Absolutely devastated, lost my beautiful engagement ring today. Wondering if somehow Mumsnet can work her magic to help me find it.

Attached pictures here.

I went to Dowe’s Gym for an hour and then went to the metro convenience store next to the Subway. Attached pictures here also.

Please please please let me find it Sad

Hmm again.

bouncingraindrops · 06/08/2019 13:49

What on earth would be the motivation to make up something like this?

It's amazing what people make up. The other day someone posted a thread about a dog being dumped in their garden. Went into lots of detail and even posted a picture of their DS with the dog after they had given it a bath. A clever poster reverse image searched and saw the same picture on a stud advert Confused

I mean I understand the obvious troll threads but stuff like that just amazes me. What is the point?

Sittingonthedock8 · 06/08/2019 15:09

Attention I suppose. Some people will do anything for attention.

Basketofkittens · 06/08/2019 15:30

Archway isn’t...the nicest of areas. Surprised the ring wasn’t picked up straight away.

OP didn't explain why she didn't stop to look or why she didn't go back to look for it.

I could understand if it was teens doing it for kicks but those hands looked quite old.

bouncingraindrops · 06/08/2019 16:10

She did. It was in her brothers pocket from the gym

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 06/08/2019 16:15

“Dodgy Archway” has a tube station and the shop is right next to the tube. It is very well connected by bus. People go there a lot even if they don’t live there. It’s not that surprising that someone on MN was passing through at the right time. And I agree @bouncingraindrops- it was!

GreytExpectations · 06/08/2019 16:49

Those posters asking why someone would make this kind of thing up are either insanely naive or blissfully ignorant. Seeing as this is mumsnet, i suspect its a mix between the two.

Diva66 · 06/08/2019 17:32

Best thread in ages (apart from the haters!) 🙂🙂

LaPampa · 06/08/2019 17:50

It’s also right next to the Whittington hospital so if you live in Muswell hill or crouch end and have a baby you probably end up having scans appointments and so on there, and if you live in Highgate you might get the bus down to the tube. So it might itself be grotty but the fact that someone on mn was passing through doesn’t surprise me in the least.

itsnotawatercat · 06/08/2019 17:54

hardheadedwoman is actually from Archway though - look, here she is on another thread from ages ago, talking about Archway.

I know there are all sorts of attention seekers on MN. But also - the Nancy Drew Crew are fucking annoying.

I think some people have no idea how big MN is. There are many more people reading each thread than commenting. I can well believe that if someone posts asking about Archway, that there would be someone there, or on their way there, reading the post.

This was a lovely thing, THAT REALLY HAPPENED!

Please can the Nancy Drew Club fuck off and let us bask in the glow of a wonderful coincidence and a couple of happy MNers.

hardheadedwoman well done you, for bothering to actually look for it! Hope you enjoy the Wine Wine Wine

WTF has Archway being "dodgy" got to do with anything?! Do people think people from "dodgy" parts of London don't go on MN?

My area was rough as fuck when I started posting on MN over decade ago. Archway was posh by comparison! (My area's gentrified beyond recognition now though).

And, anyway, a 3 bed house in Archway can set you back the best part of a million, so I'm not sure everyone really agrees it's rough!

I think it came to a satisfactory ending far too quickly to be a troll.
The troll threads seem to drag out with added bits of ever more ridiculous drama that gets the wet knickers crew going.

SoupDragon · 06/08/2019 18:07

Do people think people from "dodgy" parts of London don't go on MN?

No, they think a dropped ring wouldn't stay there long in a "dodgy" area.

itsnotawatercat · 06/08/2019 18:09

it wasn't there long though Confused

What a mix of emotions reading through this thread!!!
Sadness, surprise, shock, happiness, bewilderment, confusion...

Great entertainment!

jillb55 · 06/08/2019 18:17

Hardheadedwoman, What a star you are!! I am so glad for myengagementring that you found it. I moved from Tooting about 9 years ago and lost a packing box which was probably taken to the dump or left in the flat (it was a chaotic move). It contained a strong box with a small box inside containing my engagement ring, my eternity ring, another special ring and worse of all, our daughter's first tooth. To this day it grieves me. So happy for you.

sjonlegs · 06/08/2019 18:22

Beyond thrilled that you found it - what are the chances!!?* #thepowerofMumsnet

gymraes · 06/08/2019 18:29

Lostengagementring-Hope that was yours & safely returned. Lost mine years ago-devastated. Days later (when preparing dinner) found it 'nestled', in the cauliflower I'd bought the day it disappeared! (Must have slipped off my finger as I placed groceries in bag). Hurrah!

BlueJava · 06/08/2019 18:31

Wow! If this is real it's the best threat ever!

pepperpot99 · 06/08/2019 18:38

Great thread...I too was born in the Whittington hospital! My nan lived on Despard Road and we were up the hill.

I seem to have lost a massive wad of £50 banknotes, btw, if anyone can help me find them....Wink.

bluegirlgreen · 06/08/2019 18:38

How do you know @ArgumentativeAardvaark that that is the shop where the ring was found?

Wasn't it@hardheadedwoman who found it?

I don't know what to make of this tbh. It seems like an amazing coincidence that someone found the OP's ring less than half an hour after the OP posted on here,. THEN they just happened to come onto this exact forum, and spot the thread!!! Out of the multiple dozens of pages on mumsnet, they came straight on here.

Seems very incredible and fantastic that this would happen.

I am not saying it's bullshit, but it's amazing that a ring would go missing and the 'finder' just happened to come on here almost immediately after the person who lost the ring posted the thread.

Amazing coincidence. Very far fetched, but I guess it could have happened. Stranger things have happened!

And as for the people sobbing and wailing with JOY at this thread. You need to get out more. Seriously. Confused
