To think certain places can have a bad energy?

Lived in our current house for 10 months. Pretty much from day one it felt like it had a dark energy, to the point where visitors would comment on how it felt. It feels dull and the atmosphere is oppressive. It's honestly very depressing to live here but we can't afford to move house just yet.

Not to mention that so many bad things have happened since we moved here Sad

AIBU to think that some places just feel strange? Has anyone else been somewhere and experienced this?

I totally agree! There's a field I walk my dogs in and I get such a strange feeling when I'm there. It's quite remote so hardly anyone around and part of it I have to walk through a small woods and it's very creepy! I walk in a few different places and this is the only one that makes me feel this way. I would love to know the history!

BlankTimes · 10/08/2019 19:12

I think different people are sensitive to different atmospheres, that's why some feel uncomfortable and others don't in the same situation or location.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 10/08/2019 19:12

We used to stay in a relatives holiday house in a beautiful part of Cornwall, but I used to feel very on edge the whole time I was there, particularly in one of the bedrooms.
I asked my Mum and Sister & the both felt the same. It was a lovely modern, light & airy place on a lovey beach, but something just felt off.
Also, not a house but a place. Romney Marsh in Kent. I’ve been a few times at different times of the year & in different weathers, but I get an overwhelming sense of sadness mixed with fear. It was my late FIL favourite place & a nostalgic place for DH which is why we would go. I refuse to go anymore. It has such a strange affect on me!

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 19:15

I lived in another house like this when I was much younger. It felt so evil and so many strange things happened there that our parents ended the tenancy agreement early and we moved somewhere else.

It's definitely a thing.

My aunts old house was like this. It wasn't the look or set up of the house, it was the feeling you got once you walked past the door. Utter dread and sadness. The first time I went there I had a panic attack because it just made me so emotional and I have no idea why. It was decorated lovely, I'm close to my aunt and her family. We had visited regularly in her old place and came down to throw a housewarming party. I just cannot explain how awful the feeling was, it was like something absolutely horrific was happening to me emotionally but not physically. She moved again and her new house is just nice and normal. I have driven past the old house and it stands out on the street. All the houses look the same but that one just seems darker and heavy.

alwaysdressedinyellow · 10/08/2019 19:45

Two places. One was a villa in lanzarote. Thankfully we were outside every day but at night I couldn't settle or be by myself.

The other was a relatives house. The spare room was really oppressive. I later found that the adjoining dressing room had been a priest hole, at which point my feelings started to make sense.

IloveJudgeJudy · 10/08/2019 20:17

I suggest either having your house blessed or sage smudged.

RangerLady · 10/08/2019 20:28

I believe this can happen. I experience the opposite, in my new house the oldest parts are Tudor and other parts range from 18thC to 90s. I get all the comments of "uh it must be haunted it's so old" but I feel enveloped by a sense of welcome here. I'm breastfeeding a baby so I'm up a lot in the middle of the night alone and never once felt uncomfortable. Maybe it's the witch marks on the beam keeping us safe!!

IceIceCoffee · 10/08/2019 20:30

My Old house was like this everyone hated being alone there

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 21:11

My aunts house was the same. She was pregnant, walking down the stairs when she felt a hand on her back and she fell right down to the bottom. Luckily everything was ok with baby.

Her house always feels cold no matter what.

Absolutely, yes. l've only ever 'saged' one house, and l still can't tell you why. l just felt like l needed to do it.

@katseyes7,, did the sage help?

Lifecraft · 10/08/2019 21:20

I would

1.Get the house blessed
2.Get in touch with a good quality local psychic
3.Perform some form of ritual (with sage) but ask the spirit what it wants might be able to help them/ release the energy

  1. Don't bother with 1&2 but just get the money they would have cost you and flush it down the toilet. Has the same results but is quicker.
katseyes7 · 10/08/2019 21:21

Andylion Not really, l didn't like living there, and my partner at the time said he didn't like the house. Nothing you could put your finger on, something just wasn't right.
And the rattling doors didn't help, either.

Ohmybloomers · 10/08/2019 21:31

There's a house local to us that was built about 15 years ago and when it was being built my gran kept saying that the land was bad and weird and that she wouldn't like to live there. Turned out the woman who owned the land previously was eccentric and had lived on the site in a trailer. She went out to feed her chickens one day and the ground had turned very soft and swampy due to heavy rain overnight and she sank in it like quicksand and drowned Sad

That was years and years before the new house was built and the land lay idle in between.

The house itself is one of those architecturally designed type things that looks amazing on the inside, but now one owner has lived there more than 2 years. It often takes quite a while to sell too and some owners have moved out long before they manage to offload it.

Ohmybloomers · 10/08/2019 21:31

not one

ooooohbetty · 10/08/2019 21:36

YABU. I don't even know what you're talking about. You just need to decorate. White walls throughout perhaps.

EatenByDinosaurs · 10/08/2019 21:37

Do NOT use sage unless you know what yoiru you're doing with it as it doesn't work by "clearing things" it works by opening a door to encouraging them leave, so to speak. Unless you know how to close that door again, suffice to say you are going to run into problems.

Salt circles are a much safer option.

siring1 · 10/08/2019 21:41

I once heard about a hospital room in Spain where many people died.

There was no real explanation but many people with serious injuries they should have recoveted from just never did. It was just unexplained for a long time. Many nurses refused to go in as thet felt the energy in the room was bad.

Turns out the cleaner unpugged the life support machine to plud in the floor polisher every night.

Mystery solved.

15may1983 · 10/08/2019 21:42

Yes my grandparents inter-war semi freaked me out as a child. It had a wierd atmosphere but also particular areas that my sister and I flat out hated - the coal cellar, all the cupboards and the smallest bedroom which had been my mum's when she was little. One night my sister and I were sleeping over in it and both ended up hysterical after being put to bed because we saw a man in a top hat and Victorian clothes come out the wardrobe. At the time everyone laughed it off but later as an adult my mum admitted she uses to see him too and hated her room which was part of the reason she married my dad at 17 and moved out!

NineteenThirtyOne · 10/08/2019 21:43

@ooooohbetty We do have white walls. It's neutrally decorates throughout.

Places can have bad energy, yes. I've experienced it myself a couple of times. But I do believe that energy can be changed, after all, we are energy! The ritual with the salt sounds promising.

Mollymoons · 10/08/2019 22:19

There's only one name that makes the demons shudder, and that is Jesus Christ.

Do not fear, Jesus is here!

Ask Him to help you. He will.

Bunnylady53 · 10/08/2019 22:21

This is definitely a thing - great thread OP. I am very sensitive to atmospheres. DH & I stayed in a cottage on Dartmoor & I really didn’t like going upstairs by myself. It didn’t help that there was a very freaky sculpture in the living room! Hideous thing! And I once worked at a dentists in a 16th century former coaching house. Spooky! There was one room which was always absolutely freezing cold. I hated going in there.

takesnoshitfromanyone · 10/08/2019 22:29

my house had this but we cleaned it with sage and healing crystals

been here 7 years now but when we moved in(its rented)it was a uneasy feel about it,dark and gloomy and a faint smell of poo in the bedroom but the estate agent said its been locked up for a while with no sun and fresh air getting in so we moved in anyway thinking when its decorated and full of furniture and people, aired out with fresh air and sun in the room(windows are floor to ceiling) it should be ok,it was desperate circumstances that we had to leave our old house and old village, which was 8 villages away and around here that's far away(40 min car journey)

we were here only a few days and neighbors started telling us about the family that lived here,we were told its been empty for a fair few months

its a 3 bedroom house,1 living room downstairs and apparently there was 3 adults(mum and dad and dads bit on the side), and 9 kids 6 under 4 the rest 5,6,7.social services knew about them as he would constantly beat her and the bit on the side and the kids were on the at risk register

3 months before we moved in in the middle of the night social services and police broke in found all the kids locked in the biggest bedroom with just a filthy urine stained super king mattress on the floor and in filthy nappies with poo smeared all up the walls

parents were taken to jail and kids all in care, according tot he neighbors they have been telling social services for years there was something wrong but all they got was its being monitored so how the kids ended in that situation meant that they must have gone under the radar for weeks

just before we moved in we had everything painted white by the EA but we did it up in different colors and new flooring, vinyl and carpets

we were here about a week and we felt a heavy down type feel and still a poo smell but i put it down to what we were told not anything here but to be safe as we have always been a happy relationship and a happy family i googled and came across burning sage and healing crystals,i did as they said in every room and repainted the bedroom again and with days the feeling and smell went and its been a happy warm home

for months after we were having social services turn up for them, hvs and baliffs

people must says its crap and this does not work but its worth a try
