I’m very much a jeans and t shirt person so I don’t think it’s too age specific.

Numbersaremything · 27/07/2019 16:00

I dress like a cliched middle aged, middle class mum, right down to the Joules stripey shift dress.

GoGoGoGoGo · 27/07/2019 16:05

I have the mum uniform of skinny jeans converse and jumper, so I guess so. But equally I wear other stuff that would probably be considered younger, more the dresses. I’m 41.

RozHuntleysStump · 27/07/2019 16:18

I dress like a giant toddler. It’s all pinafore dresses and woodland animals with me. I’m 40.

honeylulu · 27/07/2019 16:19

Nope. I'm 45 and almost always wear black, rock chick style clothes. Husband says I always look like I'm off to a festival (which I take as a compliment!)

My work wear is smarter though still mainly black/ navy and very fitted. Most women my age in the office prefer a looser fit. I'm still slim and toned luckily so I think I can get away with it (just).

RozHuntleysStump · 27/07/2019 16:20

Just to add that I wear what I like and what’s comfortable. Age or size has never had a bearing. It really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks and I get lots of compliments on my outfits. Particularly my hand knits and my foxy jumper.

IncandescentShadow · 27/07/2019 16:22

"Dress you age"? Is that like the thinking that goes behind having a short hairstyle after 40, despite the fact we've had modern hair products for many decades now?

The only dress you age criteria I would bother about is wearing shorts or a mini skirt and a bikni top on the street (as opposed to the beach) and looking a bit trashy but not looking absolutely terrible if you're young enough.

bridgetreilly · 27/07/2019 16:23

I'm another who dresses like a 4yo. It's much more fun.

31RueCambon · 27/07/2019 16:24

Well i am 49 and i would not say my wardrobe is any different from the average 40 yesr olds. Definitely have not slipped into out of fashion jeans etc

It is not like you stop noticing what looks unfashionable. Your tastes change though.

Numbersaremything · 27/07/2019 16:24

Roz please tell me that it's a huge orange jumper with a fox face on the front.

BusterGonad · 27/07/2019 16:26

I'm not sure tbh, I don't want to look like s typical 40 y/o but I probably do! I'm having a wobble at the moment as I'm feeling a bit fat and old! Confused

RedSheep73 · 27/07/2019 16:28

I think by the time you get to a certain age, you've worked out what does and doesn't suit you. So if hotpants are in, you don't wear them just because they are fashionable like you might have at 15.

SinglePringle · 27/07/2019 16:43

What does ‘dressing your age’ mean? I’m 50 soon and wear baggy leather ‘track suit’ style trousers with 90’s style trainers / ‘tent’ dresses / oversized denim dungarees / brightly coloured Addidas tracksuit tops with boyfriend jeans / leather mini-skirts with army boots or trainers / bias cut slip dresses with vest tops and anything else that takes my fancy.

I own nothing from Joules, Biden, Toast or Phase 8.

Yet I am dressed and I am my age... 🤷🏻‍♀️

humblebumblebees · 27/07/2019 16:54

This is a very interesting question (to me anyway).

Recently I started trying to dress my age because I fell into the trap of feeling like I should (early 60s). It's not working out AT ALL as every time I try to wear something more 'age appropriate' I look such an ageing frump I change straight back into my skinny jeans and random top with flats / boots / heels depending on where I'm going. I honestly think dressing like I've always dressed takes years off compared to my sorry attempts to 'dress my age'. Having a big bust just adds to the matronly look I so despise.

So I've recently decided sod it, I'll dress how I like until I can no longer dress myself.

Pinktinker · 27/07/2019 16:56

I reckon so. I’m 29 and I mostly wear black jeans, T-shirt’s (usually striped, sometimes black/grey) and Birkenstock’s or Vans. I do sometimes wear dresses or skirts if the weather is nice but nothing short, just below knee length. Big fan of huge culottes too, DH not so much.

Weebitawks · 27/07/2019 16:59

I just left the house looking like a glittery big bird. So no, I don't really dress like a 31 years old.

JustDanceAddict · 27/07/2019 17:01

In the main, yes although I have a few ‘younger’ items. It’s mainly due to what suits my figure a lot of the time. I don’t want to look like an overgrown teen at pushing 50, but nor do I want to look like a granny!

I dress to suit myself. This mutton's gonna lamb.
If anyone doesn't like it, they can just look elsewhere. 💁‍♀️

Youngandfree · 27/07/2019 17:16

Today I wore coral shorts and a blouse and sandals...I’m 34. I just dress for me tbh

VictoriaBites · 27/07/2019 17:21

Grin @PicsInRed this mutton's gonna lamb. I'm so going to use that.
I'm 56, most recent clothes purchases are an oversized shirt from Whistles and a black jumpsuit from AllSaints. I don't know whether that's dressing my age or not. I also have long hair.

pandarific · 27/07/2019 17:21

I (try to) dress like Jess from New Girl so I suppose age appropriate or slightly younger.

pandarific · 27/07/2019 17:22

@RozHuntleysStump I like the cut of your jib!
GrinWhere do you get your woodland animals etc please?

problem1234567 · 27/07/2019 17:25

No, I (mid 30s) also go into shops that are too young for me. Eg New Look.

Teenagemaw · 27/07/2019 17:26

I do not dress my age... according to my sister i dress like a cbeebies presenter... im 43!
