To be terrified I'm too old for a baby

I'm now 35 and don't have a child, although would absolutely love one. I've got a boyfriend and in the near future we would love to start trying for a baby.

Because of my age I'm a bit nervous about whether we will be able to conceive quickly. Please tell me, if you were over 35 when you had a baby and how long did it take to conceive? Thanks Smile

I was 41 and it took about 2 months to conceive.

AragonsGirl · 26/07/2019 21:24

Had my first at 34, took 2 months to conceive. Was 37 when I had my second and again took me 2 months to conceive

Skinsosoftandblemishfree · 26/07/2019 21:25

I was 36 and two months old, took two months.

Echobelly · 26/07/2019 21:29

Try not to worry about the 35 thing - I've heard that came from ancient research (like, literally 300 years) that suggested women's fertility dropped off then www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24128176 . It's so long ago that women were not as well nourished and had less regular periods, but it's still being used to scare women about their fertility

Grumpos · 26/07/2019 21:29

36 conceived the first month we really tried - as in timing around ovulation week and doing it a good few times in that week.

2nd time 38 conceived the only time we had unprotected sex in months so you could say we’re pretty compatible.

Advanced age does have some impact but not as much as the media would have you believe. Go for it! Good luck

If I was in your position I would go for private fertility tests (both of you) for about £500, start taking folic acid and trying to get into optimum health. I would also start tracking my cycles using OPK sticks and apps.

I had my first at 32 (first month, honeymoon baby) and I’m currently pregnant with second due very soon (nearly 36) but this one has taken a year and 2 mc. An awful experience.

I know people who are our age going through IVF. I know people who conceived at 40 easily. I know many who have had mc. It’s irrelevant until you start trying yourself.

Had a niece that was 45. Had a healthy girl.

ArgyMargy · 26/07/2019 21:36

YABU to use the word "terrified". Don't be so daft.

BabyofMine · 26/07/2019 21:39

I was 34 when I conceived. Was it pregnant within six weeks of coming off the pill. 35 when I gave birth. I do think it would have been easier on my body if I’d been younger, though.

TheBigFatMermaid · 26/07/2019 21:39

I was 37 when I fell preg with DD2. I had DD two weeks before my 38th birthday.

I then fell pregnant with DS shortly after, and gave birth when I was 39 years and two days old.

TowerRavenSeven · 26/07/2019 21:43

I married at 36, got pregnant 4 months later but then miscarried at about 10 weeks. They told us to wait a few months but we waited only three weeks and I conceived and carried to term. He’s now almost 18 :)

bellinisurge · 26/07/2019 21:44

Had my only at 41. Took me 5 weeks to get pregnant. Healthy baby now 12.

GinUnicorn · 26/07/2019 21:45

Was 37 taking precautions and had a happy accident. I hope the 2nd will be as easy.

Boobahs · 26/07/2019 21:47

I was 37 when I conceived DS1, 38 when he arrived.
40 on conceiving DS2, 41 when he was born.
Took us 8 months both times.

Mamabear12 · 26/07/2019 21:48

36 and pregnant w my third. It took my 4 months, but we only dtd once each month (co sleep w other dc kills sex life). My sister conceived first month age 37 and two months at 39. I think some people have fertility challenges even when young. SIL took 4 years to conceive only dc at age 38.

WoofWoofMooWoof · 26/07/2019 21:51

I was 37, had my coil removed (during my period), we managed to dtd once that month and I was pregnant with twins before my next period.

MrsXx4 · 26/07/2019 21:51

No way are you too old! Don’t panic! I’m planning on trying at 36.

Topseyt · 26/07/2019 22:00

I was just short of my 36th birthday when I gave birth to DD3, who is now 17.

She took me 2 cycles to conceive

wafflethewonderdog · 26/07/2019 22:07

First at 37, 2nd at 39 - both first month of trying after 20 years on the pill. Just used a period tracking app.

problembottom · 26/07/2019 22:10

I conceived the first time I tried at 35. My mum had me when she was 42, again it happened straight away. Best of luck!

BlueSuffragette · 26/07/2019 22:15

36 and 37, couple of months to conceive both. Good luck.

boosterrooster · 26/07/2019 22:18

1st pregnancy: 34, first ever attempt at trying but sadly ended in a miscarriage :-(

2nd pregnancy. Just turned 35, 3 months/cycles trying

3rd pregnancy: 36, got pregnant straight away

We've been very lucky in that the pregnancies happened quickly.

I was conscious of my age too and eager to get pregnant ASAP so I took prenatal vitamins, did acupuncture after the M/C, used clear blue ovulation kits to help pinpoint ovulation and pre seed gel to help boost our chances. Who knows if they truly played a part but no harm in trying

MondeoFan · 26/07/2019 22:20

First DD age 32 fell first go
Second DD age 42 fell first go

wigglybluelines · 26/07/2019 22:23

Purpletigers · 26/07/2019 22:23
