Parking! With diagram! And a left note!

I’ll jump straight in... For info the was a Tesco car park which wasn’t that full...

I was driving as shown and went to turn into the space to park and saw the other car move to do the same. I pulled slightly more into the space and was fully prepared to reverse out and park in the one behind me! But, I took one look at the other drivers face which was like thunder and along with their gesticulating arms, it seemed as as if they were questioning how I dared have the audacity to park in HER space in the car park, so I decided against giving up the prime space and stayed put. This caused a miniature stand off where I deliberately avoided eye contact and played on my phone 😂

Anyway, completed my shop and successfully bought the ingredients for tonight’s tea - chicken enchiladas yum! As I merrily strolled out of Tesco I saw a white napkin on my windscreen flapping innocently in the wind. I thought to myself, surely not, this can not be a note in relation to the Honda v Honda standoff that occurred not 10 minutes before... but I was wrong! Written in beautiful block capitals was the declaration that I was in fact a TW*T

My first thought was that surely no one actually cares enough? It is a parking space that you have just as much right to as I do, but given the general rules of the road I actually had right of way... I understand they might have been having a bad day and my theft of the space tipped them over, but I could have been on the worst day of my life and the note tipped me over... there is never any excuse for actions like this surely?

My second was that I FINALLY have a parking thread!

So, wise people of Mumsnet, the question is WIBU??

YANBU to claim the space if you were both there at the same time but YWBU to not make eye contact. If you're gonna be bold, you've got to own it.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 09/08/2019 15:59

Excellent use of ruler there OP. Let down slightly by freehand cars, but I'll forgive that.

Jemima232 · 09/08/2019 16:01

AT last!

A diagram and explanation I can make sense of.

Well done OP.

And YANBU.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 09/08/2019 16:01

Can I say that your diagram is beautiful and clear!
I agree with the other poster that if you're going to be bold/brave, you've got to own it! No hiding on your phone.
Get out of the car and point to the space on the rhs

ImNotYourGranny · 09/08/2019 16:01

Your diagram is very neat.

Samcro · 09/08/2019 16:02

very neat diagram 10/10

FudgeBrownie2019 · 09/08/2019 16:02

Ha, love this drawing! YANBU for that alone, though I do agree with AVB that if you're going to be bold, you must be BOLD and stare them down with hate fire because people love that.

FiveStoryFire · 09/08/2019 16:02

Great diagram! YWNBU.

PurBal · 09/08/2019 16:03

Life is a lot more enjoyable when we don't take things so seriously. YWNBU. Note Leaver needs to chill out.

Herat1986 · 09/08/2019 16:03

It would have been easier for you to use the space behind rather than her to be fair. BUT I do hate entitlement when it comes to parking spaces or anything and the note was ridick.

On balance, this jury finds you NU

HondaVHonda · 09/08/2019 16:03

I know, I know! I felt so ashamed for not making eye contact but it’s very out of character for me to make a stand like this at all! Hence the initial thought of I’ll just move. Advice taken on board and hopefully there won’t be one but next time I’ll own it!

TokyoSushi · 09/08/2019 16:03

Excellent diagram OP! YWNBU

FamilyOfAliens · 09/08/2019 16:05

Could you pin the note on the community notice board in Tesco?

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 09/08/2019 16:05

YANBU

10/10 for description, clarity & 9.5 for diagram (I agree freehand cars slightly let the image down)

😂

Fiveletters · 09/08/2019 16:06

We need to see the note?!

Lovely diagram Smile

Coffeeandcherrypie · 09/08/2019 16:06

YANBU, you had more of a claim as she was on the other side of the road and you were there first.

But why play on your phone? I would have just parked and walked off.

AvengerDanvers95 · 09/08/2019 16:06

You were already in the row of spaces therefore you had first dibs. It was your space. The end of row space is, indeed, a prime parking spot. Shame HondaZilla will never know that her bad attitude cost her the good spot.

RatherBeRiding · 09/08/2019 16:07

In the law of the parking jungle, the space belongs to whoever gets into it first. I will make an exception for very overcrowded car parks where someone is politely waiting, with indicators on, for someone to vacate a space. For someone to then nip into that one AND NOT WAIT THEIR TURN is little short of a hanging offence.

Otherwise - first come first served and all that.

Therefore YANBU

Coffeeandcherrypie · 09/08/2019 16:08

I quite like that OP and antagonist’s cars are rulered and the standerby cars are freehand. They are just bit players.

blahblahblahblahhh · 09/08/2019 16:08

She's in the wrong, plus on the wrong side of the road. There's a space opposite so who cares. You are in the right!

BornInAThunderstorm · 09/08/2019 16:08

You were on the right side of the road whereas she needed to cross lanes to take the space, so I would say it was yours for the taking Smile

HondaVHonda · 09/08/2019 16:09

Ask and you shall receive Grin

I do like the idea of pinning it on the community board, I’m waiting for the post on the Facebook group Wink

If I'm reading the diagram correctly she would have to turn into the road first and you were right by the space. So she wanted a space she wasnt even able to pull into at that point unless she drove into the wrong side of the road?

Nice work Grin

Pipandmum · 09/08/2019 16:11

Were you indicating? Was the other driver? If you were both it’s who gets in first gets the place.
Last night at a pub with small parking area out back. We were coming down the drive to the front door and a car half turned in and waited for us to get out of the way. As we hurried on a bit a van screeched in from other direction, honked loudly and pulled in front of the car! We all stopped and looked at it in shock!
When we left I saw the van parked where bollards had been placed (so unlikely the other car would have parked there anyway). Just can’t believe how obnoxious some people are.

youarenotkiddingme · 09/08/2019 16:15

Excellent diagram.

But another poster raised the bar recently with picture stamps! She didn't use a ruler though Wink

Yanbu. Some people do generally feel they own the road.
