t Kevin Spacey also visit an island in the Caribbean to abuse young boys.
Much as pretty much anyone famous in the 1970s in the UK has been unearthed as a sex offender, it would appear that there is an even bigger can of worms being opened in the US....

Pamplemousecat · 20/08/2019 12:33

Elton is like a giant toddler prone to tantrums. Get back in your gilded play pen and stop lecturing the plebs. You’re not helping the environment, yourself or your besties. You look like a bunch of divs.

Gobbolinocat · 20/08/2019 12:36

Ssd your like the oracle of truth, tiny voice lost in a sea of eco flights.

Apparently epstein helped Andy to relax and wear joggers, t shirts and obviously shag trapped, groomed trafficked girls.

Emilyontmoor · 20/08/2019 12:47

Mango I wasn’t disputing the hypocrisy. I was highlighting the dog whistling. Where is all this frothing indignation coming from? Fromage and the right wing press. They might be appearing to be highlighting hypocrisy but it is a dog whistle for racism and climate change denial to their target audience and from some of the posts in here that is very apparent. I don’t much care about Harry and Megan, they are as irrelevant to me as Brad Pitt but I do care about the bigger issue of the effect of climate change on my children’s futures and then making their way in a world where racism and sexism have not become accepted again. That is much more important to me which is why I will call out dog whistles for climate change denial and racism

Emilyontmoor · 20/08/2019 12:49

I will also call out randy Andy because I have witnessed him being a thick entitled sexist lecherous arsehole and the allegations about him ring entirely true with my experiences of him.

Gobbolinocat · 20/08/2019 13:01

It's more than just randy Andy though isn't it.
I'm just surprised more posters don't seem interested in it.
But frothing up over Megan and Harry.

Ibiza2015 · 20/08/2019 13:08

Jesus. I can only imagine the type of toad people who would click on a poll to vote for whether they like Meghan or not. Who on earth would give a toss what such toads like or dislike except for toads like themselves.

It’s YouGov., they’re a proper polling organisation, people are paid to take part and it’s properly weighted etc.

Maybe next time before being nasty and using abusive names for other people, you might want to check if you’re actually right.

Ilovechocolate01 · 20/08/2019 13:12

How is he going to wriggle out of of this. He is well and truly snookered.

I don't know how he will wriggle out of it but I am absolutely sure that he will. Rich, white influential men will never be held accountable. It is disgusting and depressing but I just can't see anyone getting prosecuted or anything changing. He'll hide away until it dies down like last time

SheStoopsToConker · 20/08/2019 13:14

It wasn't a poll asking whether you liked Meghan or not, it was a general poll about the royal family. Meghan still came out higher than Camilla or the Wessexes. The data is actually quite interesting when broken down by sex and age groups.

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS Grin

NoTheresa · 20/08/2019 13:27

I don't know how he will wriggle out of it but I am absolutely sure that he will.

He is too fat to wriggle.

Of course we do. We are not children or giant toddlers.

Steppenwolverine · 20/08/2019 13:41

I'm not saying all criticism of Meghan is racist but there is a good proportion that is. The vitriol for her on some MN threads is only matched by the vitriol I've seen for say, Serena Williams or Diane Abbott.

Sorry, but this is utter nonsense. Ever read a positive thread about Amanda Holden? Check your confirmation bias.

MangoFeverDream · 20/08/2019 14:01

Ah, thanks, just realised that Fromage and the right wing press are not just using racist dog whistling it is climate denial dog whistling as well

Well you did accuse me of climate denial dog whistling, which is a first. And yes, I did criticize William when he lectured us about overpopulation while his wife was pregnant with their third child.

I guess he’s getting some very easy PR win now since H&M are massively fucking up as he’s gone commercial with his family on a recent overseas trip. But he’s just as bad imo

CedarTreeLeaf · 20/08/2019 14:02

Can anyone name any public figure who hasn't received negative comments? I'm including your small town social media and YouTube personalities in that as well...

It's not about disparaging comments from the public, it's that the country is suffering and the RF has taken more than their fair share. At this point, the NHS is running on good will and charitable feeling from its employees. We can't have that and have a royal family. Come on. Do you want the healthcare workers that operate on you, overworked, tired, understaffed, and likely to make a mistake? They are forced to stay when all hands are required on deck, and they are so badly underpaid. Why do they have to go without when the RF is double dipping in the public purse and in their questionable connections?

If the RF cared about its constituents they would have stepped in vocally to stop the austerity campaign that has been killing the poor. Lend a voice to the people who are really suffering, to the NHS that is crumbling, and to people being denied DLA while on their death bed. Lend a voice to the children going hungry at school and a voice for the people on benefits forced to visit food banks.

No, instead they invest in things like Bright House and keep company with a convict like Epstein.

They deserve nothing.
