To think some of the celebrities WANT the weird look they have

It seems like in the last year or two there's been an explosion in women getting plastic surgery that makes them look strange. Examples include Lauren Goodger and the Geordie Shore ones Charlotte and Marnie. Possibly there are loads more. The "look" has odd large lips, puffy cheeks, straining skin by the eyes and maybe some chin scraping. These once pretty women have effectively had their faces ruined.

DH insists the plastic surgeons have screwed up while exploiting some emotionally vulnerable women; he's convinced that the "look" is a mistake because nobody could want to look like that, so the surgeon(s) have overdone it and the women are just brazening it out. I agree the women clearly have body dysmorphia issues and a professional should have discussed get counselling instead, but I think they must also actively WANT to look like that or they'd be suing the plastic surgeons. So, AIBU to think this is the look they actually want even though it's so very strange?

Spending money should have been in bold of course. Yes, just an aspect of consumer spending culture? Self-expression and style can be fine, but when you are making people feel inadequate because, I dunno, their teeth aren't brilliant white ....

That courtney cox picture never fails to shock me. When you think how beautiful she was in Friends.

Goldie Hawn was beautiful too, even as an older actress. But I've noticed she's had work done which looks odd.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/08/2019 19:02

Most actresses over 40 are basically over the hill in Hollywood. They are still happy enough using older men but the scarlett Johansson's are replaced by the Jennifer Lawrence's.
The older women with little or no work done (Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren types) are going to be few and far between in a few years.

Owen Wilson has been success with a badly broken nose yet no female actress would be allowed that.

LostStars39 · 11/08/2019 21:10

Google Chloe Ferry (from Geordie shore) before and after, she just looks like a different person!

JimmyPesto · 11/08/2019 21:12

@LostStars39 her mum has had loads of work done now too!

To be fair to Charlotte Crosby, even though her face looks fucked, she had a breast implants removed recently because of complications and she did come out and say she regretted having them done in the first place. She looks so much better without them!

kidsdoingmyheadin · 11/08/2019 21:42

We are perfect in our imperfection

Completely agree.

It’s sad & hopefully looking young & fresh comes back into fashion. As another poster says stuff can look ok in a photo but in real life it just looks odd.

HelloyouKant · 11/08/2019 22:33

I agree with all of this, but in my heart I would give my right arm to have Jlo’s doctor for a week. Her work is phenomenal.

Nirvana1979 · 11/08/2019 22:47

The Geordie Shore girls have all had so much work. Such pretty girls too. Marnie was so natural when she first appeared on GS

That before Marnie is with “work” just not overboard.

Ah yeah you're right actually. She was even more natural in that one. Such a shame. Shes pregnant now, wonder if she'll give the surgery a break for a while...

Delatron · 12/08/2019 10:39

Yes so much bad work out there and completely overdone.

JLo looks amazing I agree, she must have a very good doctor, work is undetectable but she just hasn’t aged. Plus Julia Roberts, Michelle Pfiefer and Jennifer Anniston all look good (though Jennifer is in danger of slightly overdoing it soon I think).

Courtney Cox looked terrible as she had too much filler stuffed over her cheek muscles (as has Madonna). She’s had them removed now and looks better but I suspect she’s had a bit more put in but in more strategic places and under the muscle.

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/08/2019 10:55

Ferne McCann was someone I always thought used to look naturally pretty but she's gone down the same route & looks too pouty now.

Lipz · 12/08/2019 11:09

They all seem to look like chipmunks !! I don't get it.. so many faces ruined. Last year when in London I saw Carol vorderman OMG her face was truly shocking, her cheekbones were nearly in her eyes ! She had on a really skin tight one piece and her ass was half way up her back, it looked like she was carry her shopping in her pants. Then today reading about Katie price and yet more surgery, God her face.... I think she likes pain.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 12/08/2019 11:44

I was getting my eyebrows waxed the other day and was chatting to the girl in the salon who was doing them.

She told me she is 22, her hair is fake, her tan is fake, it takes her 1.5 hours to get ready in the morning, she's had botox and fillers. I felt quite...sad. All this time and money spent on your looks when it could go on better things.

And yes, I know I was getting my eyebrows waxed but that's £5.99 every month so I think OK!

MRex · 12/08/2019 11:49

Imagine how different her life could be if she spent 30 minutes getting ready and an hour on extending her education or working. That's 7 hours every week, 2 working months of effort every year.

I don’t know what KP is thinking really. Sadly she is at the stage where everything she is having is now corrective

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 12/08/2019 13:15

Helen Mirren has definitely had work done around her eyes but it’s subtle and makes her look “fresh” rather than “done.”

Pretty much everyone on TV will have had something done but you don’t notice the subtle Botox or fillers. To get Geordie Shore size lips, you’d need about 6ml of filler whereas 0.5-1ml would barely be noticeable.

Dizzywizz · 12/08/2019 15:51

@kaytee87 I must be being really dumb - why do people put flowers on their hobs??

MRex · 12/08/2019 15:52

why do people put flowers on their hobs?
I'll guess - is it to show off that they can't cook? Or don't eat?

OP posts:
PookieDo · 12/08/2019 16:55

No it’s just decoration and the plus of having an induction hob which is flat

They move it to cook then when it’s clean and cold put it back

I did ask my friend who does it and they just said they think it looks nice, they don’t have a dining table so it’s a nice way to display some flowers and spruce up your kitchen

In the 80’s people had plastic fauna spilling from every cupboard. Same thing

MRex · 12/08/2019 17:20

It's a shame that space is so tight that's the only spot for flowers, but I'm not sure why that makes it a "thing", is it meant to just show off that the flat is small?

And what people were these with plastic fauna? I was a child in the 80s; we had real plants on the cupboards and real dogs on the floor, no plastic animals that I can think of.

OP posts:
PookieDo · 12/08/2019 18:15

No in 80’s fake plants were really trendy!
People who had posh kitchens usually had lots of trailing plastic ivy (dusty too)

PookieDo · 12/08/2019 18:18

Then in 90’s didn’t it go all ‘country kitchen’ fashion? And then it went into sleek glossy monochrome with literally no appliances showing very minimalist

Now we seem to be in the middle fashion. Sleek modern kitchens but with large extra bouquets on your cooker 😂

MRex · 12/08/2019 18:23

Ha, ok. We actually have a kitchen that's probably from the 80s (waiting to get around to an extension before we replace it) and we've stuck with normal plants for now.

PookieDo · 12/08/2019 18:28

I remember my parents had a Formica kitchen and loads of dusty ivy 😂

So on trend

Ikea have like a whole plastic plant section now. I will admit. I bought some plastic flowers. They are very pretty
