To think certain places can have a bad energy?

Lived in our current house for 10 months. Pretty much from day one it felt like it had a dark energy, to the point where visitors would comment on how it felt. It feels dull and the atmosphere is oppressive. It's honestly very depressing to live here but we can't afford to move house just yet.

Not to mention that so many bad things have happened since we moved here Sad

AIBU to think that some places just feel strange? Has anyone else been somewhere and experienced this?

Do you know what gives humans an overwhelming feeling of dread? Extremely mild carbon monoxide poisoning. I read that loads of "haunted" houses have been "fixed" by getting their flues (sp?) cleaned or heating tweaked. I've also heard of that vibration thing mentioned in a linked thread. Some low frequencies cause feelings of nausea and dread even if you can't really hear them properly (this is sometimes used in horror films). These angles are worth checking out!

@shithappens123 Is that where the poor victims of Ian and Myra Hindley were buried? Sad

Apologies if someone has already mentioned it, but really interesting piece here about how the way sound echoing around in different buildings affects their mood - think of a dingy horrible underground station versus a loft cathedral - the sound behaves differently.

I'll always remember my mum telling me about her first flat she moved into alone, she had an uneasy feeling about it and ended up spending as much time out as possible, one day when she was in the shower she swore she heard a scratching down the glass and that was the last straw so she went to stay with family until she found somewhere else... turns out an older man and his (under age) girlfriend lived there beforehand and both committed suicide together in the bathroom 😱 apparently a lot of people were against their relationship causing them take their lives.. my mum only found this out afterwards and it was common knowledge apparently!

I firmly believe that some properties are 'bad karma' so when buying a house I always check Rightmove Sold House Prices to see how frequently the house has changed hands in the past.

I was worried about that when we bought our current house 4 years ago. it was only 15 years old but had been up for sale five times (including when we bought it). But it's proved a lovely bright warm happy house (emotionally warm, it's got hard floors in the rooms downstairs and they can be chilly in winter!). No bad vibes at all, if anything it's got really positive energy. Everyone who visits says how lovely it is.

People are what make a place. If you're negative, downcast, depressed, it reflects on everything. But saying a place can do this to you, give yourself a shake, you're saying a building has power over you, is stronger than you. Seriously?

The ‘divorce house’ stuff is hilarious. Not much under half of all marriages in the UK end in divorce, and many of those divorces entail the sale of the marital home, so it’s not wildly unlikely that the reason a particular house is put up for sale is due to a succession of divorces in a row. It’s statistics, not ‘bad atmosphere’ karma. And you can either think it’s depressing or be happy about people being able to get free of unhappy relationships.

i do ancestry research and spend a lot of time in cemeteries, this doesn't bother me as i find them peaceful but once i was in a cemetery and as i walked past a particular grave, i was suddenly terrified, couldn't move at all there was this dark evil feeling and i really felt threatened, all most as if i was going to be attacked. someone walked near by and i suddenly snapped out of it and was able to move again.
i'm still going to cemeteries but to scared to go near that grave again.

Think about it all. In many UK cities, you'd be hard-pressed to find a flat or house, particularly in town centres, where there hasn't been a good deal of 'tragedy' happening in it or on the site of it, given the level of disease that used to be prevalent, lack of medicine and that people used to die at home; not to mention unhappiness because it used to be nigh on impossible to divorce and domestic violence and marital rape were legal and accepted much more. I mean, you can be talking about multi-million pound properties in cities like London or Edinburgh and literally several if not many people will have died in there, and let's be real, even now, with all our medicine, the process of dying can often be pretty awful. So can places really have that much power over those who are living now? And if so, wouldn't it only be if you give them that? C'mon!

More mild poisoning stuff! Seriously, it is much cheaper to get someone in to check the air quality etc than paying stamp duty for a new gaff. Surely it's worth a check?

I’ve had both the bad and good feelings in rooms, houses or places.
There was a house we lived in till I was 4 and I felt a sad heavy feeling in one room, years later I told my mum and she felt it too and said the family before us were very depressed!
I have been in a old pub hotel room near Tumbridge wells and didn’t sleep a wink as it was seriously creepy. My mums bedroom has a lovely feel although the room is currently in a state! and a minuscule flat I had briefly in a rubbish block with hardly any furniture had a surprisingly lovely zen feel!
I remember travelling to East Germany years ago for a job interview, don’t remember which town now but the utter feeling of sadness, dread, oppressiveness was overwhelming. I stayed the night because I had booked a hotel but cancelled the interview as I knew I could never work there and left first thing in the morning.

I believe it’s a mixture of ghosts, energy resonance left by people, lay lines, lay out of buildings (feng shui) can’t spell sorry!
No tips but great advice from others to try!

Let us know how u get on?

shithappens123 · 18/08/2019 21:48

ohflowerofscotland Yes and it’s an awful place the terror those little ones had to go through it’s unimaginable

My job involves working in people's houses - I can be there for anything from two days to eight weeks depending on what is to be done.

One property I was at last year was a strange one and I was relieved to finish. It was a large house with a big entrance hall. The rooms downstairs felt fine with the exception of the utility room where it always felt like someone was hiding behind a wall watching you, but the whole of the upstairs felt heavy, oppressive and having to work in them totally drained my energy.

Whilst I was working on the bedrooms it's no lie to say I felt so low I was working whilst crying my eyes out every day and by mid-day I'd be so exhausted I'd have to lie down on the floor to have a nap.

It was the longest most miserable four weeks of my life!
