Do you shave every day?? My legs are hairy, my armpits are hairy, my hands are hairy. Not lots, but enough to make me feel conscious. I’m busy with a housemove so no time to wax. I’m so fed up! Eyebrows need attention too. I get them threaded, but can’t go for atleast 2 weeks.

How do people manage to look so presentable all the time???

I wish I had the motivation to shave properly tbh. I do my armpits every now and again as it looks awful IMO if I don't. But thats about it really. Unless am specifically wearing a dress to go out somewhere fancy, then I will do my legs. Can't really see my eyebrows..actually been thinking of getting them shaped and maybe tinted so you can see them..

BatShite · 09/08/2019 22:32

Fanjo. Trimmed once, never again (unbearable itching, to hell with that)

Ha, yes this. At 17. I learnt early to just basically let the bush take over Grin

ZenNudist · 09/08/2019 22:36

Rake, strimmer, secateurs....

Teddybear45 · 09/08/2019 22:40

I am Indian and hairy. I should really be threading my entire face including every 2 weeks as a minimum but as I have sensitive skin my beautician refuses to do it more frequently than 3 weeks. Threading is a more superior option than waxing (if I wax the regrowth comes back even quicker) and a Middle Eastern / Afghani / Pakistani / Indian beautician is ideal as they would be experienced with dealing with thick hair and fast regrowth. Many use special waxes or honeys for legs / bikini too that can, in a normal woman (not me!) prevent hair from growing back with successive use.

Sorry to jump on but read all your posts about the luner and they are £500 ish? Is that the one or a cheaper one?

Likeazombi · 09/08/2019 23:30

My lumea was £250 a few months ago and has done the job so no need to spend 500.
For people who spend money on professional waxing even at 500 it wouldn't take too long to pay for itself if you have the right hair/skin tone

MamaOomMowWow · 09/08/2019 23:36

I recently got one of the expensive Lumea models on Amazon Prime Day when it was reduced to £250. It can be worth waiting for a deal
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07BHX2Y3P?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I did have IPL on my legs in a salon a few years ago which was great for a while but I didn't bother with top up sessions and the hairs are growing back enough now that I have to do something if I want to remain smooth. I especially hate shaving my knees so I'm hoping the Lumea will be good (just started using it) and enjoying the fact that I can use it where I like including armpits, face and neck.

I pluck and trim my eyebrows and they could do with a tidy up soon.

I wouldn't judge anyone who doesn't go to the same efforts and, whilst men don't have to do as much, they do have some upkeep (DH is always asking me to help shave the back of his neck!).

MamaOomMowWow · 09/08/2019 23:42

Does anyone have freckles or moles on their skin and use the Lumea? I’d love to get one - dark hair, fair skin....but I am spotted with moles

You might want to give it a miss unfortunately. I only have a few moles so can carefully place the Lumea so to avoid them, and my only freckles are on my upper cheeks/nose which aren't hairy.

When I had IPL in a salon they would use a white pencil to deflect the light from any moles, but they say not to do that with the Lumea 🤷‍♀️

TheRLodger · 09/08/2019 23:43

Leg wax once a month
Eyebrows wax once a year
Armpits shave as and when needed - about once every 10 days this time of year
Pubic area- less than I should but it’s such a faff

movingontosomethingnew · 10/08/2019 00:50

What's the best lumea machine to get? Can anyone recommend? I'm hairy as fuck.

minipie · 10/08/2019 00:56

Pubes get a trim with scissors every so often when. they start poking out of my pants

Underarms shaved every few days. occasionally a bit stubbly in between

Legs get shaved about once a week in the summer, not at all in the winter unless on hot holiday.

Chin hairs and eyebrows get plucked

It really isn’t necessary to be hairless all the time

flipperdoda · 10/08/2019 08:49

This thread is making me feel much happier that others are like me (not that I should care full stop if I'm happy...but I do care).

The few other women I've spoken to seem to shave a lot more regularly than me! I do underarms when they get bad/I can be bothered/I'm wearing something that shows them. Usually every 5-7days or so in summer I'd guess? Legs it's when I notice they're stubbly. Often a few showers afterwards to be honest - hate shaving. Recently decided to no longer shave pubic area after doing so for years. Possibly due to being single again! I've found it much less itchy but do want to do something about the hair that peeks out - the scissors idea above is good, shaving = itchy I found out a few days ago.

Never waxed, don't touch eyebrows or arms or upper legs. I refuse to spend inordinate (to me) amounts of time and money on something when it doesn't particularly bother me and it's only societal pressure that makes me think I should! I recognise I'm lucky with my hair though Smile

gotmychocolateimgood · 10/08/2019 08:53

Lumea. I got the corded essential one for about £120 2 years ago. I absolutely love it! Pcos, v hairy. Now can wear an actual swimsuit as opposed to boy shorts, with no stubble!

NotWavingButMNing · 10/08/2019 09:02

SolitudeAtAltitude well put.
I can't believe the amount of time and effort going into the removal of body hair Shock
No one notices or cares, it's just a fashion.

Earslaps · 10/08/2019 09:06

Lumea here too- a total game changer.

Ledkr · 10/08/2019 09:15

I juts keep a razor in the shower and use a bit of veet and a trimmer to tidy my bikini area if I'm wearing a cossy.
I use the eyebrow wax stripes from eyelure and that's it. I don't find it much of a faff at all and I'm lazy Wink

winewolfhowls · 10/08/2019 09:16

I have the Lumea bought a couple of months ago. I should be the ideal candidate as very pale with dark hair. I have found that it greatly slows growth but not to the extent of perfect hair free body parts.

legs, so when I went on holiday I would usually have to shave every day and be stubby by evening. After the Lumea i still need a quick whip over with the razer as some odd bits still grow but thirty second and done.

My hairy belly has been Very successfully treated and almost disappeared. Grow back hardly anything.

My hairy chin and neck, greatly reduced which is amazing considering it was beardy but still a few hairs here and there when I check in mirror of a morning.

So it's not a hair free life but a much less often and less noticeable hairy life.

AlphaJura · 10/08/2019 09:26

Think it depends on what type of hair you have. I'm blonde and I shave legs and bikini line in the shower about twice a week in the summer, armpits don't get very hairy but a couple of swipes with a razor whips that off. Even when my legs need shaving you can't really see the hair because it's blonde. My eyebrows were over plucked years ago so don't do anything to them. I was surprised to find out that women with darker hair have to do a lot more. Downside of being blonde is, I have to wear makeup on my eyebrows and eyelashes otherwise you can't see them! So that takes up time every day.

LazyLemur · 10/08/2019 09:51

I am super hairy 🤷‍♀️
I prioritise and shave what I care about most. Sometimes that's legs, fanj, armpits.
Most of the time it's just lower legs.
Eyebrows get seen to maybe once every 2 years? (Thanks, fashion)
Finger hairs get done when they are higher than my rings Shock
Arms and hands and face I don't give a fuck. But my hair is the same colour as my skin so I tell myself it's fine.

gotmychocolateimgood · 10/08/2019 09:54

The best bit about using the lumea is going on holiday. I used to shave everything every morning, else I was stubbly, and even with conditioner, new razor, aloe cream after etc it was red and itchy. Epilators gave me horrendous ingrown hairs. Bearing in mind that my PCOS caused thick dark hair all over my inner thighs almost down to my knees, as well as all the usual areas, this was a complete pain.

Now with the lumea I zap before I go as part of my usual 2 weekly schedule. Have to shave once or twice only for the entire 2 weeks I'm away. As the regrowth is so fine and sparse it barely shows. The shaving is so infrequent that there is no redness. The hair follicles have actually disappeared.

Might seem silly to say it's life changing but it really has been for me!

PinkDaydreams · 10/08/2019 10:04

I’ve added the lumea to my amazon wish list and will purchase once it comes down in price!

PinkDaydreams · 10/08/2019 10:10

So it seems the difference in price is down to which attachments come with it. I can see body, precision, under arm, bikini and face. Do I need all the specific attachments to do each area?

Fragalino · 10/08/2019 10:12

Heartburn888

What's soft wax? Have you used hot wax where you there is no need for strips?

BarbedBloom · 10/08/2019 10:16

I have PCOS and shave every day, legs, pits and bits. I wax bits of my face myself. Saving up for a Lumea though as I am very pale with dark hair, so should work well

gotmychocolateimgood · 10/08/2019 10:17

I don't have any attachments and it works fine.
