To think certain places can have a bad energy?

Lived in our current house for 10 months. Pretty much from day one it felt like it had a dark energy, to the point where visitors would comment on how it felt. It feels dull and the atmosphere is oppressive. It's honestly very depressing to live here but we can't afford to move house just yet.

Not to mention that so many bad things have happened since we moved here Sad

AIBU to think that some places just feel strange? Has anyone else been somewhere and experienced this?

Hmm. My OH says that when he was growing up he lived across the road from a “divorce house”. Couples moving in tended to split in the space of a few years.

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:14

@shockthemonkey Wow.. now that I come to think of it, it makes sense that so many people have moved out of this house in such a short space of time.

Yes - Oh Yes.

I have lived in two houses which felt like this.

Actually the whole surrounding area where we lived felt dark and miserable.

I was so happy when we moved.

WorraLiberty · 10/08/2019 18:16

No I don't believe in 'dark energy'.

But some houses do look a bit dark and depressing.

See what you can do with some different lights/curtains/blinds.

Unless it's a design fault and then there's not much more you can do really.

Lifecraft · 10/08/2019 18:17

No, it's just a pile of bricks surrounding an enclosed living space. Bad vibes and the like are a human construct.

Ohhhh · 10/08/2019 18:17

Yes! I used to be an estate agent, I've walked into properties in the past that have made me feel extremely uncomfortable the minute I walked through the door. One house in particular made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, it truly felt as if evil lived there, when we eventually found out the history of the place I could never do viewings there without feeling physically ill.

Jemima232 · 10/08/2019 18:17

And I have to say that all the awful things which happened to us when living in one of these nasty places stopped happening when we moved.

It felt like all our energy (and money) was drained away when we were there.

Moving was the best thing we did although it cost us a lot.

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:17

@Jemima232 It's so strange isn't it. I don't know why it feels like this, but it just does.

We were very very happy when we moved here initially, but actually since living here we've split up twice..

Aren't you supposed to burn sage to help "clear" a house?

In my job we have to go to an old Masonic Lodge and my colleague says the place just had a weird horrible feel to her, so much so she says she goes home after and has a shower! A few of our colleagues also say it has a weird feel about it. I've not been to it yet so I am interested to see how it is.

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:18

@Jemima232 Honestly that sounds exactly like us.

Totally agree, a house can feel wrong. Can't explain the logic but gut feeling is normally right.

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:18

@Ohhhh Eeek! Sad

Yes, I know a house like this - it seemingly taints everyone who lives in it.

BarbedBloom · 10/08/2019 18:19

Yes, quite a few. One that comes to mind was my friends house. She took us on a tour round and then finally showed us the back spare room. I couldn't step foot in it, just had an absolutely overwhelming feeling of dread. It was very bright and lovely, but I felt sick even standing at the threshold. She moved a year later. She never felt anything herself but no one would stay in the room, several times she got up the next morning to find a guest sleeping on the sofa because they couldn't bear the room. It was weird.

Another one was a house I visited when looking for my own. The second I walked in I knew there was something off about it. Very nice place, newly decorated, but the whole way round I felt like something was peeping at me from dark corners or doorways. It was awful in the garden, especially looking up at the bedroom windows. I told the agent it just wasn't for me. The house didn't sell, was still up a year later when I checked. They started renting it out and I would continually see it come back on right move a few months later. The last time I saw it it had been converted into two flats, the bottom one seemed to be lived in but the upstairs one was dark and there were no curtains in the windows at night. I got a shiver just driving past it.

There have been a few more but those were the two that gave me the worst reaction

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:19

@Dangermouse80 Exactly that, nothing about this house feels homely and it feels very dark.

I felt this once when viewing houses - perfectly nice property in our price range, good area but I just couldn't get rid of the feeling in there - no idea why.

Pipandmum · 10/08/2019 18:23

Absolutely. I view a lot of houses and some definitely have a weird energy. You just feel uncomfortable. I’ve been to quite a number of probate sales where a lot of the deceased’s things are still around and it’s not that, nor is it when a house is very shabby. It’s just something undefinable.
My current house feels very protective fortunately.

Camomila · 10/08/2019 18:24

I think sometimes the people in the house aren't happy and you are picking it up subconciously.

Other times it's the house. Having said that sometimes houses have really nice vibes.

I also get a 'wooo' feeling in some really old places (churches, historic houses) and in some woods near where I live.

Ohhhh · 10/08/2019 18:25

My parents live in an old barn conversion in a quiet village, very pretty to look at but the first time DH and I were house/dog sat he said he felt it had bad energy and he is not like that at all, it was so bad that he didn't sleep there at night and I had 4 sleepless nights there Sad

cushioncovers · 10/08/2019 18:29

There is a house in the road my parents live that is up for sale every four or five years, sometimes sooner. My mums always said it's got bad energy. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Placemarking!

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:30

I can 100% feel that it's the house. My parents house feels so much different, it feels "lighter" and much much happier.

I have seen things in this house also.

OP posts:
NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:30

The thing that strikes me is the fact that so many people have lived here in the past few years and have moved out in quick succession.

OP posts:
NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 18:33

Family rarely visit here because they just can't stand it. So I know it's just us feeling it.
