To think some of the celebrities WANT the weird look they have

It seems like in the last year or two there's been an explosion in women getting plastic surgery that makes them look strange. Examples include Lauren Goodger and the Geordie Shore ones Charlotte and Marnie. Possibly there are loads more. The "look" has odd large lips, puffy cheeks, straining skin by the eyes and maybe some chin scraping. These once pretty women have effectively had their faces ruined.

DH insists the plastic surgeons have screwed up while exploiting some emotionally vulnerable women; he's convinced that the "look" is a mistake because nobody could want to look like that, so the surgeon(s) have overdone it and the women are just brazening it out. I agree the women clearly have body dysmorphia issues and a professional should have discussed get counselling instead, but I think they must also actively WANT to look like that or they'd be suing the plastic surgeons. So, AIBU to think this is the look they actually want even though it's so very strange?

I think they think they want to look like that because they are insecure and struggling with severely low self esteem. They will likely regret it eventually, after some therapy maybe.

I had to google Lauren Goodger before and after, it’s quite shocking.

Sparklingbrook · 10/08/2019 09:18

I thnk so too.

There seems to be a trend for toilet bowl white veneers too. I was thinking how all the surgeries etc will affect their aging process.

Only time will tell if they come to regret it.

Flurgle · 10/08/2019 09:28

Just googled as well and it’s terrifying and sad. Pretty girl ruins face.
My kids are young adults and so many of the girls I knew at 10 and 11 are having lip fillers and other procedures in their early 20s. Just normal girls. Sad that they feel this is how they should look.

elessar · 10/08/2019 09:29

It's really a strange thing. As you say most of these girls are or were naturally pretty and have transformed themselves into grotesque caricatures. In particular I can't understand why anyone would want huge plumped up lips or massive filled cheeks, I think it looks awful.

I watch The Charlotte show on MTV and it is shocking what Charlotte Crosby has done to her face, she looks almost clown-like now. Yet she was naturally a beautiful girl.

I think it must be somewhat addictive. They start off with something small; botox or a little lip filler, veneers - and it just spirals from there. They do the next thing, and the next thing, and totally lose perspective about what really looks good. It's probably compounded by the fact that those all around them are doing the same thing and normalising the process, and the constant trolling they get that also probably puts them under increasing pressure to do more in the search of perfection.

It's really sad I think.

PorkHollywood · 10/08/2019 09:37

I can't believe what Lauren Goodger has done to her face, it's actually sad.

Those who have had that surgery on their face look lionish, not a good look.

Watchingthyme · 10/08/2019 09:40

Charlotte looks insane
But I agree it’s an actual look. Barbie doll/kardashian

The problem with that look. Much like contouring, is it looks much much better with staged photos. In real life it doesn’t work very well.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 10/08/2019 09:40

Its not just ‘famous’ women - there is a selection of quite wealthy groups of women where I live who no longer look like themselves. They all look like the same woman in variations. It appears to be an image. It’s very sad :(

Roussette · 10/08/2019 09:43

I agree.

There was a couple on 'This Morning' I think it was yesterday. They were off of Love Island, as I didn't watch it I don't know who they were but they were all loved up.

Guy looked great. I stared in fascination and horror at the young woman. I've never seen lips like it in my life, it was like two chipolatas stuck on her face. Just WHY??

It was obvious that underneath all of that, she would've been a naturally lovely young woman but now... well... it was just freakish.

I am hoping that this phase passes and the natural look becomes the latest thing

I have adult DDs. Luckily they don't buy into all this crap. Yes, they've got their issues as has any woman, but wouldn't dream of having procedures done.

I was trying to think what "the look" is like in nature too @PorkHollywood, a lion is close but doesn't account for the nose.

The fish lip look is awful. I remember going out for a meal a while back, and the waitress who served us how the most ridiculous over plumped up lips I've ever seen in my life. It looked like she'd had a nasty allergic reaction. It ruined her face.

Sparklingbrook · 10/08/2019 09:47

I still wonder what long term effects some of these procedures have and what these people will look like in middle age.

sheshootssheimplores · 10/08/2019 09:48

It’s a combination of low self esteem and freebies. They judge their worth through social media and the number of likes a photo gets. The reality stars are offered free fillers and surgery so end up going to these places who fuck them up a little more each time.

I can remember watching a program about Pete burns before he died and he explained it all beautifully. I’ll see if I can find a link.

Roussette · 10/08/2019 09:49

it will quickly become the new normal/pretty and what everyone aspires to

I don't agree.

Sanity will prevail. It will never be the case that everyone wants surgical procedures.

I know some very beautiful natural women in their 50s and 60s who haven't had a thing done. Ageing gracefully and all of that.

Watchingthyme · 10/08/2019 09:49

And you can only have the pouting look. You can’t seem to smile naturally.

I was looking at Ellie Goulding the other day and she’s gone down the route too.

I also think it’s one of those things where if you look at your lips you think, they look nice and full now. Or your forehead looks nice and wrinkle free. And you don’t realise with all these things that you’ve lost your overal personality

JoyceJeffries · 10/08/2019 09:49

I do think it’s a real shame as all of the women mentioned were naturally good looking but I think they seem to like the finished look of the procedures they’ve had done.
I don’t understand it tbh.

MRex · 10/08/2019 09:51

Ah yes, Pete Burns, he was handsome when he was young then had his face ruined too.

KUGA · 10/08/2019 09:52

I think they look bluddy awful.
God knows what they are going to look like in 10 years time.
I bet they cant stand by heat for long, they will melt.

JoyceJeffries · 10/08/2019 09:53

Heidi montage is a classic case in point.

She was uniquely pretty but now she looks genetically attractive.

To think some of the celebrities WANT the weird look they have
Sparklingbrook · 10/08/2019 09:53

I used to wear blue eye liner and mascara in the 80s and looking back it was hideous. But the make up remover sorted that out. Some of this stuff seems irreversible.
I can honestly say I have never given the fullness of my lips any thought. They look ok to me so I don't know how you get to the point where you think 'I know I will have something injected into them to make them bigger'.

JoyceJeffries · 10/08/2019 09:55

The thing is blue eyeliner is relatively cheap - all these procedures are very expensive.

But you can tell I’m really getting old as I’d tell these young women to save their money and put it in a pension fund instead 😂

Zaphodsotherhead · 10/08/2019 09:55

I'd guess that maybe part of it is being in the public eye so much that, if you get a job done (usually for free) and you hate it - what are you going to say/do? You make your entire living from being 'out there', you can't stay home, most of it you can't undo, you just have to pretend you think it's great and carry it off.

And then, because one famous person looks like that, other people start trying to look like that, also hate it, but have to live with it.

Are there any cases of any famous people standing up and saying 'I've just had my cheeks plumped because my agent told me to and I hate it and think i look stupid'? I don't think so...

Nothingcomesforfree · 10/08/2019 09:56

No stranger than covering naturally beautiful skin with a man made design in ink, or stretching out ear lobes or wearing lip plates.

The sad bit for me is that it’s still all about looks.More worrying that men seem to be taking this seriously too. The overgroomed look is horrendous IMO. I thought we were getting over “ lookism” but sadly not.

Sparklingbrook · 10/08/2019 09:57

But you can tell I’m really getting old as I’d tell these young women to save their money and put it in a pension fund instead

Quite right too. Grin
