Do you shave every day?? My legs are hairy, my armpits are hairy, my hands are hairy. Not lots, but enough to make me feel conscious. I’m busy with a housemove so no time to wax. I’m so fed up! Eyebrows need attention too. I get them threaded, but can’t go for atleast 2 weeks.

How do people manage to look so presentable all the time???

@gotmychocolateimgood

I have pcos as well, do you try it on any other hair growth (chin)?

I've been nervous getting anything expensive done to hair because it's a hormonal condition. I feel heartened that you have had success..

Which model do you have please. So the hair down your legs is finer anyways?

Whataliberty · 10/08/2019 10:34

There are some good cheaper versions of the Philips Lumea on Amazon for around £80. My sister bought one recently and swears by it. I am about to order one too!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 10/08/2019 10:39

I cannot stand constantly keeping on top of hair removal and i resent feeling like I should do.
I also seem to have really sensitive armpits and bikini line and nearly everything upsets it no matter what I’ve tried.
However I’ve just discovered epilating and it has certainly changed how I do my legs. Ask quick and easy as shaving but as long lasting as waxing. Fab. Gonna try my armpits next.
But I think I’ll stick to only using depilatory cream for my bikini line and even then, only when I absolutely have to ahead of a beach holiday.

MamaOomMowWow · 10/08/2019 11:02

Do I need all the specific attachments to do each area?

@PinkDaydreams I think it probably depends where you want to use it. I couldn't do my upper lip without the face attachment because you need a small window to avoid zapping your lips! The underarm/bikini attachment is curved so it might be that you'd struggle to get the normal attachment to work (it needs to be fully pressed down with no gaps before it will let you zap the area).

I let it grow until I have to wear a swimsuit or my DH retches when I take off my knickers. I then attack it with a combination of scissors and a razor. I’ve never had a wax in my life, frightens the hell out of me.

Caaarrrl · 10/08/2019 12:19

Can anyone tell me if the lumea essentials one that is about £170 is any good? It's a lot cheaper than the others. I only need to do legs and pits.

There's also the No no! On offer at Argos for £99. Had anyone tried that?

LakieLady · 10/08/2019 12:28

Does anyone have freckles or moles on their skin and use the Lumea? I’d love to get one - dark hair, fair skin....but I am spotted with moles

I have some (small) moles, and freckles on my face in summer, and it doesn't seem to have had any untoward effects.

gotmychocolateimgood · 10/08/2019 12:30

Nono has terrible reviews on mumsnet.

Philips lumea essential corded is the one I have. I don't use it on my face so can't comment on that. Legs, stomach, pits, bikini, inner thighs. The cord isn't that annoying and the batteries on the uncorded ones bothered me as it might be unreliable. It does the job perfectly.

Toothproblems · 10/08/2019 12:41

Men's razors. Sharper and cheaper!

Toothproblems · 10/08/2019 12:42

Threading/plucking for eyebrows

Beautiful3 · 10/08/2019 15:12

@Batshittery thanks for the information, what a shame it doesn't work on fair haired people.

Batshittery · 10/08/2019 16:44

You're welcome.

Toobuktim · 10/08/2019 17:19

Thank you MamaOomMowWow and LakieLady I don’t have any moles on my face (but rapidly increasing facial hairBlush)
It’s just my legs that are heavily mole’d and would love to be able to buy a Lumea and go for it. I did wonder about white plasters or such like, but would probably spend and hour prepping!!!

Fragalino · 10/08/2019 17:52

Thanks chocolate.

What's Philips lunea actually doing to hair, it zap it in skin is the idea to eventually destroy the hair root altogether?

Also the more it's used the more effective it is, so after a year people expect v little hair?

Fragalino · 10/08/2019 17:52

Also if one shaves and the hair is visible on skin the part in skin and its zaps it, does that fall out?

CitadelsofScience · 10/08/2019 17:59

Sorry not read the full thread. I'm not fussed about shaving, only really wear jeans and trousers.

I can go weeks without shaving.

Batshittery · 10/08/2019 18:02

Fragalino You should shave before using the Lumea. The light from the Lumea travels down the hair into the root and kills it. If you don't shave, the light just singes the hair (as I know from bitter experience)
