Parking! With diagram! And a left note!

I’ll jump straight in... For info the was a Tesco car park which wasn’t that full...

I was driving as shown and went to turn into the space to park and saw the other car move to do the same. I pulled slightly more into the space and was fully prepared to reverse out and park in the one behind me! But, I took one look at the other drivers face which was like thunder and along with their gesticulating arms, it seemed as as if they were questioning how I dared have the audacity to park in HER space in the car park, so I decided against giving up the prime space and stayed put. This caused a miniature stand off where I deliberately avoided eye contact and played on my phone 😂

Anyway, completed my shop and successfully bought the ingredients for tonight’s tea - chicken enchiladas yum! As I merrily strolled out of Tesco I saw a white napkin on my windscreen flapping innocently in the wind. I thought to myself, surely not, this can not be a note in relation to the Honda v Honda standoff that occurred not 10 minutes before... but I was wrong! Written in beautiful block capitals was the declaration that I was in fact a TW*T

My first thought was that surely no one actually cares enough? It is a parking space that you have just as much right to as I do, but given the general rules of the road I actually had right of way... I understand they might have been having a bad day and my theft of the space tipped them over, but I could have been on the worst day of my life and the note tipped me over... there is never any excuse for actions like this surely?

My second was that I FINALLY have a parking thread!

So, wise people of Mumsnet, the question is WIBU??

I probably would of put it back on her car.

I've had a day with idiot drivers or People who Don't know How to bloody park today too. 2 within the same car park.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 09/08/2019 16:19

I got a note for dating to park on my mum’s road on a a Sunday afternoon (no parking restrictions). He called me selfish and said I don’t even live there Hmm

BustedDreams · 09/08/2019 16:20

Crumbs. Some people just take the biscuit. Her not you! I voted YANBU Grin

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 09/08/2019 16:22

Life is too short!

Whoops75 · 09/08/2019 16:28

I think YWBU

The other drive had crossed into the other lane to take the spot, you could have caused an accident.

scaryteacher · 09/08/2019 16:30

Whoops The other driver as per the diagram was on the wrong side of the road. She should have gone to the junction and then turned in, not tried to cut the corner. It is not the OP who would have caused an accident.

UnicornCat · 09/08/2019 16:32

YANBU. I would've played on my phone for abit too, I'd be scared of a confrontation 😂

Nesssie · 09/08/2019 16:33

Excellent diagram

WiddlinDiddlin · 09/08/2019 16:35

Absolutely outstanding diagram, go to the top of the class and have a shiny gold star.

However only a B for performance I am afraid as the correct action would have been to give her a great big BEAMING smile and a cheery wave to brighten up her day!

You had right of way, you were there first, she can as Parking Rules do dictate (section 4b amended edition 2001) Stick It Up Her Bum.

Tonnerre · 09/08/2019 16:35

Depends a bit who got there first. If she was obviously waiting for the space, really you should have let her have it - though, given the existence of another space very near, it was hardly a big deal. If you both got there at the same time then you were entitled to take the space.

nixso29 · 09/08/2019 16:38

Surely if applying the same rules to a normal road, you had right of way as she would have had to turn into your 'road' and then indicate into the space? I dont think you are a tw*t!

MountPheasant · 09/08/2019 16:40

She had to cross from the other lane to get into the space, wheras it was on your side of the lane- that alone gives your priority IMO.

I am having an emotional affair with your diagram.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 09/08/2019 16:40

You did nothing wrong, she shouldn't have been driving in that way

BalloonDinosaur · 09/08/2019 16:41

Beautiful diagram OP 😍

And no, I don't think YWBU.

Sorryisntgoodenough · 09/08/2019 16:42

By the positioning of her car in your diagram she looks like she was already (by crossing the lane) committed to parking in that space assuming it is a kerb free space & wouldn’t have to turn into the road to get into it?

dontfluffthefluffer · 09/08/2019 16:42

That diagram is a thing of beauty!

Definitely not unreasonable, you had first dibs.

TSSDNCOP · 09/08/2019 16:43

In my old car I had a TV! (I know it was a very silly car), but in situations such as yours I have been known to settle in for Homes Under The Hammer.

If she hadn’t left the car park that note would’ve gone straight on her windscreen with a few non mots of my own.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/08/2019 16:44

I had the same sort of thing happen to me yesterday in my village. I was in the process of parallel parking my car on the road. Was slowly gliding into the space and had indicated when I spotted the car coming in the opposite direction was also trying to park there. He nosed onto my side of the road so he clearly knew what I was doing and trying to say he had first dibs... um no. There was enough space for us both btw. I parked as far back as I could and there was enough space to park a ford transit in the gap I left for his Peugeot 305. He was angry and gesticulating. Instead he parked a few metres up on the his side of the road. Dh said idiots car is still there today. It’s going to cause havoc in rush hour if it’s there tomorrow. It’s beside a foc car park btw. Some people are full of rage.

In this instance the space was yours as you were on the correct side of the road. And you were in the actual road.

Bookworm4 · 09/08/2019 16:45

@youarenotkiddingme
This is a very neat diagram but I feel @pinot use of stamper pens and artistic additions do give her diagrams the edge 😉

Lilyrose90 · 09/08/2019 16:47

Love the diagram. Fab handwriting too. YWNBU

Windygate · 09/08/2019 16:53

*HondaVHonda it's not a rude note, it's a white flag of truce signed by Ms Twat by way of acknowledging your superior parking skills.

SlatternIsTrying · 09/08/2019 16:57

I’m going to go against the grain here and say I like the freehand cars. If the cars were drawn with a ruler they wouldn’t be as easily identifiable from the parking lines. In other words, thee would be too many parallel straight lines for my eyes to cope.

Oh and OP was definitely in the right.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/08/2019 17:00

< filled with envy for parking thread >

ArranUpsideDown · 09/08/2019 17:00

9.5 for diagram (I agree freehand cars slightly let the image down)

Very fine diagram.

OP and MNHQ need to co-operate on a special MN drawing app. for parking threads.

PapaShango · 09/08/2019 17:02

Beautiful diagram.

I’m jealous. I feel like spending an afternoon in my local Waitrose car park, on the off chance someone will be a twat!

Really want my own parking thread Grin
