What did you think you would call your kids

I couldn't sleep last night and for some reason I thought back to the names I decided I would call my kids when I was younger so my son would have been called Jordan Tyler Blush
My daughter was going to be called Tara, don't know why it just seemed the height of sophistication at the time 😂
3 children on and not one of those names has been used!! Was just wondering what names you thought you would use and did you actually call your children these names?

If I'd have had a girl she was going to be called Martha. Didn't really have any boys names but had 2 boys and they both have names.

brightfutureahead · 18/08/2019 20:33

I wanted Lizzie for a girl. I forgot about the name for years, then had an Elizabeth and remembered about being 18 and Lizzie being the name I would call a girl. Seems like I finally got my Lizzie, albeit not the main name but still. Smile

I was going to have girl twins, at the end of May...
Gemini and May.

I do have 2 DDs, not twins, neither born in May, called something completely different!

I wonder how many of us, as children, were influenced by tv when it came to deciding our favourite names. II’m pretty sure there was an Amanda in Falcon Crest or Dallas or Dynasty. I think I also liked Sammy Jo!!!

SheDancesOnTheSand · 18/08/2019 20:37

The names I loved when I was younger came from YA novels. Zephyr and Hunter for boys names (ended up using Hunter as a second middle name for DS as it's a family name for DH - not brave enough for a first name!)

For a girl it was Ellen (Elle would be used though) because of my obsession with Legally Blonde...

growlingbear · 18/08/2019 20:38

Oliver for a boy (fine) but Jillian for a girl (inexplicable.)

Siameasy · 18/08/2019 20:40

I loved the name Tara too! (70s child)
I also liked Tracey 😂😂😂 and Samantha. Funnily enough Samantha was my 2nd choice for DD and altho I adore DD’s name I wish I could have a Samantha as well!!! I thought it was time to bring back the 70s names. I also had Lindsay on my list.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 18/08/2019 20:42

Samantha was the name I liked too. I thought it was Susannah but just remembered it was Samantha. (70s child).

Noah. Lovely name but this was 12 years ago before it became so popular.

Popular names are great, but me and my husband have names that were very popular at the time we were born so tend to naturally overlook popular names when choosing now.

bobstersmum · 18/08/2019 20:44

Hahaha! I clearly remember in year 11 writing in my diary that my future dc would be called Celine and Curtis! They aren't!

Butterfly02 · 18/08/2019 20:46

Lucy and Megan and Emily. Only used one. Of the other two wish I'd used one of the others but didn't have enough girls!

Clawdy · 18/08/2019 20:46

Boys' name : Adam or Nicholas.
Girls' : Anna or Jenny.
Have used none of those names.

whiteroseredrose · 18/08/2019 20:50

Andrew David George and Patrick!

whereisthebloodypostman · 18/08/2019 20:51

I liked Megan and Jessica. I didn't have a daughter, I liked Jamie and Rory for my son but was vetoed although I love the name we eventually picked.

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/08/2019 20:51

Just wanted to say thanks for starting this thread OP Smile. I have two girls. We called DD1 the name we had in mind for a girl since before we started trying. We called DD2 the name that seemed right when I was pregnant. I find parenting hard and second guess so many of my decisions. Have always felt confident in our name choices though of course when they are older our DC will still tell us we chose the wrong names Grin.

ineedanotherholiday · 18/08/2019 20:52

My names I picked out when I was a child were holly & Adam.
Pregnant with first now, still quite like holly to be fair.

missmouse101 · 18/08/2019 20:55

Phaedra or Leilani. Kit or Seth. H didn't like any of them!

Frangipane · 18/08/2019 20:56

The only one I remember is Gwyn for a boy. I read Alan Garner' s The Owl Service as a young teen and fell in love with the character of Gwyn.

Stravapalava · 18/08/2019 21:02

When I was younger, I wanted Victoria Caitlin for a girl. This was my favourite name for ages. Then it was Daisy, then Isabelle.

My DDs are called none of these things and I hate the name Victoria now!

For a boy I liked Aaron and Owen. Before we knew our DCs were girls, neither of those names made it onto the boy shortlist!

Fgsdl · 18/08/2019 21:03

I wanted twins called Shannon and Rhiannon. Luckily no twins in the family!

Vasya · 18/08/2019 21:05

For some reason when I was a teenager I wanted to call my future daughter 'Roxie'. It wouldn't make my top 1000 names now!

sewinginscotland · 18/08/2019 21:07

I think Tammy or Rachael for a girl, maybe Will for a boy (I had hamsters called Tammy and Will).

DS is not called Will, and any future DDs will not be Tammy or Rachael.

beargryllshasabigrope · 18/08/2019 21:09

Chloe for a girl. I loved it when I was a teenager!

ChocolateTea · 18/08/2019 21:11

I was going to call a girl Leeza as a teen.i have no idea where that name even came from!!!

Thankfully by the time I had children a. They were boys and b. My tastes in names had changed a bit

I was well into motor racing and was devastated when my favourite driver was killed. I was going to have an Ayrton in tribute. I didn't.
