The absolute state of the Daily Mail (re Meghan Markle)

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7298013/Meghan-Markles-organic-baby-shawl-used-swaddle-Archie-workers-earning-37-PENCE-hour.html

This is there top story. Meghan is using a cheap shawl & DM have found the factory it was made in.

She’s been criticised non stop for her spending, uses something cheap and the DM visit the sweatshop it was made in! I’m sorry but we are all guilty of this, very few people I’m sure track down where everything they buy is made and how much the staff are paid.

It’s just getting ridiculous how they’ll find literally anything to criticise.

If the DM want to expose sweat shops (something they care little about usually) they have the resources and man power to do so but they don’t give a shit they just want to go after Meghan.

Of course the press have got it in for her @MauritiusNext - that's the whole point of this thread. The article linked in the OP has no substance - it's just a way to attack Meghan. The blanket she was using was not made in a sweatshop, as the article itself confirms.

Plus the Mail has devoted the past week to slagging off her Vogue guest edit before it's even hit the news stands. If that's not having it in for her then I don't know what is.

SamanthaBrique · 01/08/2019 18:28

(Harry is fair game though if he's lecturing on environmentalism while taking private jets)

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 01/08/2019 18:33

You see the thing is she has. The ridiculously wokey Vogue 'Inclusive but exclusive' edit being just one. But these threads are very circular. At the end of the day people just resort to any criticism as 'It's all due to racism' and pooh pooh anything others say regarding management of her/their public Royal image and the frankly stupid things they're doing and mixed messages they are giving.

What appears oh so trivial details, are actually important signals of their attitude as public servants.

Meghan acts like a celebrity not a Royal. People dont want to be preached to by the Royals, that went out with Diana. People don't want another celebrity princess it didn't turn out well for Diana either or the popularity of the RF.

It is rather amazing to see so many self professed socialites falling over themselves to defray any criticism of Meghan and the Royals which I can only presume is due to her ethnic background, maybe that's why they assume others have a similar focus, because they themselves hold onto it so much.

GlitchStitch · 01/08/2019 18:41

Yes I think that when you have claimed that any criticism of M is down to racism then you have painted yourself into a bit of a corner where you have to defend everything no matter what.

I'm a republican and I cried at their wedding! I thought it was fab. That they've turned out to simply be just another pair of preachy hypocritical celebs is a massive disappointment. I do hold Harry mostly responsible though, Meghan is simply continuing in the way she is used to having been in Hollywood. He should be guiding her better.

You’d think you’d judge her attitude as a public servant on how she performs her public duties? Which is enthusiastically and well afaics.

But nooooo. Choice of Wimbledon watching clearly so much more important.

It’s honestly ridiculous. I’m astonished at how blind ppl are to their prejudices.

GlitchStitch · 01/08/2019 18:51

Oh, and the palace have reportedly refused to say whether Harry travelled in a private aircraft ... so it's probably safe to take that as a "yes"

Missed this bit, I hadn't considered that he might have been in one of the 100+ private jets! What an embarrassment.

As if people over the past what? 200 threads (about 185 are pulled by MN) have only mentioned or been concerned about wimbledon watching.

And again, what is the ethnic origin of every poster? Do you know?

So the Vogue cover (the cover style of which was plagarised) isn't worth engaging with?

LaurieMarlow · 01/08/2019 19:18

Well let’s recap.

She has been criticised on this site for ...

Bump touching

Looking at William funny (I swear to god this was on here)

Having staff quit (which turned out to be nothing to do with her)

Linking to a page of quotes on Instagram

Buying expensive things (though totally on a par with royal family norms)

Buying cheap things

Wearing a white dress

Inviting celebrities to her wedding

Turning up for an event organised for her by a friend

Meeting Piers Morgan once (she should have known he was a total dick apparently)

Harry’s cousins not coming to the wedding (that was her fault, somehow, I cant remember why)

Not inviting clearly v toxic family members to the wedding

Acting like a celeb (never really specified how)

Not providing photos of ppl entering and leaving the church for Archie’s christening

So let’s add watching SW to this long and distinguished list, hmm?

BertrandRussell · 01/08/2019 19:41

Has anyone explained the watching Serena faux pas yet?

Encyclo · 01/08/2019 19:49

Presumably watching Serena Williams exclusively is a clear sign that........nope, I’ve got nothing 🤷‍♀️

I can’t decide.

Is it because she’s her friend? That she’s American? Black?

Is it seen as very partisan against, um someone, more worthy of support. Can’t think who that would be.

Maybe she wasn’t even watching Serena. Who was she playing again?

BertrandRussell · 01/08/2019 19:54

“Yes I think that when you have claimed that any criticism of M is down to racism ”

I don’t think anyone has said that, have they?

Moknicker · 01/08/2019 20:04

@LaurieMarlow. Great list :). To add to that

  • She was attention seeking by not going out towards the end of her pregnancy (still scratching head on that one)
  • She holds the baby wrong
  • The dress she wore to the polo match was too loose
  • The dress she wore for something else was too tight
  • Not meeting Donald Trump

Actually scratching head on everything.

None of us know if MM is a nice person or not. We dont know her. But all these criticisms are great examples of implicit bias - some of it fuelled by racism, a dash of misogyny, a bit of jealousy and a huge lack of critical thinking skills.

derxa · 01/08/2019 20:06

Has anyone explained the watching Serena faux pas yet? I can't explain that one at all. Indeed if she hadn't gone to see Serena play I would have been astonished. Surely you support a friend?

ShirleyPhallus · 01/08/2019 20:08

@moknicker maybe also add:

  • she was attention seeking by not having photos directly after she’d given birth
  • she was attention seeking by closing her own car door
  • she’s possessive and needy by letting Harry carry the baby but keeping her arm near him
  • she’s too high maintenance
  • she should make more effort with her appearance (hair is back too often, or too scruffy with tendrils of hair)
  • she should have forgiven her dad and introduced the baby to him despite him selling several stories about her to the press
  • she’s too thin
  • she’s too fat after having given birth
  • she’s attention seeking by using her “mournful” eyes
LaurieMarlow · 01/08/2019 20:09

She holds the baby wrong

I forgot that total classic Grin

Also demanding privacy (when she’s enthusiastically taking on royal engagements and had a big ole public wedding)

Oh and not posing on the steps of the Portland hours after pushing a baby out of her fanjo. Which is ‘breaking protocol’ doncha know. Grin

BertrandRussell · 01/08/2019 20:14

“Perhaps if M had mingled with the plebs and browsed other matches, maybe supported and encouraged young upcoming British players?“

She was on maternity leave.......

LaurieMarlow · 01/08/2019 20:14

Why must you think everything is down to skin colour, is that all you see?

Lol Hmm

I'd guess it is because she is her personal friend.

And that’s a bad thing?!?!?! Confused

LaurieMarlow · 01/08/2019 20:15

Did anyone check if kate was supporting up and coming British talent when she was watching hot superstars like Federer and Nadal? Hmm.

derxa · 01/08/2019 20:19

To be fair, Kate did do this. And you think Federer is hot? Grin
