Crispy on the top and a perfect chewy texture on the bottom.

175g butter
175g light brown sugar
175g golden syrup

  • Merlot these all and stir
Add 350g of oats, 100g dedicated coconut and 75g sultanas

Put in a 30 x 20 cm tray and bake for 40mins at 150 degrees. Cut into 12 pieces when cooled. Die happy.

Thank you JudgeRindersMinder. It’s a liquid so I’d usually measure it in a jug.

SuzieQ10 · 18/08/2019 14:08

It's haven't any golden syrup. But want to make these. Would it work with runny hunny?

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 18/08/2019 14:08

Is that a fan oven or normal as I wouldn't want to burn or overcook them. Love flapjacks but am useless at cooking them so want to try these!

DarkNoise · 18/08/2019 14:08

With the Merlot and the Dedicated Coconut this has moved from recipe to Poetry. Pure Poetry.

SuzieQ10 · 18/08/2019 14:09

Or perhaps the honey would not be quite sticky enough to hold it together. Perhaps I'll save it for another day after a trip to Sainsbury's.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 18/08/2019 14:09

I'm so pleased to see dedicated coconut is coming back into fashion Grin

Thequaffle · 18/08/2019 14:10

@SuzieQ10 I’m not sure, I’ve never done it. I personally feel golden syrup is integral to a flapjack recipe. It would probably make it healthier!

@CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest I had it on 150 fan. Keep peeking at the top so it doesn’t get too brown. And press the mixture down in the tin before it goes in so it’s nicely compacted.

@Thequaffle stop with your fruity goodness! Let’s go for honeycomb 😂

Thequaffle · 18/08/2019 14:12

@howwudufeel yep you can leave them out completely if you like.

Freefrops · 18/08/2019 14:12

Is that a fan with 150 feathers? Or an electric one with those bits of paper waving out of it?

FiveLittlePigs · 18/08/2019 14:14

I'm trying to find a loophole to justify these being a part of the Mediterranean diet that I'm on but failing miserably. Sad

Apart from the Merlot, I can have an occasional glass of that! Grin

Thequaffle · 18/08/2019 14:14

@JudgeRindersMinder haha, yes, I think a smashed up crunchie bar might just be what’s needed to elevate these!

DontCallMeShitley · 18/08/2019 14:15

I use a recipe with condensed milk and golden syrup but nothing dedicated and no Merlot or dried grapes.

which1 · 18/08/2019 14:18

Glace cherries go well with this.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/08/2019 14:19

I do a similar recipe. No sultanas and no merlot but add melted chocolate instead, about 150g worth.

Thequaffle · 18/08/2019 14:21

@which1 yes they would! I wanted glacé cherries but they didn’t have any in my Sainsbury’s local so went with the controversial sultana instead.

Mamalicious16 · 18/08/2019 14:22

I make this but no coconut or sultanas.
Mine doesn't make it into the oven.......mmmmm

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 18/08/2019 14:24

Sultanas- No, no, no and no!

ChicCroissant · 18/08/2019 14:28

Golden syrup sets after baking, so the biscuit/flapjack/whatever will be very soft when it comes out of the oven but will crisp up/set later. Not sure honey would have the same effect but nothing wrong with a crumbly flapjack if you have a spoon handy. Give it a go and let us know, if it is too crumbly then you'll have to cook a second batch with syrup just to check the difference.

JinglingHellsBells · 18/08/2019 14:29

@thequaffle what is the AIBU? Maybe post in food instead Hmm

You can add whatever you like to flapjack mixture within reason.

JinglingHellsBells · 18/08/2019 14:30

Honey will not work- different setting temp etc and it's no healthier- both are sugar.

PasDeGeeGees · 18/08/2019 14:32

I like a flapjack - cheers OP.

Wine ^ a nice Merlot perhaps?
ToEarlyForDecorations · 18/08/2019 14:37

sounds delish. Nom, nom, nom

(were those remarks irritating enough ?)

Thequaffle · 18/08/2019 14:40

@JinglingHellsBells I thought it might be unreasonable because they’re so good everyone might stop what they’re doing and get in the kitchen and start pouring Merlot.
