To think some of the celebrities WANT the weird look they have

It seems like in the last year or two there's been an explosion in women getting plastic surgery that makes them look strange. Examples include Lauren Goodger and the Geordie Shore ones Charlotte and Marnie. Possibly there are loads more. The "look" has odd large lips, puffy cheeks, straining skin by the eyes and maybe some chin scraping. These once pretty women have effectively had their faces ruined.

DH insists the plastic surgeons have screwed up while exploiting some emotionally vulnerable women; he's convinced that the "look" is a mistake because nobody could want to look like that, so the surgeon(s) have overdone it and the women are just brazening it out. I agree the women clearly have body dysmorphia issues and a professional should have discussed get counselling instead, but I think they must also actively WANT to look like that or they'd be suing the plastic surgeons. So, AIBU to think this is the look they actually want even though it's so very strange?

I saw a show where they said some of the fillers these people used were what you would use if installing a bathroom. Shock

😬😬😬😬 My God!

pinkunicornsparkles · 10/08/2019 11:02

I work with a lot of young girls. This terrifies me. I used to like (sort of) some of the Geordie shore girls as at least they weren't size zero and were natural looking. Now though I can't think of how they could make a worse role model for young girls.

Firstworddinosaur · 10/08/2019 11:04

I agree it's about looking 'done'. Showing you have the money and time to have these procedures. It'll be something else next decade. Something else ridiculous.

feelingverylazytoday · 10/08/2019 11:11

Some surgery does settle after a while, so hopefully these do.
I think Madonna is one of the worst examples, she looks scary in some photos, like a robot that is almost human ... but isn't. It's not that they always look bad, it's just that their faces look 'off' in some way.
I see it as an extension of the drag queen make up look. Once you've put as much make up as possible on your face what is the next logical step?

Zaphodsotherhead · 10/08/2019 11:13

I know humans have always had a tendency toward ridiculous things for 'fashion reasons' (thinking of corsets that meant they fainted a lot and neck ruffs which meant you could only eat with a special long-handled spoon), but these things were removable and reversible.

Plastic surgery is pretty difficult to reverse when fashions change. You can only add to it, not subtract from it - even if you remove fillers the skin is still stretched and has adapted.

And why would a sixty-something year old woman even WANT to look thirty again? Do they think that the men are going to be fooled?

MRex · 10/08/2019 11:15

@upple
Part of the problem is that many men like the 'blow up sex doll' look.

Really? Where do you get that impression from? I've never heard a man describe that look as attractive, the only comments I can think of that I've heard from men have been negative.

I said to DH last night about how awful Lauren Goodger looks now. I just don't get it. She was so beautiful before.

Roussette · 10/08/2019 11:18

One of my NDNs (they've moved now so this is a few years ago) had extreme work done, she was about 40. I went to a party locally and she was there and dragged me into the loo saying 'what do you think, what do you think??'

I was put on the spot big time. Her face looked really odd. She had had a full face lift and she did not look anything like the person I knew. And not for the better. I made all the right noises but was actually thinking WTAF.

However, I do put it down to her having a DH who was an arse and younger than her. Poor woman.

jesuschristwtf · 10/08/2019 11:18

Lauren Goodger reminds me of the now (sadly) late Pete Burns - over done face and looks strange but pretending to be happy about it....

barryfromclareisfit · 10/08/2019 11:20

I had to google the Lauren one, never heard of her. A formerly lovely woman who now looks like Pete Burns.

Ah, now, the sixty/thirty thing I can answer. It’s about confidence and giving the best version of you. I’m 61. Men of thirty still try. It’s quite shocking, really. There’s no need to ‘fool’ them, they want to shag women of their mothers’ generation.

barryfromclareisfit · 10/08/2019 11:21

JC! You thought so too!

CitadelsofScience · 10/08/2019 11:22

I was reading yesterday I think it was about Lauren Goodger and the reasons for her insecurities and mh problems. It explained why she's struggled.

userxx · 10/08/2019 11:22

When I was 20ish the most makeup I'd wear was mascara and a bit of lipgloss. The girls today are having fillers and Botox far too young and far too much of it. Makes me incredibly sad.

Roussette · 10/08/2019 11:23

I agree on Madonna. Smooth facial skin but look at her hands. That is why she always wears fingerless gloves. Hands are a giveaway. I'm a similar age to her and would hate to have one part of my body as smooth as silk and the rest like a wrinkly old prune!

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 10/08/2019 11:26

Lauren Goodger has real problems, I think and consistently denies having work done where you can see she has

www.irishmirror.ie/tv/lauren-goodger-reveals-truth-behind-16505795 thats saying she hadnt had lip fillers for a couple of years...

Its sad really, they all look the same. The hamster cheeks, the obscene lips, they all look like clones.

I went into a shop the other day and the girl in there recognised me from a couple of years back when she worked in a different place. It took me a few minutes to realise who she was because she had had her lips done. Such a pretty, pretty girl and I didnt recognise her with her lips almost glued on.

ScruffGin · 10/08/2019 11:34

I've just googled Lauren, good she looks awful, she was pretty before, now just looks odd...

PutyourtoponTrevor · 10/08/2019 11:40

Rachel Weisz was a stunningly beautiful woman, I don't know what she's had done but she looks like a completely different person. Her lips don't appear bigger, her cheeks and eyes look the same but I can't put my finger on what it is. Such a shame, she was always my girl crush

PookieDo · 10/08/2019 11:44

My 60yo aunty has had lip fillers and I cannot really look at her properly anymore, it looks so so strange. They haven’t done a good job either

I really feel for Lauren Goodger as I do not think she intended for the look she has now, but she’s trying to make the best of what she has ended up with.

Biancadelrioisback · 10/08/2019 11:47

It is quite a common look in Newcastle though, probably 'led' by the Geordie shore lot. Some people absolutely idolise them.

I am really not a fan of cheek implants, I don't know of anyone who looks good with them.

Rivkka · 10/08/2019 11:50

Someone described the look as like the Dolmio puppets. I think that's a good description

Katie Price's face is so stretched it looks painful yet she was such a pretty girl before.

Zaphodsotherhead · 10/08/2019 11:52

But that's the thing barry. Men will try to shag women of their mother's generation even when they know how old they are. So why the hell would sixty year old women even NEED to have work done to look younger?

I'm nearly sixty. Loads of young men try it on with me and I look like the inside of someone's handbag. I'm certainly not going to spend good money having bum fat injected into my face just to look like a better class of handbag! Especially if I can get a twenty five year old without spending the money...

SimonJT · 10/08/2019 11:52

It’s a very difficult world to be in, unless every aspect of your body is constantly scrutinised you have no idea how awful the constant attention is. An ex had a small plastic surgery procedure as the thing that didn’t need fixing was often airbrushed in pictures and that made him think it really did need fixing. He almost had his teeth done, thankfully he didn’t as there is nothing wrong with them and he would have been doing it due to the pressure of having to look a certain way.

Fuckface7 · 10/08/2019 12:04

I think these procedures cause people to develop body dysmorphic disorder. Like at first, it starts with a small procedure, then they think they might as well have another bit done, botox under the eyes, smooth the crows feet while they're at it and before they know it their now-wrinkle free, too-shiny face and inflated lips become things that must be maintained and topped up, or else. Chuck in the hurtful comments they would have had from Twitter/Instagram trolls and media columnists about their natural features, and their self image ends up completely distorted, they feel they have to be as far away from their original, flawed selves as possible. It's so sad.

NotMNOldie · 10/08/2019 12:13

This group of people is being exploited.

Lauren Goodger became a narcissist - as are most people who have facial surgery - to cover up family breakdown and being treated badly by Mark and his family, this was then compounded by ITV and social media.

Surgeons have a high incidence of personality disorders.
