I think you all might appreciate the Protestant tray bake thread and its follow up thread.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 18/08/2019 14:44

I make these using the granola or Muesli that my kids swore they'd deffo eat but then didn't, it works well and they then eat them as an after school snack. ...

Destinesia · 18/08/2019 14:46

Is this from Lorraine Pascale's Baking Made Easy book but with added coconut and sultanas?

I've made these time after time, they're foolproof and delicious.

Duvetdazed · 18/08/2019 14:48

JudgeRindersMinder

"For weighing syrup, put a Little flour in your scale pan and shake it about so the surface is coated, then tip out the excess, then the syrup shouldn’t stick"

Bear in mind that will then add gluten to them. (lots of people eat flapjacks assuming them to be gluten free)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2019 14:52

Not keen on the coconut (dedicated or otherwise) can I add 100g of extra oats ?
Oats are a Health Food so it cancels out everything else Wink

I like place unadulterated nothing added except maybe some ground ginger OR some melted chocolate drizzled across the top...but not both .

BlackCatSleeping · 18/08/2019 14:53

Just put the mixing bowl on electric scales and hit zero. Then pour/squeeze in golden syrup directly to the bowl until you reach the desired weight.

sittingonacornflake · 18/08/2019 14:54

What does sittingonacornflake and coconut have in common?

Our undying dedication to merlot. Wine

Flapjacks sound perfect OP.
Y'all def need to try this sometime.

CHRISTMAS CAKE RECIPE
You'll need the following: 1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
4 large brown eggs
2 cups of dried fruit
1 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
Nuts
1 bottle of whisky

Sample the whisky to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whisky again. To be sure it's the
highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter
in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again. Make sure the whisky is still OK.
Cry another tup. Tune up the mixer. Beat two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried
fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fired druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it goose with a drewscriver.
Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares?
Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon the sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window. Check the whisky again and go to bed. Grin

Put the tin of syrup on the scales and then take OUT the correct weight instead of adding it on....

BritWifeinUSA · 18/08/2019 14:57

With the day I’m about to have I’d forget the Merlot and just chuck in vodka.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/08/2019 14:58

oooooh, I've never mastered a flapjack - trying this!

onalongsabbatical · 18/08/2019 15:00

Then pour/squeeze in golden syrup directly to the bowl until you reach the desired weight. Sadly, I exceeded my desired weight some years ago…

PancakeAndKeith · 18/08/2019 15:01

I like the addition of merlot.

MrsJakeLovell · 18/08/2019 15:01

Thank you @Pipandmum was starting to think it was invisible! Grin

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 18/08/2019 15:02

ormal porridge oats aren't gluten free anyway :)

For weighing syrup put the bowl or pan you'e going to be using on the scales and tare them first. Weigh syrup in that and Bob's your weird uncle.

EvenPhilip · 18/08/2019 15:02

Loving the Christmas cake recipe Grin

EvenPhilip · 18/08/2019 15:05

I will be making these this afternoon with some Cava, as I am out of Merlot.
This thread has made me laugh.

Windygate · 18/08/2019 15:09

WineWineWineWineWineWineWineWine thank you, will try your recipe. My flapjacks make excellent paving stones

Destinesia · 18/08/2019 15:41

I weigh the syrup straight into a large pan (ie put the pan on the scale then set to zero), then weigh in the sugar in the same way, then pour in the melted butter. Once that is all combined, I add the oats to the pan (along with zest of half a lemon or orange and a pinch of cinnamon or ginger)

Are ormal oats the same as orridge oats?

ImNotYourGranny · 18/08/2019 18:59

I've just made these. I hope they live up to their advertising as I'm breaking my diet for these. Grin

Destinesia · 18/08/2019 19:42

my flapjacks don't stick together when I use gluten free oats Confused
