To have fallen in love with princess Charlotte and her mother?

I’ve always been neutral when it comes to the royals. Didn’t even watch the wedding(s).

But the a clip of Princess Charlotte cheekily poking her tongue at the public and her mother’s reaction is delightful.

The DoC seems to be blossoming into her role as future queen and this little interaction with daughter and public absolutely makes me melt!

@BertrandRussell

Quite.

I’ve been on MN long enough to know that you’re not a royalist but not a hypocrite.

Not that the two are mutually exclusive haha!

"I bet if you were given an invitation to a palace dinner, you’d both take it and curtsy to the Queen.”
I wouldn't curtsy to anyone queen or no queen. We've been brainwashed into thinking the royals are our betters. They aren't, not by a long shot.

Basketofkittens · 09/08/2019 20:45

I’ve met various members of royalty on a few occasions. Never curtsied or called them your royal highness. Never will.

MarshaBradyo · 09/08/2019 20:46

I might do a very small bob to the Queen but not to the others

Theresa May doing that big one to Wills looked silly

PolkaDotted · 09/08/2019 20:51

Rather you than me, Bertrand. I hate parties and the thought of a Royal party is even less appealing, and I'd sooner choke than curtesy to anyone.

PolkaDotted · 09/08/2019 21:00

I can understand the appeal if you like parties and dressing up though.

Oysterbabe · 09/08/2019 21:00

What you don't see is the paps sticking their tongues out at her trying to encourage her to respond in kind. That's the only reason she did it.

BertrandRussell · 09/08/2019 21:14

I love parties and dressing up. I haven’t curtseyed since I was about 12 and it was to Mother Superior.

PolkaDotted · 09/08/2019 21:36

I can definitely understand why you'd want to go then. I wasn't implying that there's anything wrong with enjoying nice clothes and parties though reading my post it may seem so. Apologies.

MoreFrog · 09/08/2019 22:05

I'd be delighted to be invited to a palace dinner because I'd derive the greatest pleasure from turning it down.

BurnedToast · 10/08/2019 08:04

I wouldn't go to an event at the Palace and I certainly wouldn't curtsey to anyone. I find the whole idea that we should be fawning over this one family just ridiculous in this day and age. They're no better than anyone else.

yeahokright · 10/08/2019 08:06

I struggle to understand how you can be bothered to write a post on this OP. I really do.

notacooldad · 10/08/2019 08:11

How is a kid poking their tongue out make them bratty?
Little kids don't know it is wrong to begin with. They have to be taught.

I would love to fast forward 4 years to Archie being 4 and doing this and the DofS laughing heartily at it. Can you imagine the headlines! Grin

MsTSwift · 10/08/2019 08:28

Bet any money the photographers do it at her to get a reaction hence the lack of reprimand. Even the best behaved 4 year old will do it back to an adult. She didn’t do that out of the blue I’m sure.
An ex bf mother worked with William and Harry when they at primary Harry was properly naughty and Diana encouraged it.

BertrandRussell · 10/08/2019 08:28

Oops- cross post!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/08/2019 08:39

Meh
AS long as she doesn't do a Miley Cyrus style wink with her whole massive tongue lolling out of her mouth , then crack on. Hmm

JamieFrasersArse · 10/08/2019 08:53

@BertrandRussell I was thinking the same - it’d be how dare Meghan and Archie disrespect our fine traditions etc etc!

GPatz · 10/08/2019 08:59

I guess I know why some kids have very poor behaviour these days if everything they do is brushed off as just being "cheeky".

That's pretty overdramatic in itself. An incident of sticking out a tongue does not necessarily relate to poor behaviour.

BertrandRussell · 10/08/2019 09:02

I don’t have an issue with her sticking her tongue out- she’s 4! I do have an issue with everyone thinking it’s adorable and her mother thinking it’s funny.

londonloves · 10/08/2019 09:39

I remain totally baffled by the big deal people think the tongue sticking out thing is.

AllFourOfThem · 10/08/2019 09:45

Little kids don't know it is wrong to begin with. They have to be taught. she will have been taught by the photographers. You only have to spend five minutes near them when they are taking pictures in this kind of situation to realise that they do this all the time (and far worse to some celebrity children). They do it because it immediately makes their photograph so much more valuable due to the hype and controversy it causes. I find it hard to blame a young child who is effectively taught this behaviour by an adult purely wanting to profiteer from their reaction. The child does not know better; the adult does.

Thesearmsofmine · 10/08/2019 09:52

I’m not a royalist by any means but it made me smile. A 4 year old sticks her tongue out(likely in response to an adult doing it to her) is hardly a big deal. Kate laughed because sometimes it is amusing when your dc is a bit cheeky.
