The absolute state of the Daily Mail (re Meghan Markle)

This is there top story. Meghan is using a cheap shawl & DM have found the factory it was made in.

She’s been criticised non stop for her spending, uses something cheap and the DM visit the sweatshop it was made in! I’m sorry but we are all guilty of this, very few people I’m sure track down where everything they buy is made and how much the staff are paid.

It’s just getting ridiculous how they’ll find literally anything to criticise.

If the DM want to expose sweat shops (something they care little about usually) they have the resources and man power to do so but they don’t give a shit they just want to go after Meghan.

“I must admit Harry and Meghan both are losing their shine for me in the context of a myriad of faux pas many of which have come across as entitled and arrogant.”

List them.

LadyRannaldini · 30/07/2019 15:41

I’m not absolutely sure I know what the royals’ surname is. Mountbatten-Windsor? Wales? Cambridge?

When Prince Philip married Princess Elizabeth he was annoyed that their children, Charles and Anne didn't have his name, he had adopted Mountbatten when he came to live in England, his uncle was Lord Mountbatten, a very ambitious man. When their 'second family' was born in the 60s it was decreed that the male line would be known at Mountbatten-Windsor.

TSSDNCOP · 30/07/2019 15:41

Bertrand is it better to say list the ones the Fail haven’t made up?

NoMoreCents · 30/07/2019 15:45

Sexism is much more of a problem than racism, IMO. HRHs should be focusing on bringing about gender equality, regardless of race.

I stick by what asked upthread and in my offshoot thread "what is MM doing for ordinary British women?"...

On reflection, zero.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/07/2019 15:46

HRHs should be focusing on bringing about gender equality, regardless of race.

You mean sexual equality surely?
gender equality can be changed by saying "i'm a man", it's meaningless.

Mummyoflittledragon

But Diana and Kate have both appeared on Vogue?

“I stick by what asked upthread and in my offshoot thread "what is MM doing for ordinary British women?"...“

What do you think she should be doing?

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/07/2019 15:50

Does Harry mention his own racism in the past I wonder? I follow a journalist on twitter - Anita Singh and she makes the point it would have been very powerful if he had admitted to saying stupid racist things in the past and how much he regrets it.

Hithere12 · 30/07/2019 15:53

mrscampbellblackagain

What has he said that’s racist?

TSSDNCOP · 30/07/2019 15:53

She was deffo super not helpful to those ordinary/regular women from Grenfell.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/07/2019 15:54

Does Harry mention his own racism in the past
Does the Nazi uniform at a fancy dress party count?

TSSDNCOP · 30/07/2019 15:57

I do believe he called a colleague a P*ki OP. Which I think we can all agree is racist. It would’ve been very good if he’d said I’ve been a racist dick in the past, I bitterly regret that and will make damn certain I commit myself to not doing that again and discouraging others through my actions.

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/07/2019 15:58

Yes what TSSDNCOP said.

NoMoreCents · 30/07/2019 15:59

CaptainKirk OK, equality of the sexes. I don't believe a man can be a woman either.

Bert
What do you think she should be doing?

Helping women and children affected by DV - which seems to be a major problem in the UK - by establishing, supporting and promoting outreach programmes and housing projects.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 30/07/2019 16:00

“Our little Paki friend” I believe it was, with his mates, about a fellow young officer. So bullying as well as racist.

TSSDNCOP · 30/07/2019 16:00

Cents were you out and about with your Bugaboo doing that on your mat leave?

TSSDNCOP · 30/07/2019 16:04

I stand corrected Tinkly, thank you.

Cents I’m digging you out a bit here, and I should lay off.

This thing is, she is on her mat leave. Whatever cause she supports must be considered and well-executed given she’s obviously got a DM target on her back. These things take time to do properly. If they are there is a good chance they will benefit women. Just give the poor woman a chance. I know SM is like cat years; but she’s only been married just over a year.

NoMoreCents · 30/07/2019 16:04

TSS

She's living off the state, has been able to do an editorial for Vogue, she has plenty time and the means to actually DO something.

As does Kate, who let's face it, doesn't do much either.

Hithere12 · 30/07/2019 16:05

Your ire should go towards the Tories who are dismantling these services and cutting funding. What’s MM supposed to do? She has no power.

That said I do think a terrible wrong that requires a government report will require quite a lot of effort from the DoS to put right.

Swoopinggulls · 30/07/2019 16:06

Isn't it amazing how many people on MN hate the DM but know all about what it prints

Indeed it is amazing. So much self-righteousness but which is just giving the DM the publicity it needs and seeks.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/07/2019 16:07

“Our little P* friend”

Oh dear; Harry has provided the DM with its latest article.
They will definitely be trawling mumsnet for material.

I think it won’t be long before H&M up sticks and live in Africa.
And I think leg term; they will be based in the US, where they are feted.

TSSDNCOP · 30/07/2019 16:13

I actually hope not Curly. I reckon the DOS might just be quite a force for change. If she gets her team built, takes advice and makes considered choices she could absolutely change the lives of women. There did seem genuine warmth and camaraderie with the Grenfell women (I’m sorry I don’t have a better name for them), I just don’t think she’s had time to get traction on anything really meaty. I’d love to see her try and succeed though.
