I am nearly 60.
I wear jeans t shirts and a hoodie in winter

I just bought 1 dress which I have been wearing occassionly with flip flops.

All my clothes, shoes and toiletries can be packed in 30 seconds into a rucksack

I probably don’t dress my age as I’m 32 and still do crop tops and short shorts and minidresses etc (albeit not at the same time!) but on the other hand I also don’t really do jeans or very casual, prefer smarter and more tailored / fitted stuff.

DeadButDelicious · 28/07/2019 09:52

I go for a look which I call Dead But Delicious. Wink

I'm 37. I wear almost exclusively black. A lot of mesh and chiffon. I love pvc and big fluffy cardigans and gigantic platform boots (though I do tend to live in leggings and over sized black jersey tops in summer). I have a fondness for bat and skeleton themed jewellery. I wear far too much makeup and have long black dreaded hair. Mostly I want to to look like some kind of large dishevelled bat.

So no, I don't dress my age. Grin

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 28/07/2019 09:57

I had to change to dresses (mostly colourful patterned White Stuff, Fat Face and some Laura Ashley) when my waist thickened a couple of years ago (am peri-menopausal at aged 47).

I can't wear tight waistbands anymore (so uncomfortable) and wear anything from a size 14 to 18 depending on fit as I have G cup breasts.

However, a lot of my dresses do expose my cleavage (which is thankfully still firm) so perhaps I don't wholly dress 'appropriately' for my age despite being forced to change my style (which was previously an all black mix of jeans, leather trousers, tight tops and t-shirts before middle-age spread hit).

BusterGonad · 29/07/2019 13:39

@alldownhillat40 well, I don't know, I suppose what I really mean is, I hope I'm not turning into my mother as I wouldn't want too. Not all mothers, just mine!

EmeraldShamrock · 29/07/2019 13:48

No. I dress younger I am 39, I like jeggings, boots, nice tops.
I love new look, can't afford river island but sometimes grab a bargain from their teen age group clothing.

MinesaPinot · 29/07/2019 14:19

Probably not. I like a lot of Cos and Zara and head there first usually, plus a few independents near me. Weekends I've usually got my skinnies, t-shirt and Converse on. There are some shops that I don't go into, more because I don't like the styling (Phase 8, Hobbs, LK Bennett) - I always think they are a bit Mother of the Bride

I pay no heed to dressing for your age, or having hair colour/length for your age. Who gets to determine these things? I've just been to the H & M sale and bought leopard print shorts for my holidays (only to be worn round the pool mind you).

I'm 56 BTW

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 29/07/2019 14:21

No idea. I dress as I please — with the odd concession to a dress code where I feel it's warranted.

I'm 52. What would 'dressing my age' entail? Confused

bloodywhitecat · 29/07/2019 14:35

My usual uniform is jeans, tee shirt and Converse/Birkenstock/Chelsea boot, not sure how old that make me.

TwistedStrawberry · 29/07/2019 14:40

I've never really been sure how to 'dress my age'! I just wear things I like. I shop in the same shops as my 16 yo daughter.

Theimpossiblegirl · 29/07/2019 14:44

I am my age and I wear things I like, so yes.

Similarly, I have a body, I'm going to the beach, therefore I have a beach body.

I don't know who decides the rules but we don't need to follow them.

flumposie · 29/07/2019 14:59

I honestly don't know . I'm 48 and buy most of my clothes from T K Maxx; Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, Next and a few things from Top Shop, River Island, New Look etc. I just wear what I like the look ofGrin

clottedcreamoverjam · 29/07/2019 15:12

More than my age I dress my weight 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have put on a lot of weight so I wear comfortable stuff, when I was thinner I made more effort 😔

dollydaydream114 · 29/07/2019 15:24

It's honestly not something I really think about that much and these days, I don't think 'age-appropriate' dressing is as clear-cut as it maybe once was. Things like jeans, t-shirts, Converse etc are pretty ageless really.

I'm working from home today and I'm in 'boyfriend' jeans, flip-flops, and a t-shirt with line from a film I like on it. Tomorrow I'm in the office and I'll probably wear a black slouchy jersey dress over leggings and leopard-print flats or possibly a long-line top over cropped black skinnies and black flatform trainers. I'm 43 and that all feels pretty normal to me.

I do have one friend who dresses in a way that I think makes her look far, far older than she is - but it's what she likes, so all power to her.

littlepaddypaws · 29/07/2019 15:30

i'm never going to wear beige or let my hair go white, i'm rocking up in blue hair, band t.shirt, skinny jeans and dms to my own funeral booked for when i'm about 85 [hopefully]Grin it will horrify the dggc [maybe, i hope so]

QuaterMiss · 29/07/2019 16:01

When you are 85 littlepaddypaws you will, one hopes, be just as keen on continuing your life as you are now.

My mother is nearer to 90. We were shopping in Toast a couple of weeks ago and she dismissed at least half of their stock as far too dowdy for her. She has been well dressed all her life - so although we have different tastes I’d be delighted if people thought I was anywhere near as stylish as she is.

Willow2017 · 29/07/2019 16:24

NO idea and couldnt care less.
I am 50 + and will wear what I like. BTW who decided whats 'age appropriate' and what the hell is it??

Skinny jeans, joggers, harem pants, shorts, tshirts, printed t shirts, hoodies, funky cardis, baseball boots, long winter boots, lace up boots, sometimes black sometimes very colourful depending on what I like at the time. I have HP pjs, tshirts and socks and dont give 2.
Havent worn a dress or a skirt apart from those floaty ones over beachwear on holiday, in years Shock
My hair is touching my bum and I dye it when I feel like it. If anyone was daft enough to tell me I should have it cut they can do one.
