To wonder why Corbyn won’t stand aside

Bearbehind · 16/08/2019 08:52

Is he just the most stubborn man ever?

Labour could win a GE if they stood on a Remain, or at least avoid No Deal ticket but Corbyn is so toxic that people just don’t support him.

I know he wants to leave the EU really but why are Labour letting him stay in post?

Polyjuice · 16/08/2019 18:56

Most people I know fear only one thing more than no deal and that’s a Corbyn government. I’m a staunch remainer and cannot stand the current cabinet (nor was I a fan of the previous one) but I genuinely think Corbyn at the helm will do our country more harm in the long run. He is not capable. There are many members of the Labour Party I’d be very happy to see lead a government but never Corbyn.

Bearbehind · 16/08/2019 18:58

Remain supporters are pretty much politically homeless

I’m a self confessed ex Tory voter.

Any party with half a chance of winning a GE, that supported remain would get my vote

And before people get all virtuous about other issues - Brexit will affect our generation far more than anything else

On most other issues labour and the Tories aren’t actually miles apart

OP posts:
IABUQueen · 16/08/2019 18:59

Because people like me are passionate about him staying as leader.

you states your in your vote. YABU. He is the best.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/08/2019 19:00

There are very few people I wouldn’t vote for to try to keep Boris out. Corbyn is definitely one of them.

This....

Bearbehind · 16/08/2019 19:04

He is the best

Seriously, how can you even begin to defend that?

He is the worst opposition leader I can think of.

He has done nothing about Brexit except keep on saying we need a GE - which he wouldn’t win

If he ‘is the best’ we really are screwed.

OP posts:
sdb1hcs · 16/08/2019 19:12

Labour should be wiping the floor with the Tories. They aren't. Why not?

Anyway, even if JC headed up an anti no-deal govt, what happens? Is brexit automatically fixed?

megletthesecond · 16/08/2019 19:15

Yanbu.
I'm Labour but he has the leadership skills of a dead slug. We're screwed until he steps down.

NameChange84 · 16/08/2019 19:16

Exactly what @Polyjuice says. Genuinely afraid of what would happen under this country under Corbyn.

bellinisurge · 16/08/2019 20:45

@IABUQueen this isn't really a situation that needs fan girl infatuation.

IABUQueen · 16/08/2019 21:36

bell except my husband who I’m infatuated with is also a labour member and going out of his way to vote Corbyn. And brother.

If you can’t accept the fact he was voted in then I’m afraid politics isn’t for you love.

Bearbehind · 16/08/2019 21:47

IABU, Corbyn was voted in before Brexit.

If you can’t see he’s a useless fuckwit who is singlehandedly preventing the Labour Party gaining power I think it’s you who doesn’t understand politics.

OP posts:
IABUQueen · 16/08/2019 22:05

Doesn’t democracy give me the right to have an opinion different to yours ?

That’s just an essential part of politics darling

Bearbehind · 16/08/2019 22:20

People have every right to whatever opinion they want but generally speaking, and especially in politics, your opinion is meaningless if you can’t defended it.

OP posts:
IABUQueen · 16/08/2019 23:23

Do I really owe you to prove it? Hmm

I would, except I don’t know if we share enough morals for a constructive debate.

I’m frankly just here to tell you that there are many like me who believe in Corbyn. And so let the votes do the talking.

He is definately not the worst on the political scene and I’m not sure why the focus of hatred is on him. So I’m here as an alternative opinion.

I like him. So does my husband/family. So do majority of my friends.

I’m fact, we have just been invited to a labour meeting so we can figure out how to support him. Grin we contacted our local MP who supports him and we informed him that we want to support.

I don’t actually have the time. But I decided to prioritise.

There are things I disagree with him about, but really, I actually think he is the best on the scene. Genuinely.

I won’t discuss why. Because I’m not interested frankly. He represents me more than anyone else. Quite simply put. And he hasn’t harmed anyone.

His leadership might not be amazing. But I care about his core values. Better than a dodgy leader with zero morals. Which we have had for a while.

Charmlight · 17/08/2019 00:08

Who would he stand aside for though? There’s nobody with any gravitas in the Labour Party at the moment IMO.
Ed Miliband should never have stood against his brother for the leadership in 2010. It’s all gone downhill since then.

Bearbehind · 17/08/2019 07:46

TBH you have just proved my point IABU

On one hand you said ‘he’s the best’ and then you said ‘his leadership might not be amazing’

I think people have a right to better than that, you’re clearly happy with mediocrity at best.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/08/2019 07:49

Says someone who voted for Cameron twice even though he'd promised a referendum, Bearbehind cant vote for Brexit but she's happy to fuck over the poor and vulnerable regularly

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 17/08/2019 08:07

We've all got worse than mediocrity at the moment Sad

Rubicon80 · 17/08/2019 08:14

His leadership might not be amazing. But I care about his core values.

Is it the rabid antisemitism, the rank dishonesty about Brexit, the laying wreaths for terrorists, the defending of neo-Nazis, the refusal to accept that Putin or Iran could ever do anything wrong, or the never having read a book that particularly speaks to you?

Rubicon80 · 17/08/2019 08:17

Or perhaps it's the total intolerance of dissenting views, the ignoring of an overwhelming vote of no confidence, the bullying, the totalitarian takeover of the party, or the nurturing of an insane personality cult?

Bearbehind · 17/08/2019 08:25

Says someone who voted for Cameron twice even though he'd promised a referendum

Voting to fit a party who planned to hold a referendum is nothing like voting to leave in said referendum.

Even Cameron didn’t think we’d actually chose to leave and, as yet, no one has come up with a remotely convincing case to do so

The tories have gone out to brand him “dangerous” and I think that has definitely put people off voting for labour with him as leader, but reading this I do agree with a lot of his views en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Jeremy_Corbyn

Except maybe austerity. Yes the tories went too far with it but something had to be done to
reduce the debt.

I’m not really convinced by the anti semitism claims, but he could have shown much better leadership on this as with other issues.

There are others on the Labour Party with decent core values who would be more votable for - not sure who though Confused

I don't like what I know of Jeremy Corbyn. I don't know him personally but his personal life choices alienate me. Privately educated (I'm a state school teacher), three times married. Much younger third wife ( 20 years difference). He grew up in the same area as me but was whisked off to private school so he did not have to mix with the likes of me. He achieved All E grades at A Level.
However, I would be prepared to let him have a go as Prime Minister. I truly think he does not want the job. Ultimately, he is quite lazy and wants an easy life. It would be interested to see if he steps up to the challenge.
I don't like his anti semitism, I have friends who worked with him in Islington and he is old school sexist according to them.He is not a principled man in lots of ways. I did not like the stage managed scene on the BR train when he complained about the lack of a seat and it transpired he had been offered seats and chose to sit on the floor.
I personally would like to see Yvette Cooper or Harriet Harmer take the reins in an interim government.
