Parking! With diagram! And a left note!

I’ll jump straight in... For info the was a Tesco car park which wasn’t that full...

I was driving as shown and went to turn into the space to park and saw the other car move to do the same. I pulled slightly more into the space and was fully prepared to reverse out and park in the one behind me! But, I took one look at the other drivers face which was like thunder and along with their gesticulating arms, it seemed as as if they were questioning how I dared have the audacity to park in HER space in the car park, so I decided against giving up the prime space and stayed put. This caused a miniature stand off where I deliberately avoided eye contact and played on my phone 😂

Anyway, completed my shop and successfully bought the ingredients for tonight’s tea - chicken enchiladas yum! As I merrily strolled out of Tesco I saw a white napkin on my windscreen flapping innocently in the wind. I thought to myself, surely not, this can not be a note in relation to the Honda v Honda standoff that occurred not 10 minutes before... but I was wrong! Written in beautiful block capitals was the declaration that I was in fact a TW*T

My first thought was that surely no one actually cares enough? It is a parking space that you have just as much right to as I do, but given the general rules of the road I actually had right of way... I understand they might have been having a bad day and my theft of the space tipped them over, but I could have been on the worst day of my life and the note tipped me over... there is never any excuse for actions like this surely?

My second was that I FINALLY have a parking thread!

So, wise people of Mumsnet, the question is WIBU??

Good diagram.

On balance it looks like YWNBU but if other driver had started to make the maneuver into the space before you started to turn (as you’re diagram seems to indicate) then you might have been being a bit of a twat. I can’t really see how the other driver intended to safely park in that spot without causing unreasonable obstruction on the lane you were on from where they were though, so overall I think the other driver was projecting.

EdWinchester · 09/08/2019 17:11

Can you imagine being the sort of person that gets so wound up over something so utterly trivial, she has to leave you a twatty note? What a moron.

I bet she’s still seething 😂

10/10 for diagram.

TixieLix · 09/08/2019 17:11

Very good diagram OP but I felt a little let down there were no spaceships, dog paw prints or cats (crabs?)

It's very irritating when someone leaves a note under your wiper blade because they deny you the right to reply. A little part of me would have been scouring the car park to find the other car so that I could place a similarly abusive napkin back on their vehicle.

TixieLix · 09/08/2019 17:13

@EdWinchester a moron = a stupid person

EdWinchester · 09/08/2019 17:15

Exactement.

See also idiot.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 09/08/2019 17:15

lovely diagram. Your use of both free-hand and ruler appeal to my sense of justice.

TWAT note. It made me laugh. I am picturing the furious person rummaging frantically for paper, coming up with only a tissue and having to use about 5 before the pen did not make too many holes to be legible. Very funny.

YANBU.

HondaVHonda · 09/08/2019 17:16

I see the points of if she had already made the manoeuvre to cross the lane but she would have then crashed into me to park as I would have been in the way if that makes sense?

Thank you for the diagram compliments! I took great pleasure in drawing it Blush

YANBU OP - the other driver's approach to that space is all to cock. She needs to continue to move along (remaining on the correct side of the road) indicate to turn right (following the arrow) and then indicate right again to go into the space. Not impede two incorrect lanes to get there , if it was me she would have got the twat napkin back (my first post on a parking thread, may have got a bit carried away Blush)

Tinkerbell2209 · 09/08/2019 17:18

Everyone is ignoring the napkin. Was it a proper napkin, or an imitation serviette? Who carries a napkin in their handbag.

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 09/08/2019 17:18

I'll be honest, I didn't read your full post. I just decided YANBU purely because of your brilliant diagram. I salute you.

BustedDreams · 09/08/2019 17:38

@Tinkerbell2209 I often have napkins in my bag. Especially if I’ve been out for coffee or food.

BBBear · 09/08/2019 17:39

Agree with PP about her writing on the napkin... she must have been raging as she rummaged in her bag for it 😂

MountainDweller · 09/08/2019 17:58

I think it was your space.

I'm wondering whether the napkin is in fact a tissue from a pocket pack?

Slightly OT but a friend who stayed overnight this week (and left v early before we were up) left me a lovely thank you note on a piece of kitchen roll as there was no paper to hand!

gerbilgirl · 09/08/2019 18:03

Definitely not BU - it must be the time of year, I had someone tailgate me the other day then pulled alongside me at a roundabout to tell me I was in the wrong lane at the previous one (I wasn't which if he had read the road markings and signs he would have seen he was in the wrong!!).

Wouldn't have minded too much if every other word out of his mouth hadn't been an expletive while I had the kids in the car.

I took the high road, pointed out he should go back and look at the signs, smiled then continued on my way 😀

user1492809438 · 09/08/2019 18:05

Next time, smile sweetly and graciously [triumphantly]as you get out of the car.

CherryPavlova · 09/08/2019 18:08

I’d say you had right of space.

SauvignonBlanche · 09/08/2019 18:12

Lovely diagram and description 10/10.
Other driver was the twat.

Her0utdoors · 09/08/2019 18:13

Of course it was your space, you were right next to it, she was (or should have been) right over the other side of a different road.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 09/08/2019 18:19

You were definitely in the right....... but I do have a sneaking regard for such a succinct message 😂

1CantPickAName · 09/08/2019 18:26

I’m loving the note, short and sweet and conveys all of the sentiments I feel she wanted to get across 😁

Congratulations on your first parking thread OP

Excellent diagram let down by the hand drawn cars, hang your head in shame 😆

BlueCornsihPixie · 09/08/2019 18:26

This has really tickled me. I might take to putting Twat napkins under people's windscreen wipers Grin YANBU. You got there first simple as

It also would have been a very annoying space for her to get into, blocking a lot of people in the process, I hate people who park in stupid spaces for where they are coming from.

littlepeas · 09/08/2019 18:33

The way she was planning to go in was very weird. I think YWNBU!
